So i'm way confused on which side everyone thinks a nose ring should be on. Some people say left means lesbian but some people say right means the same thing  If you have one which side is yours on? What side do you think is correct?

Gosh I dunno! I guess look at where other people have there nose rings and if you know whether or not they are straight you got your answer! The person at the shop might be able let you know which side to do it on too

Well, you could not do it at all, and no one will wonder either way :innocent::D

Haha your no fun :p
I thought if I ever got one, I would get one in a little booger shape and color. Real small.
Ya know how if someone has something on their nose that shouldn't be there, you can't help but start brushing at your own... like checking? Or people try to give the other one a hint?
Anyway, I'm told in Sturgis and Denver by piercers that the right is always "wrong" and the left is always "right." That may be regional, not sure. Or what if someone changes their mind, like seems to happen anymore?

I don't know but my first thought was left. It seems that is what side most people I see have it on.

There is no 'gay' side ;).
There was an article about this on BME at some in the past because I remember reading it while digging through archives.
...It was either on BME or another body mod forum I'm on. I forget...:innocent:.
Oh, and when you get it done, get it with a needle and not a gun. (Same goes for any piercings. If anyone wants to know why I'm anti-gun then either pm me or post here and I'll do my whole lecture ;)).
Miatapony - I adore double nostrils :). Or high nostrils...♥.
And on edit: my nose piercing is in the bit in the middle (the bit seperating your two nostrils), aka Septum. What would that make me? ;).

I've always heard that a guy with a ring in the wrong ear is 'gay'. Now I hear that a gal with a ring in the wrong nostril is 'gay'. So now for the million dollar question.... what's up with the stud piercing in the tongue?

Well, my nose piercing is on the left and as far as I know I'm not a lesbian...:headscratch: Honestly though, I really don't think which side the piercing is on means anything at all.

Why are you anti-gun? Just curious. I'd like to hear your opinion on it. :) I had my bellybutton done with a needle and they had to do it twice because the girl who started it, couldn't push it all the way through.. She was too inexperienced and got nervous. [I'm not saying I'm anti-needle, I'm just saying that everyone who gets any type of piercing needs to make sure that they're not being practiced on lol.]

I absolutely adore tongue piercings. I don't know why lol but I do. I'd get one myself, but I heard they hurt really really bad.

That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. You get it on whatever side you think looks nice on you. I have my left and I have NEVER had anyone presume me a lesbian. I also have my septum pierced as well lol so I'm all over the place.
Peacebaby- Pinky is anti gun for a good reason...shes SMART! ;) Guns are bad news...don't go anywhere near guns. Needles that you are pierced with are hallow...they take the flesh that they are puncture out of the body to create the whole you will put your jewelery through. When you use a gun the needle is not hallow and therefore pushes the tissue to the side and that can create some serious issues. I think that you made the correct point you were getting at about the girl who pierced you...know if you're being practiced on.

I'm anti-gun too! I currently don't have any piercings. It's not that I'm against body art (I have a tattoo) it's just that I had my ears pierced twice with a gun, and both times it ended badly. That kind of scared me away from the whole piercing buisness, and I've never been back.
As far as the side of the nose for the peircing, I've never heard of that before. I did hear the thing about a guy having his right ear pierced meaning he was gay, but I had never heard the one about the nose. Weird.

I would think left for right and right for othersideofthefence as well. ;) I'm with Kevin.. when I was in school, it was earrings.
I bet if you asked a piercer, they would definitely have some kind of answer.

There is no "right" or "wrong" side for piercings. Get what you want, and what you think will look best.
Another with an old septum piercing here, and against the gun.

The side of the head used to be associated with gay men back in the 70s and 80s. When straight guys started getting their ears pierced on the opposite side and then eventually both ears in the 90s it became a mute point.
The tongue piercing has a lot to do with intimate things that can't be discussed here. My friend got one and her tongue got infected. She's lucky she's still got one!
My friend got one and her tongue got infected. She's lucky she's still got one!
I've met two young ladies that had a portion of their tongues removed from infection. One still talks okay but has to move her mouth oddly to be understood. The other can whisper but is not understandable when speaking.
One of my daughters got one. She removed it after one month. She had already fought off one infection, but that wasn't enough. It was when her little nephews cried when they saw it.

