View Full Version : Why I'm voting Democrat

O.K. I didn't write this, but it might get some discussion going.:innocent:
Why I am voting Democrat!
I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. All profits are evil and should be confiscated for Government Redistribution.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that MORE Government regulations and higher taxes on Business will stop Business from exporting their jobs to Countries with LESS Government regulations and lower taxes.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe terrorists should be allowed to have trials in American courts. And be able to subpoena top secret documents, soldiers, government officials, etc. to cross examine for their defense. They should have ACLU lawyers who can help intimidate Americans who serve on the juries!
I'm voting Democrat because I believe Gay Marriage should be the law of the land and will probably produce better children.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe English should not be the official language of the United States. I don’t mind pushing one for English when I use the phone.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe partial birth abortion is okay but water boarding a terrorist is disgusting.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe having a domestic terrorist like Bill Ayers as a close friend is a good thing. It allows for great relations with foreign terrorists.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe in a FREE government health care system. I believe doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies, etc. will gladly donate their time, products, services, facilities, etc. for FREE and that will be a better system.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe 9/11 was an inside job to con the American people to go to war for oil.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe social security is solvent and that there is a social security lock box and I don’t believe social security is a Ponzi scheme.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe MOST AMERICANS are bitter and cling to their guns and religion. Let’s rid our country of guns and religion!
I'm voting Democrat because I believe illegal aliens deserve all the rights of ordinary Americans plus some additional rights Americans do not have.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe corporations should pay higher taxes! I believe higher taxes on business will make the price of their products and services LESS EXPENSIVE.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe groups like ACORN who register felons, drug addicts, wino’s, homeless drifters, illegal aliens, dead people, children, fictional Disney characters, etc. makes my vote count more.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe celebrating the winter solstice shows compassion for the small minority of people that do not celebrate Christmas.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe hard core criminal murders and rapists deserve life and that the innocent unborn deserve death. It’s a choice I can live with.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe Bush caused Hurricane Katrina and he blew-up the levies in the ninth ward of New Orleans.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe that any one who is not partaking in one of the many wonderful government programs obviously has too much money and should pay higher taxes.
I'm voting Democrat because when we pull out of Iraq the terrorists will be happy and now think of us as good people.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe our soldiers are AIR RAIDING villages and killing innocent people.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe sex in the Oval Office with an intern is a private matter and that everybody lies under oath about sex.
I'm votin Demokrat becuse I wus edumkated at a publick sckrool. I lik da Natsionel Edukatshun Assoseeashun!
I'm voting Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as it does not offend people. Can’t we all just get along?
I'm voting Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits are wrong. I believe higher taxes on oil companies will produce lower prices at the pump.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe we need to rid ourselves of dependency on foreign oil, BUT I AM AGAINST offshore drilling for oil and natural gas, drilling in Anwar, building nuclear power plants and clean coal technology.
And finally, I'm voting Democrat because I believe Reverend Wright when he said “G.D. AMERICA” and “OUR CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST”. Hey let’s make a comfortable nest for those chickens!
Why are you voting Democrat?:p
I'm voting democrat because I can't stand McCain/Palin duo.

I'm voting Democrat because I believe that Obama/Biden have the best plan for America. I detailed my specific reasons for Tatesgram a week or so ago, and just posted them again this afternoon for Diane. I'm sure you can find that thread easily enough if you wish to see the specifics.

LOL - I was being honest! I'm going with the "lesser of two evils" vote. For me its Obama/Biden. I'm independent, no party loyalties, but I couldn't stand Bush from the beginning and I sure don't want someone who has voted with him such a high percentage of time - I don't care how many times they call him a Maverick. Its gotten to the point that the word maverick is now equivalant to fingernails on a chalk board. :p

I think I read between the lines that you KNOW that is "tongue and cheek" when I say "Why I'm voting Democrat". I did see the post that you are referring to. I agree with a lot of it, but the things I don't agree with are big items for me. I am republican all the way and I respect your views just as much as anyone elses. That's what's great about a democratic (even thought it should be a republican society) society. We have control over our own destiny and hopefully we make the right choices. No presidential race has been completely one sided. People have a right to vote their conscience.
What are we going to talk about after the elections? Maybe Horseless will come up with some hot topics for discussion.

