Well, due to our weather, I wasn't able to work Dallas at all this week. :(

I ended up taking him to the arena a couple hours early and working him there just before the events. OMG!!!!! I can not beleive how soft he is again!! He was wonderful!!! And all I had to do was say Whoa! and he stopped..... almost lost me one time since I was not expecting the brakes to work so well... LOL

During the events he was so good. No bucking this week. We didn't win anything, but that is OK. We are taking things one step at a time. The meer fact that I am loping him in some of the patterns is a HUGE accomplishment!

Anyway.... here is the video from the gymkhana last night!

Wow, he's really coming along!:) You guys did great! I love him in purple.xD

Random question: how far apart are the poles supposed to be in pole bending? I was messing around with Beauty and doing some pole bending the other day (just trotting and using cones:rolleyes:) but I wasn't sure how far apart to put them so I just guessed.

LOL... see Miata... I can "run" the barrels when I'm not broken... LOL I don't go fast on Dallas yet, since I want him to enjoy it and not get sour like some of the horses I have seen.

I can run on Missy. She can do the patterns, all I have to do is hold on... LOL

I am back to practicing, so you need to get your butt back here for another gymkhana!! I'm ready to race ya!!! hehehehehe

Dakota... I "think" the poles are placed at least 12 feet apart, but I could be wrong. It might be 14 or 15 feet??

Vicki, I have him soften again.... finally. Now it doesn't take much to get him to respond. :) And I was NOT wearing spurs!! :)

This other gymkhana with the covered arena is on Friday nights through August 28th, then they stop.

Ah, that looks like so much fun. I went to a few gymkhanna's here last fall and had a great time. But the one here is so looooong and I always got too tired to stay till the end, lol. Wish it was closer so I could bring the horses out and ride too!

Hey Dakota, have you tried loading Beauty into the 2 horse trailer lately? Do you still have it? I hate to see you sit at home, you deserve to show...

they should be IF they are regulation distance .. : ) but some areanas aren't big enough for them to be that far apart

Pole Bending
A timed event in which the speed and agility of the horse are tested as horse and rider weave through a course of six poles spaced 21 feet apart, twice circling end poles before turning and racing to the finish line. The pattern must be followed exactly. A five-second penalty is added for each pole knocked down

POLE BENDING RULES

1.Each contestant will begin from the timer line and run straight up to the top pole. The pattern is to be run with 6 poles. Each pole is to be 21 feet apart, and the first pole is to be 21 feet from the timer line. Poles shall be set on top of the ground, 6 feet in height, with no base more than 14 inches in diameter (rubber bases are recommended) .A horse may start either to the right or left of the first pole and then run the remainder of the pattern accordingly.
