I am a fairly reluctant participant in Facebook, but some have managed to find me anyway ;)

I don't post on it a lot, and I'm fairly careful about what I do post, because it's not anonymous and there are mixed groups who may see it... family, friends, co-workers and friends of friends, but as a back up plan for keeping in touch with folk, it's good. :)

I don't play any of the games and apps though... I don't need any more ways to spend even more time on the 'puter.... I need less! :D

I'd like to, Horseless. You're a terrific guy, and bless you for riding for MS. However, I use my Facebook for occasional correspondence with business associates. It's not official correspondence, but I would like my Facebook Wall and friends list to be slightly more reflective of my work life.

I hope I don't offend you or anyone. You are the greatest - est - est group ever, and I do have a couple of Facebook friends from the forum, but I'd like to keep my Facebook about the way I have it.

Regarding a Baywind group... It's OK I guess.... as an unofficial thing, you wouldn't even really NEED permission.

Not sure what hubby will say. Like JackieB said very well... we've been reluctant to mix facebook with forum, because it's a mixing of groups that are very different. I have accepted friend requests, but I've been a little nervous about it. It's real ID of course... and contains info that employers, family, and other mixed groups of contacts may see. Already, I have friends who are at varied levels of 'intimacy" for lack of a better word, on facebook so now have to be careful about what kind of personal information is shared there. Much different than when it is just family, or just casual friends, or just work.

There is some safety in anonymity on forums. And that has value that once lost on the internet, cannot be regained. Beyond risks of identity theft, personal info can be used by friend and foe alike, and employers and potential employers even... who may fall into either category.

So I'm of very mixed feeling about facebook right now. It's a thrashing cat that is bound to get out of the bag, and that means everyone should be careful.

I think that WB has a very good point...I'm not super revealing of my personal info on my facebook but those who are should be careful. I would not friend people from any other forum. I honestly feel that this forum is not like the others and it is the only reason I feel comfortable doing so. Although sometimes being too comfortable is what gets us in trouble right?

I made the group private so only the people who are in the group can see all the members. Obviously, anyone who is not comfortable joining is NOT going to offend me.

I pmed the WBs for permission and her response here on this thread is exactly what I got from her. If Wboy writes me back and says I do NOT have permission...even if I don't NEED it, I don't want to step on toes...I will delete the group.

We'll keep mulling it over... it's a good thing that people feel close friendships here.

It's just also true that not everyone may want or share the same level of personal info. The kids should be careful, but heck... all of us should be careful.

I suppose it's not all that hard for a determined person to find out any of our personal info, as much as is shared in conversations here. But I don't want to make it so easy that someone who gets a bug in their bonnet can easily end up at one of our doorsteps unwanted. Think of the f_gly posse and how easily they've gone off half cocked and ended up actually going to people's homes, and/or contacting authorities about either horses or children, and some perceived 'mistreatment'. And that's just the ones for whom it's not really even personal. Could I defend that against myself? You bet. Would I wish it on anyone else? No... I would not.

It's just a world best walked into with eyes wide open, is all.

I'd also just like to point out that when someone friends you on facebook you can limit what they see on your profile..including all of your personal information. Not everyone knows this and I figured I'd throw it out there. :)

I don't really even have time to spend a lot of time on facebook. I don't WANT to have conversations with these people both there and here, I'd rather have them here. They're better formatted here, they're more easily kept track of here, and it's not mixed in with a bunch of other stuff that half my friends don't care about... FWIW...

It is with some trepidation that I have mixed groups of friends on my facebook. There are people that have looked me up from ten years ago and while I don't have anything to hide about myself I don't necessarily want my college-frat-boy-boyfriend from 1999 regaling my relatives and current co-workers with tales of my youthful exploits.:innocent: It was a little nerve wracking for me at first that I have no control over what others post on my wall for all to see. I'm normally a very private person. So far everyone has behaived themselves though, I think most are in the same boat I am.

You can delete wall posts and if you go under settings and privacy you can actually prevent certain people from posting on your wall, or viewing your profile or ANYTHING that has to do with you in General! Just thought I'd tell you incase you didn't know. :) But I totally understand what you mean by that... my friends do not behave themselves. Hahaha

Regarding Facebook, I'm just as new to it as WBay, and have been pretty selective at who I've befriended so far. Just family, and fairly close friends.

This morning I got a request from an acquaintance from High School. We weren't even close friends, just the 'eat lunch together' variety, never associated outside of school. I don't feel a driving need to reconnect with the long ago past.

I love facebook and even though there are SOME ppl I wouldn't really want to hear from again I have had the opportunity to connect with alot of my childhood friends that I grew up with and that has been fabulous! Like some of ya'll I was a bit nervous about it at first especially re-meeting ppl from that long ago cause I just don't remember alot of that time in my life. (anyone else have that problem?) I always thought that was because I don't live in the past but always looking forward but most likely just a bad memory! lol

Anyway after I figured out kinda what I was doing on Facebook I really like it! And anyone that hasn't tried the game Farm Town BEWARE!
