You know... I just never get tired of this stuff.

Beautiful launch after several scrubs. Word is that the lightning moved in just a few minutes after the launch. Just a few more minutes and they would've had to scrub again.

Just had separation of the external tank. They're on their way to the space station. Adding another section built by Japan.

Mission STS-127

Cool beans. :happydance:

I still cringe every time they say "Go with throttle-up..." and I always like it a lot better after those solid boosters go bye-bye.

Yeah - me too. Imagine being the one who has to say it.

There's just something very very dangerous about strapping that much rocket fuel on your back and then setting fire to it. It's not a job for the timid. Any of it.

Heck... I don't even want to ride carnival rides on the first day of the carnival. :)

What I wouldn't do to get a ride on one of those......

I remember when the Challenger (is that the right name?) exploded. Horrible. I still have that feeling of dread watching the shuttle lift off.

Ifn' you folks can ever make the trip to watch a liftoff, I highly reccomend it! We endured the ultimate roadtrip from hell about ten years ago to watch a night launch. It was truly magnificent! Made the trip worthwhile. Cape Canaveral is cool too! Cheap by Florida tourist standards & educational too!

I was teaching a 5th grd class that day. The entire school stopped (small rural) and the classes watched the news in the library. Even the kids were silent.

It really is a site to see in person. Magnificent is the word. Pretty inspiring too.

We went to Kennedy Space Center and it was neat, even when there wasn't a launch.

I haven't actually been that much of a traveler. Hubby has... and Ragnar has... moreso than me. :)

I remember when the Challenger (is that the right name?) exploded. Horrible. I still have that feeling of dread watching the shuttle lift off. I was in 11th grade american history, our teacher's wife was the librarian so they had brought the tv into the class so we could watch it, and we watched it blow up in real time kind of startling for a bunch of 16-17 year olds.....Kevin

I was on mess duty as a boot seaman on the CGC Polar Sea. I was cleaning Masterchief Smith's stateroom when the announcement came over the 1MC that we should report to the mess deck to see important news about the Shuttle, that it had exploded just after liftoff.

Ships work pretty much stopped for the day. We were glued to the TV on the mess deck.
