OK, here is the rundown of my dealings with this woman. :(She is very broke (not a crime) and she has 6 horses on her place. She recently got rid of 2 (she had 8) and they were emaciated to the point of starvation.:mad::mad:They were given away on craigslist.
She gave me the old 'I rescued them that way' story, but she had had them awhile. :nono:
Oh, and all the horses are STUNTED. And she has a ugly grade STALLION no one can touch, that may have bred her BLM mare that no one can touch. Making our own wild horse band, are we?????

So I trimmed most of them (2 of the horses are too wild to touch, with hellaciously long toes, and Im sure pathology) the best I could with as bad as their feet were, and gave here my recommendations:

1. free choice hay- I told her these horses were emaciated, and she needed to give them all the grass they could eat. She made excuses, and Im sure didnt listen to me. She kept saying how she couldnt afford it. THEN DONT HAVE 8 HORSES!!! :eek:And dont 'rescue' horses if you cant afford them!

2. Keep on a consistent trimming schedule. I went out twice, and the third time I showed up, she wouldnt answer the door, then her husband answered the phone and told me they couldnt afford to trim them. ARG. Thanks for telling me.

She told me when I was out trimming, and I told her the horses were thin, that the ASPCA had already been out there 2 times!!!!:eek::eek:

AND NOW THE KICKER!!!
She just called me, after cancelling her trim 3 weeks ago to tell me the little mare of hers is SICK. Sounds like she is colicking to me. I told her to call the vet. She wanted ME to come out to her place and bring her banamine and tell her what was wrong with her.
Ummmmmm- NOT A VET. Sorry. I told her to call the vet and kept telling her that. Finally I think it sunk in, and she said the vet (my vet) is going out there at 4. I feel bad that they arent going to get paid. She is a flake and Im sick with this. I think I should email the director at the animal regulation office. UGH.
I just dont get how she can have the cojones to call me for advice! After she knows that I know shes a hoarder!:(
I sure hope that poor little stunted mare doesnt die.

sounds like a person who doesnt need that many horses. I hope they start to get the proper care they need... all of that can be very hard to watch

What did the ASPCA do? If they are that bad, you'd think they woud be trying to do something more aggressive to save those horses. Especially if they've been out twice.

Honestly I think you should stop trying to reason with her since she is so ridiculous, and call in the big guns. Contact the local humane society, horse rescues, whoever deals with cruelty investigations and turn her in. Your a witness to their neglect and with your testimony they could easily get custody and help them out.

Although I must admit I think they would probably euthanize the wild stallion and BLM mare if they are as feral as you say. But is that worse than starving to death and being in pain from their hooves, or freezing to death as it gets colder?

Someone needs to act quickly because its only a matter of time before hay becomes scarce and the temperature plummets.

That's terrible. I do not understand why people have a gazillion horses if they can't even afford to get two trimmed. I would call ASPCA and make another complaint.