Condensed version of why I hate guns:
Guns cannot be sterilised (they are plastic and/or contain pastic parts that would melt in an autoclave)
The sterile stud cartridge is no longer sterile once its mounted in an unsterile gun
Guns get covered in microspray from every client (that is a very fine mist of fluid that is ejected upon the stud puncturing the skin)
Guns pierce by forcing the stud through the flesh, parting it - rathern than cutting a hollow for the jewellery like a needle does (this brute force can shatter your cartilage)
Guns use butterfly studs which are in 99% of cases made from rubbish materials which contain materials that people are commonly allergic too, or they tarnish or the coating flakes off etc.
Butterfly studs dont allow enought room for swelling.
The placement will never be correct because the guns 'move' (kind of like a real gun) when you press the button.
Considering I normally go off on a 3 page rant about guns, this is not many reasons :P. I'd like to point out, that guns (on lobes and cartilage) are actually considerably more painful than a needle.
Parents - if you take your children to get their ears pierced, please go to a proper, sterile studio and get them done with a needle. Claires etc. is not sterile, they have a one week training course and practise on cardboard or teddy bears. In a reputable studio, the jewellery will have been autoclaved and soaked in a sterile solution and the clamps and needles will be one use. The piercer will have a 5 year apprentiship under their belt and often more if it is their own shop. Everything will be sterile and they should wear non-powdered gloves (latex powder, lots of people are allergic). If you need any help finding a good studio in your area, shoot me a pm and I'll have a look on a members database for a site I use :).
So yeah :). This is why I hate guns.
Edit: If anyone wants to know more about guns vs needles check out : About.com (http://tattoo.about.com/cs/psafety/a/piercing_guns.htm), Ku-Ku (http://ku-ku.co.uk/Gun.htm) and (this one is not for the squeemish, there are pictures or ear collapse [which is what happens 90% of the time if you get your cartilage done with a gun]) BME Wiki (http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Ear_Collapse).
Peacebaby - Did she use clamps? It's fine to freehand any piercing but clamps can make it a little easier sometimes. I don't mind being experimented on really, as long as the apprentice piercer is properly supervised.
Also, piercing cartilage with guns is actually illegal in my county but several places still do it - there is no enforcement of that law at all :/.
If anyone wants to discuss relative merits/downfalls to piercings and anything about body modification at all, don't be afraid to pm me :). I don't bite. Lots of people come in the shop (even though we no longer pierce) to ask questions/get cleaning advice and it's something that I'm also interested in and I ca direct you to some helpful sites ;).
Edit #890 - This video[/URL] on youtube is very good at showing why guns are bad :). It's not gory and shouldn't offend sensitive individuals :). Right, I swear I won't edit this post again....(It started just being my initial points...then I added another paragraph on each edit. Whoops.) My navel piercing hurt WAY more than my tongue stud. Of course I was 19 at the time, so not much was thought of in the way of pain for me then. LOL Both were done with a needle, my ears were done with a pair of self piercers in the form of a sharp-ended hoop that was squeezed daily until it went though the skin. So, I've never had a piercing done with a gun. I have also heard that the impact from the gun can "shatter" cartilage as it pushes the cartilage past its point of being able to flex with the impact. I've considered getting a couple of piercings in the upper cartilage of my ear to put a spiral earring through it.
I wouldn't ever get a facial piercing again. I ended up taking my tongue stud out because it was impacting me being able to get a decent job here in the Midwest. And my navel ring came out when I started riding again after a 5 year hiatus. I found that my blue jeans rubbing on it irritated it to the point that it was constantly infected. So I took it out. My tongue stud was only ever inflammed when I got it. However, I was obsessive about rinsing with watered down mouth wash and the peroxyl mouth wash that I was told to rinse with as many times per day as I could, before and after I ate and immediately upon rising in the AM. And I will say my tongue was swelled up for almost a week after I got it pierced. Funny, it took about 24 hours for the hole to close so that I couldn't get my piercing back through it. My earrings were out for three years and I still got them back in.
My BF jokes about taking me to get my navel done again so he can put a belly chain through it.
I can say that it does gross me out to see nose piercing in wait staff when I am ordering food. I just can't help but imagine snot dripping off of the piercing into my food. When I was out in CA, it seemed like EVERYONE had facial piercings and that it was mandatory if you were in food prep or service to have a facial piercing. Was quite the difference from here where people have to wear bandaids to cover the piercings up when they are in the food industry.

Ohhh that makes sense. See, I didn't know the needles were hollow. I wouldn't want a gun used on me either, but that's more of a personal preference (or used to be before I read all of your posts lol).
Pinky - She did use clamps, but she just didn't know what she was doing and got nervous.

This visual just made me laugh so loud. You vision snot falling of a nose ring? A nostril piercing? I could understand a septum..maybe but not a nostril. I flip my septum up most of the time in my personal life and ALWAYS in my professional but never my nostril. Snot doesn't even touch that thing lol. Oh maybe if someone had a hoop in I could see you getting a little more grossed out but idk lol.
(I'm not a waiter tho btw)