I thought Clinton was a fine president, but handsome? Blech. I certainly never saw it--I don't think we've ever had a handsome president, even JFK. For president, at least, Americans don't seem to be quite that shallow! They judge on looks for most other things in life, but I can't really think of a good-looking politician off the top of my head--except for Palin, actually, she's fairly pretty.

We'll have plenty to talk about after the election. One thing I have never received a response to though is my question about whether everyone will give the new President a chance for at least a year or so. Perhaps it's too much to ask, but I feel rather strongly about that one. I've always done it and I'm a firm believer in the adage that "He may not have been my pick, but he's our President".

And if I'm wrong, I will absolutely admit it. Everyone who knows me personally would attest to that. It has cost me at times in my career because I won't wait to be asked, and I won't allow anyone else to be blamed for my mistakes. If I know that I goofed up, I will step forward and say "Actually, that was my fault..." That's one reason why I could never be elected to anything. :) My opponent could destroy me with my own words.

I am hoping that if Obama becomes the next President that America will give him the respect he is due as The President of The United States of America. AND not like the respect given to the current President of The United States of America by the Democrats and the Far Left Radicals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how much respect McCain will get if he becomes President??????

Absolutely. If Obama is elected, he will be our president and he will get from me the respect that his office demands. That is one thing that has TOTALLY turned me off about how the Dems have talked about and treated our current pres. I may not agree with everything President Bush has done, but I'm not going to throw him under the bus and talk about him like he is some kind of dirt bag. He is still the leader of the most powerful country in the world and he is still commander and chief of our armed forces and he deserves respect as such. The Polosi's and others of the anti Bush band wagon make me sick with their obvious contempt and disrespect for our president. Oh man, I almost started on Polosi and that would be ugly. What a piece of work she is. I would never treat any president that way. Heck, as disgusting as the whole Clinton soap opera was, I still respected his position and his decisions. We voted him in, right or wrong, he's our president and we need to give them a chance. I will say, that if Obama gets elected, I will be watching his every move for quite some time. I have trust issues ya see. :(

That's fair, Sundays Man. I think it's only reasonable to be guarded about a candidate whose policies you vehemently disagree with becoming president.
I don't think it's right to call someone such names, either. I didn't like it when they did it so much to Dan Quayle. He was a U.S. Senator before becoming VP, after all. I still have to catch myself to make sure that I get potato and potatoes correct when I spell them.
There is one thing that I was thinking about earlier today, though. We can't control what others in our party say, what the candidates themselves say, or any of that. And saying "Well, what they said was even worse!" is no justification, either. We can only control what we say, as individuals. Individual responsibility.
JackieB
10-24-2008, 07:14 PM
Does that street go two ways?
You mean for me? Absolutely. I have always felt that way, at least as far as I can remember. I can't think of a president that I didn't support for a good long while in office. Like a year or so. After a year, we should be able to get a good idea of how someone is going to lead and what he/she plans to accomplish in that term.
It's not fair to just second-guess and criticize everything that a leader does. And it doesn't help the U.S. to be too divided, either.

JackieB, I agree. It doesn't matter which side it comes from, it turns me off to hear people talking about other political rivals with disdain. I hope you didn't see me using a broad brush to include all Dems with my critcisms. I only used that as an example and I guess it was a partisan view, but there are a few Dems who are almost venomous with their remarks and comments and the same for the reps. Seems like some of them haven't had a civil thing to say about anyone in the other party and that's on both sides. We reps have our craby people too.

