I was wondering what you all use for joint pain. Icy Hot and other OTC remedies don't so much for me unless they have Camphor oil in them. Menthol does very little by itself. I have a Tart Cherry drink that I like for the anti-oxidants..
I don't want to use prescription drugs, too many side effects (ie - heart attacks etc)
Also wondering what time of the year is worse for you - summer or winter? Does exercise help or make it worse? I get stoved up...and the more I move the better I get. Anyone have joint pain that comes and goes mysteriously?
Thanks!!

I used to. My hands/fingers would ache and be stiff, especially in the winter. After I was diagnosed with diabetes, I stopped eating sugar. My hands stopped hurting. My aunt, who has RA, told me that sugar is terrible on arthritis. Now, I'm not saying that if you stop eating sugar your arthritis will go away. Mine was mild and only in the colder months, but I have seen a difference.
As for when it hurt, I would usually take ibuprofen.

Me too.....about the only thing that helps me is ibuprofen, but I have to take it with food or else it really hurts my stomach. And I usually end up having to take a prescription-strength dose of it (3 to 4 pills).
This summer has been really bad for me too for some reason, altho I was also being treated for Lyme disease too. But my joints got so painful, I could hardly move some days. Ibuprofen helps me some.

I don't think Ibuprofin does much either unless its in Aleve. That is interesting about the Diabetic part. I am type II Diabetic, no one has ever said that sugar would make you hurt, but I suppose it could. I have been trying to eat healthier lately and to drink more water.
Remali, you should try my cherry drink!!!!!!

I started taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin daily about 3-4 yrs ago and haven't had pain since. I still get stiff in some joints, hands especially, but my neck used to have a sharp pain all the time. Dr. told me it was arthritis and gave me prescription pills. They helped but I didn't like the warnings and possible long term damage from the cure itself! It took about 3 weeks before I started noticeing the difference and from there it just got better.

Miracle Whip- check with your doctor and see if you can take oral HA. Because of your type II diabetes, glucosamine would not be a good optiion for you.
Cowgirlup- HA may be a great thing for you to try as well. Added to the glucosamine and chondroitin you're already taking, it may take that stiffness out.
HA helps replenish the synovial fluid, which lubricates the joints.

Thanks! but what is HA? I thought that the glucosamin/chondroitin did promote synovial fluid in the joints. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong :p, all I know is it took the pain away.

Hyaluronic acid helps lubricate the synovial fluid in the joint.

Glucosamine can help with synovial fluid, but not as well as HA. Both glucosamine and chondroitin help maintain and possibly improve joint cartilage.

I can believe the sugar thing. One of my partners at work had told me he was having some major issues with his knees and back, so when he went to Dr, the Dr asked him all about what he ate, drank etc etc... He was drinking coffee in the AM with 2 packs of Equal (or one of those many substitues) and the Dr said to stop it. He stopped using any type of sugar and sugar substitues and he has been pain free sense. So take that for what it's worth, but he believes that's why.

I believe in gluco/condroitin as well, although I am not very good at being consistent taking it.
The quickest relief which was unbelievable....Mexico! Man, after two days in the tropics I felt 100%. Something about the climate, maybe it was the pina coladas?
