View Full Version : Will he be happy?

On November 15, Arrow's going to be at a new barn. Currently, he's turned out daily, 24/7 April-December, and stalled at night Jan-March. He's fed twice a day, roundbales always available, summer grass just enough to keep them from getting bored for the most part.

At the new place, he's going to be stalled every night. In the summer, groups of six are in grass pastures with some hay thrown, then hay at night in their stalls. In the winter, they are on sand lots with hay thrown 3 times a day, then hay in their stall at night at bedtime (so 4 times a day).

Is he going to be happy stalled every night? He never has been before... The stalls have windows, his will be open, and I've never blanketed him, and I'm not starting now--at the new place, not all horses have blankets. He's going to have daily, all day turnout except in dangerous weather (same as my current place).

It may take a little adjustment, but I'm sure he will do just fine. The fact that he is already used to being stalled part of the year at night will really help.

I think Arrow will be just fine. I just moved my horse when I moved from a pasture only environment to being stalled at night. I thought he would hate it - he is not big on confinement. But he has done very well and looks great. He seems to be content in his stall at night since he knows he gets to go out all day ")

I think so, he might actually like it and feel safer. Keidas feels very safe in the pastures, but when I put him in his cozy stall he plops down and always takes a snooze - Maybe Arrow will be the same! Don't stress too much, I'm sure he'll be fine! ^_^

My BO has told me she often has to wake my boy up in the morning to go out to - which is nice I know he is getting his ZZZZZZs. He is not big on being laid down - always has his guard up so I think he feels safe at night.
