I don't get to drive Bull as often as I'd like because I'm usually the only one out at the barn. I like to have a second pair of hands around when putting to, because he's still learning to stand nicely.

But today, my dad came out and helped me get Bull hitched and off we went. It was the first time I've given my dad a carriage ride even though I've been driving for about two years now.

Bull was great, forward and very supple in his turns. He got a good workout! The best thing... my dad brought his camera!

The last picture is right after he rolled. So much for a clean white horse  It's ok- he deserved a good roll, lol!

Sounds fun!

My Haflinger is trained to drive (was a professional carriage horse in another life ... all of three years ago) so he knows the ropes already. My barn owner asked me if I had a harness for him because they'd let me use their cart.

Since my trail riding life seems to be non-existant, I've actually been thinking about buying a harness, and hitching him up for a drive. I learned how to drive a saddlebred mare, and it'd be kind of fun to have some alternative to just riding around the barn.

That carriage is beautiful, and Bull is just so handsome.....really makes a stunning picture! I've always wished I could get a nice driving horse.....some day maybe I will be able to, I think I would enjoy that more than riding. I drove a friend's horse once, and man was I ever hooked, I loved it.

Driving is so much fun! I've gotten to a few times with friends' horses, and even was able to work with a team of drafts belonging to a friend of mine at the county fair years ago. I actually got to drive the team and put up hay the old fashioned way! I miss it!

Glad Bull did so well, and your dad was able to take pics for you. Bull looks fabulous in harness!

Awesome! I'm jealous! That seems like so much fun. One day I'll have to save up and get a carriage like that. That would be so neat!
I'm glad Bull did so well. He is a stunning horse!

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone!

Bull really loves to drive, it is nice to have something different to do with him. I can switch up his exercise routine from riding and ground work. Plus, I can load the carriage down with extra weight (i.e.- friends and family, lol!) to make him work harder, or if it's just me we can have an easy drive.

I didn't think I'd like driving as much as I have come to like it when I started working at my current job (at a carriage farm). But now I'm hooked :p It is a nice way to share your love of horses with non-horse people. Most people will get in a carriage, but not everyone wants to get in the saddle.

Anyone that wants to come down to Florida, I'd love to show you how to harness up and drive!