I TOTALLY agree. When the dust settles and while our knuckles are healing, we had better find a way to come together. I honestly feel that the future of our nation depends on us coming to our senses and realizing that we are all in the same boat and work together for our nation's welfare and quit worrying about what party affiliation someone has. These are dangerous days we live in and we need to have a level head and firm resolve to put our country first. We are Americans first and Dems or Reps second.

I don't know about all public schools, but a teacher at my local public school got in trouble for bringing up his opinion on the election. It wasn't a huge thing, but all the teachers there have kept any comments they were about to share to themselves.
I go to a private school and many teachers have stayed there very long because they are allowed to express what they believe. We don't have to believe it or agree but their opinions can be stated. And actually no the opposing side wasn't mentioned. My history teacher has been teaching there for 15 years, but brother had him and his stays very loyal to his republican conservative roots.

That's fine. It's a private school and he's entitled to say whatever he wants because your school doesn't accept public funds.
But please try to understand that those who fight these issues for the right reason, are only doing so because they are trying to be fair and uphold the Constitution.
Let's see if I can make an analogy that might make sense and invoke some of the emotion that people who are on the other side of these issues feel. Imagine that you helped pay to build that school. And your teacher had a poster on his chalkboard with the most insulting things imaginable about Kurt Cobain. And everyday, he spent a few minutes putting down Kurt Cobain.
So, you ask if you can put up a poster with a list of the great contributions you feel Kurt Cobain made. And you'd also like to talk to the class a bit about why Kurt Cobain means so much to you. But you're told that this is impossible because there isn't time or space, and besides, everyone knows that Kurt Cobain was awful.
Given that you helped build that school, and you live in a country that prides itself on trying to be absolutely fair in matters involving the government and citizens' rights, wouldn't that seem unfair? And wouldn't you want to challenge it?
It took me awhile to understand this concept, but it really is just about upholding the Constitution.

Jb, I just skimmed through my copy of the Constitution & I couldn't find the term "absolute fairness". Granted I just quickly reviewed it but I couldn't find the word fair either. I guess maybe our Founding Fathers were aware that life isn't fair & they got over it. As far as freedom of speech, now that is in there. I find it very sad that teachers have to check their beliefs & opinions at the door every morning when they go to school.

Yes JackieB I understand and I don't agree with how he puts it across. He has been known for years as the I dont give a beep what anyone thinks, and he has never censored what he believes. Part of me finds that he is stepping over my personal line. It is really hard to explain this guy, he is a great teacher, but just a bit blunt. It is ironic that you mentioned Kurt Cobain as an example because he has come up in our class before...can't remember why. And you're right it did get my nickers in a bunch, but I stated why I didn't think he was some regular drug addict and something else. Of course like you mentioned it didn't change what he thought on the matter and he continued to call him the "heirion king of the generation". Like I mentioned there are some things I DO admire about my teacher, but sometimes I think he goes on this perades to get a laugh...while others find it a bit offending.
The one thing I do like about this politic thread is how everyone remains friends. Politics and beliefs should not be the only judge on whether or not you like the individual. I have many friends who support Obama/McCain, prochoice/prolife, middle class/upper class, and atheists/agnostics/jewish/and christian. I wouldn't have it anyother way it keeps my mind open in many aspects and I see the point of view of others. I don't like to label myself as a conservative or a liberal because you can't separate them as right or wrong. There are good things about both, and also negatives.

Grunge, good call about discussing "hot" topics & still remaining friends. A local horse forum had to ban religous, political, sexual (Horseless) topics because folks started out talking about their mammas. It is very boring now. If I wanna talk about horses I can go to the barn!:cowboy:

