View Full Version : Humane Pulling Combs?

Hi,

Well, it's been a while since we pulled Billy's mane properly, with a pulling comb and although he didn't seem to be obviously upset by this experience, I'd rather use one of those humane ones if at all possible... and he needs it doing again :)

I've heard of the solo comb but really know nothing about it, I'd ideally like something that is easy to use and gives a ''pulled look'' to him, he really does look great when it's freshly done :)

As for price, I'm not too fussed, nothing too overly ginormously expensive but anything really. It would be brilliant if I could order it from a UK site!(this is so much easier postage wise for me) but if not possible oh well!

Please post all you know :) However helpful/useless it may seem, the more I know the better :)

I always use one of those razor comb things. It looks just as good!

quest: razor combs? what are they?

iloveponcho: Great! How exactly do they work? Are they easy to use - I am no hairdresser xD

you basically use it the same way you would a regular pulling comb. hold the main at the bottom, comb up, and cut (if i didn't explain it good there are directions for it on the package, with pictures, and most likely the description on a web site.)

JTM, it may take a while for Billy to dissociate going near his mane and doing the starter pulling actions with all the discomfort. My mate Geo's pony Jack uses a solocomb and he was an absolute *rse the whole time, and honestly, we only used the solo comb.
Don't do the back-brushing w/ the solo comb because that can jam the razor, use a normal mane comb for that then cut with the solo comb.

Found this (http://www.robinsons-uk.com/products/ProductList.asp?topGroupCode=004&parentGroupCode=0402&groupCode=04205&page=2#sku.47201) on Robinsons UK...not quite sure if it's the same but it does mention a blade.
I think this (http://www.toptackequestrian.co.uk/solo-comb-mark-iii-458-p.asp) is what Geo has...

And there's always eBay!

Its the only item I use also.
I wont pull the mane. Heck, it hurts enough when I do my eyebrows or chin...LOL, I just cant bring myself to pull a horses mane.

thanks everyone :)
yep, he's fine with pulling - had it done once, by my BO.. he didn't flinch - but as Vick said - it hurts like **** doing my eyebrows, poor horseh! I'm going to pick up a solo comb I have decided, and do it that way :)
Thanks everybody! :p
