Figuratively speaking - he decided he wasn't going to stand for a saddle fitting and the wind was blowing super bad. He's got such issues with bad weather, so, I can't blame him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have to stand when asked.

So he ran off and when he tried to come back to me and my trainer we ignored him and made him keep running. Finally, he stopped about 20 feet from me and just had this sad pathetic look on his face. I told him to 'come' and he trotted up to me and put his head down to my stomach and just stood there.

I told him he was forgiven and he stood for the rest of the session. :) SADLY - the full bar saddle didn't work for him. :( His back is too long for a regular saddle - so I will definitely have to go with a draft horse western saddle because of his long back.

Fit his withers just fine, but it slid back to a position that was NOT going to be good.

I'm not going western, but now that I have my niece living with me, she wants something more secure for her (than his English saddle).

So, the saddle hunt is on... again.

ugh.

Saddle hunts are such a pain! Especially for the drafty boys. My haflinger is the exact opposite problem - wide but short. Too long of a back actually sounds like a blessing right now! LOL.

Poor pony, but seems he learned his lesson.

Would a breastcollar fix that part? Or is it just a problem of scale?

The weather today is crazy... I'm afraid we may be saying goodbye to summer... always too short.

Your poor boy!!! Lol. At first I was like, when did Cheval get a pony! And then I realized I was a dork. I have a friend who has Percherons and she has the hardest time fitting stuff to them. . which of course makes sense! Good luck finding the perfect saddle!

Aww, Solon is such a sweetheart and you two have quite the bond. ;) That is really nice of you to get a saddle for your niece, good luck on your hunt for one!

Yeah, it seems like it is a scale issue. I could get a super huge seat, which seems to equal more length, but then there would be the issue of too much room in the seat.

I know the draft horse saddles are longer, I was just really hoping this one would work.

They have some pretty good deals on eBay for draft saddles. I just need to contact them and see what their return policy is in case it doesn't fit.

Yeah, he is my warpony - so pony for short!

You be nice to that precious pony :p I'm sure he wasn't misbehaving - you must have just imagined it!

Wish I could have seen a pony the size of Solon acting in such a manner! Hope that you find a saddle soon. My new English saddle is bridging on Arrow, after I thought it fit, but the angles suit him so perfectly that I'd going to spend the bucks to get it reflocked, because I'm pretty sure that that is the problem.

ETA...just because I can!!!!!!!!

XOXO, for the big guy too. Nice to see you!

The TexTan flex tree is the best investment I ever made. Fits my Rose like a dream. Expensive but worth it!

I'm gonna try one of those Frontier Equestrian eBay saddles and see how it goes. They are a really good price. Maybe they will fit. I don't think I'd ever use it but for friends/family who won't ride bareback or English, it would be nice to have.

And just where have you been missy!!! How the heck are things going down your way? Did you ever get your drafty?

You need to make a thread to catch us all up!!!

If the saddle doesn't work, I know some people with drafts that have had good luck with custom western saddles; they were also very inexpensive-surprising so. I hopped on their perchie mare and the saddle was very comfortable and I'm not usually crazy about the feel of a western saddle.

Be happy to help if you need.
