Today Miatapony and myself when horse shopping. Miata is looking for a horse and we came across this gelding that was advertised on craigslist.
He's a very pretty gelding with lots of talent but has a few flaws that are questionable.

When we first saw him in his stall, he looked awesome. The owner took him out and lunged him out. I thought I noticed something but continued to tape the horses movements while Miata was talking to the wife.
Now comes the saddle and bridle. This gelding shy's away from the saddle blanket, but that's okay, not too bad. Now comes the show!!!
The bridle: The owner puts the bridle on this gelding and the gelding goes bonkers running, bucking, a real rodeo show LOL. (head shy in my opinion) The owner changes out the bridles and puts a broken mouth 8" shank in with curb chain. The horse still twitches with his ears and jar but responses to this bit better than the snaffle.
The owner rides this gelding around quite a few spins and then Miata says she wants to try the gelding out.
Miata steps up to the plate and boards the stout little choochoo that could. This gelding buckled down and did his thing like he should have. Miata made him look a lot better than what the owner could. WAY TO GO GIRL!!!
With all that was said and done, I still see this horse off and with the above stated issues, this gelding would not fit the bill for miata and her family. He would be great for miata but not her kids.

We spent a few hours at these peoples house talking, chatting, talking, laughing and just having a great time. I think we made some new friends today.
We (miata) may not buy their gelding but we all learned something from each other today, that we all know each other in some way.

Well, enough typing. Here is a youtube video of the horse under saddle with miatapony.

Looks decent riding-wise with Miata - not my kind but okay. Out of curiousity, did he seem hard mouthed? It doesn't look like he responded nice with the shank with the backing.

He looks like he's put together nicely though. Would had loved to see how he was with the owners! :)

Not a kid safe horse but he did not look bad with Miata riding. Good luck on the horse hunt.

i was in a 17-18 inch Ropers saddle and way off i thought but Gaited said i looked good. the stirups were to short for me but i didnt complaine. He felt off on the front end and i really cant afford another off . but he is trained. he needs work but i think Gaited is right Ill have to pass on him. as for the hard mouthed thing i no the owner just wanted that bit. This horse blew when he tried to pull the headstall over the ear and then adjust the curb strap that was first leather. Thank you Gaited for going and taking this Video for me .

just a question but what did you mean not your kind of riding Annie&Dixie ? im just asking?

miatapony,

You are a great rider and I laugh at myself because at first I thought you were a preteen or early teen girl. I realize now you are married with children and I was way off base.

You look really good on him and make him look good but it doesn't sound like he is what you are looking for right now and he does seem off even though the owner was trying to say it was the depth of the dirt in some parts of the roundpen.

Good luck with your search and I'm sure you will find a great horse that will fit your needs and your childrens' too.

I was going to post the video of the owner riding but I don't think that would be a good idea. He's a really nice guy and I would like to keep them on my good side LOL!
Please don't get me wrong. The owner is a very good rider but this gelding looked better with Miatapony riding.
For Miata's just hopping up and riding this horse, she had him doing things that the owner did not know he could do.

Good job girl:)

Great job as always ridning Miatia. :)

I am ALWAYS on the look out for ANY off issues with horses. I have had my share of that.

This horse did seem a bit off, but I couldn't quite pin piont where? Would have liked to see him in a trot, but I know Miata doesn't like the bumpy trot ride... ;) Pretty horse though. :)

He certainly is a cute gelding, doesn't sound like the best kids horse with the ear shy issue though. Hope you find a horse that better suits your needs:) Oh wait, she's sitting in a pasture in Spokane! ;)