Jb, I just skimmed through my copy of the Constitution & I couldn't find the term "absolute fairness". Granted I just quickly reviewed it but I couldn't find the word fair either. I guess maybe our Founding Fathers were aware that life isn't fair & they got over it. As far as freedom of speech, now that is in there. I find it very sad that teachers have to check their beliefs & opinions at the door every morning when they go to school.
Perhaps it's not worded that way, but I think you'd have a hard time arguing that fairness, justice, reasonable treatment, and most of all individual rights to these things are at the heart of the Constitution.
This isn't about whether or not life is fair. Everyone understands that life can be terribly unfair. But, with all due respect rocknK, I find the argument that perhaps the Founding Fathers realized that "life isn't fair & they got over it" to be absurd. If you believe that, why are you even concerned with how much taxes you pay, for example? Shouldn't you just "get over it" if you don't think it's fair? Of course not. The First Amendment guarantees your right to petition your elected officials to address grievances that you consider to be unfair. They didn't have this right as colonists and, if I understand my history correctly, this was what the Boston Tea Party was about, and then the Revolutionary War - unfair treatment from Great Britain.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. This is one of the few places where I have been able to debate politics with people who totally disagree with me, but who treat me with respect, nonetheless.
Thanks for reading my response.

Absolutely Fair. Hmmm, that's interesting. What is absolutely fair about anything the govt is doing to us. If you think about it, people who choose to send their children to private school probably have a lot to say about what goes on there since their money is what supports the place, plus they still have to pay public school taxes. I find some of the things being taught in our public schools today to be MORE than offensive and yet I can't get a thing done about it. I'm just a conservative you see and my views don't really count with a secular progressive elite liberal system. I think we need to take a look at the concept of aboslute fairness. It doesn't exists. Never has, never will. The tides of fairness shift with the views and opinions of whoever is in charge at the moment and to heck with anyone who doesn't see it their way. I could sit and name one issue after another of what I think is wrong with our system, but then I would just be whistling in the dark and I'm a little tired of that. I am hoping for the best in our country, but preparing for the worst.
We just need to keep giving freedoms away like we have been by putting in secular progessive thinking Supreme Court Justices and the like and hope for the best. It's like boiling a frog. Put him in the cool water and start heating it. He'll be boiled and never realize it until it's too late. I think the water is getting hot for us now and some just don't feel it yet.
Now please excuse me while I go put my body armor on. :)

Maybe I shouldn't have used those words. Absolute fairness doesn't exist. No argument there. But I do think it's accurate to say that fairness is the ideal that the framers of the Constitution had in mind.
The Supreme Court is the ultimate body of "fairness" in the United States, and their decisions so often (always?) come down to the Constitution and its Amendments.
Now obviously, the concept of what is "fair" varies considerably as you pointed out. The Supreme Court often makes its decisions on 5-4 rulings. Anything but unanimous. However, that still represents their best judgment regarding what is fair, and I hold to my opinion that this is what was intended in establishing the Constitution.

Can't really argue with that. I do think, though, that our founding fathers would probably shoot themselves through the knee caps if they saw some of the ruling coming down from our SC and the "reasoning" and basis for it. I think there's something in the water up there or kool aid or sumtin.:)

Taxation has nothing to do with fairness. I think our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves at all the taxes we have to pay. They started wars over stamp & tea taxes. I've seen what the Govt. does to those who don't pay their taxes, ever hear of an 'ol boy named Al Capone?? The "G" men couldn't get him but the IRS did!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my opinion.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending MY MONEY than I would. I think when you spread the wealth around it is good for everybody! It’s Patriotic!
You trust Democrats with your money more than you trust yourself??? Democrats are big spenders about big government. And isn't that last part called communism?
Ok wait after reading half of this I really, really hope this a joke and no one thinks like that.
I'm voting Democrat because I believe in and support trial lawyers, frivolous lawsuits and outrageous jury verdicts.
That was the statement that made me think that by the way.

No, it was tongue and cheek stuff. I think it's a safe bet that one of my conservative brothers or sisters wrote that. Not a bad summation though, Huh?:)

Yeah, I was kidding of course, but I think he was even wrong about the Corvair. I loved those little cars. They bring pretty good money these days.

Especially the six-cylinder ones! They might have been the ones that were unsafe at any speed!
