I thought this'd be a good thread to see what other sports everyone's involved in! :).

I'm mostly into board sports - skateboarding is my main form of transport, surfing is my summer sport and snowboarding is the thing I love nearly as much as horses :p. I've been having major carving withdrawals lately which has sparked my purchase of a t-board and a freebord; both of which are supposed to mimic the feel of carving in some deep powder <3.

I also go rock climbing, abseiling and hill walking fairly often, I don't run as much as I used to because my knees get really swollen when doing high impact upon a hard surface for any period of time.

Next summer, I shan't be suffering any snow withdrawals - I'm going to a snowboarding summer camp on Mt.Hood in Oregon! :D.

I like to run, i was trying to build up and got up to six miles before my surgery, I feel like I might be able start again soon, but the bigger problem now is I think I might have a stress fracture in my foot. I also swim and enjoy water polo when I get the chance to play. I also enjoy rock climbing but since I don't have equipment I rarely get the chance to do it. Of course I also enjoy stuff like hiking/backpacking if that counts as a sport :) and I enjoy skiing in the Winter.

Your coming to Oregon? Washington is right next door and we got like five ski spots within 2 hours of spokane, it's great!

What's abseiling?

What's abseiling?

I play soccer... very poorly, but I do play.

I also run and lift weights, although not as much as I should. I need to get back into a set routine.

Quest - You can get some really good deals on climbing equipment on ebay!
I'm hoping to come to Oregon for a week in August of next year - Mt Hood has snow all year round :). We're thinking of Canada for a family snowboarding/skiing holiday but it'd have to be two weeks because the flight is so long! (18 hours or more :S).
Abseiling is called rapelling with you, as gabhainn said :).

Dakota - I bet you're good at soccer! Do you play on a team?
I'm too wimpy to life weights ;). My arms are tiny and my legs are huge - I'm not in proportion at all :p.

I want a good pair of stiff soled climbing shoes, i'll probably try some at REI, figure out what I like and what size, then find it at ebay. I've always been lucky everywhere I went had gear, I climbed a lot inside this Winter and our school had free rentals, albeit not top quality, but they certainly worked :).

I've got some good cliffs and stuff within bus-route distance so I've not done much indoor climbing to be honest. Good luck with the shoes - let me know if you're really struggling to find some because a climbing shop in Cardiff has a 70% off sale twice a year :).

I got a new pair of Peter Storm boots and didn't get any blisters! They were a really good price too - £25 in a sale :). Normally I end up paying twice as much for climbing boots because I take a size 10 in them! Normally I'm only a size 7...or a size 6 if I don't want to look like a clown ;).

Lucky. I have places in the area, and some great bouldering areas as well, but without people to go with it makes it hard :) Especially since i'm still pretty novice. I've only had the chance to go outdoor climbing a few times and it was so much better than indoor! We had a crack climb and that was the best:) I'm gonna have a hard time with shoes since I have high arch and wide at the ball

Nah, I pretty much suck.:innocent: It's not a good idea to join your high school's soccer team at 16 when you've never played soccer or any other group sport ever before. I don't really know what I'm doing so I definately suck and mess up all the time. It is fun though, sometimes.

I like lifting weights, but I don't do it enough. You're lucky you have tiny arms! My arms are so thick and so are my legs. I HATE it! I'm just short and stocky, it so sucks.

Have you ever been gorge-walking? It's one of the most hilarious things I've ever done in my life! My school took us last year and one of the teachers kept falling over and couldn't get his leg high enough to reach a foothold while we were climbing up xD.

I hear ya about not having anyone to go with. The areas I go to are always pretty busy so there's always someone to climb with - even if you don't know them.

Dakota - You do not have big arms or legs! I get called 'thunder thighs' at the shop (as a joke).
Do you know the offside rule? I swear it's more complicated than the theory of relativaty! I like soccer, I don't play anymore though - I'll stick to watching it on the telly :).

Palo - That's so cool! The nearest snowboarding place to me with real snow is indoor and in Birmingham (2 hour drive) :/.
I'm going here (http://www.highcascade.com/high-cascade.html) for the summer camp - do you know anyone whos sent their kids there?

How did you start wakeboarding? Like...what made you try it at first?

gorge-walking=spelunking/caving? I've gone a couple of different times in Wyoming, it's an absolute blast! I've always wanted to try water skiing or wakeboarding!

medieval swordfighting is my passion.

As soon as I get my knee surgery, I'll get my doo-doo together and get back in training.

I attended my first practice back in 2000 and loved it ever since. Nothing like being all armored up and smacking people with a rattan stick. Lots of owies for certain, but wickedly cool! I had a couple years off with my left knee surgery (thanks to swordfighting). The right one I did at work. It'll probably end up being in August looks like. Ughh....

I have the coolest mental image for medieval swordfighting now :). It sounds much more exciting than normal fencing (I go to fencing club in school).

Palo - Fair enough :P. The water round here is 'warm' (ha!) enough that I could surf all year but I hate wetsuits and am a big sissy ;).
Be careful when you go snowboarding - it's seriously addictive! You also might find that you build up quite a collection of random stuff related to snowboards xD. I have about 6 pairs of bindings and only one board!

This is my brand new helm. I had my armorer carve horses facing away from each other in the grill. Brand spankin' new and I cannot wait to try it out.

This is my upper body armor. Not wear my leg protection because I was riding Solon and this was his very first medieval event. It was more to get him used to other horses in barding and noisy armor and flapping pavilions.

Oooh, I love the helm - that's some amazing metal work :). The poster behind it's quite nice too ;).

Is the upper body armour loosely based on the Roman armour (but without metal)? And I don't think I've ever said, but Solon is absolutely gorgeous! Will you continue fighting with him after you get your knee sorted?

Good eye!! Yep, I portray 145 AD Roman/Greek. Solon was retired as a warhorse when he outgrew the trailer I was buying. I just never bought another trailer, because I couldn't find one he'd fit in. He's happy playing soccer now.

I can still do the medieval games on horseback - they always have rental horses (that's a real treat to watch!) and other riders will let you use their mounts. My passion is hitting people though. http://x25.xanga.com/b03c96340563180178421/t32610448.gif

There's something to be said for going up against a six foot 250 lbs. man and bringing him right to his knees. More times than not I get the crap beat plum out of me. But those times you do get the golden hit. WOW..... just awwwwesome!

gabhainn - What's softball? :P. I get what you mean about work taking up loads of time - when I'm in school (summer holidays atm) and I work Saturday and Sunday there's no time to do stuff that I really want to. I do love my job though and all the cool people I meet compensates for it :).

Cheval - Do you get to choose what time frame you portray or is it up to a group leader? How big's Solon now? It's cool they let you rent horses! :). :hysterical: at why you love hitting people.

I've played soccer for 14 years on house league, school and travel teams. I love it!
I've also done a ton of volleyball and basketball. A little bit of baseball (i hate baseball). I used to rock climbing with my dad when there was the place for it here, but I rarely get to do that anymore. I also used to do a lot of track, figureskating and gymnastics. .....I don't like sitting around hahaha. I also did dace for 8 years and competitive hip hop especially for 4 :)

In a normal year I lift weights, run, kayak, water ski, X-country ski, and bike. In the past I rode bulls, roped, karate, tennis, and softball. Both my knees went to crap last year so it has really slowed me down. I went to the doc today and I have an MRI set up for Tuesday to see just what is wrong. Nothing showed up on the x-rays.

I should probably add fly fishing, and hiking. Did some surfing when I was a kid but didn't do it very well.

Hmm, not to big on any other sports besides riding, but I used to play house league baseball, and still play a bit with my brothers every now and then. I did enjoy volleyball and badmington in school, but never was on a team or anything. I did figure skating as well as gymnastics when I was little too, but never really pursued any of it as I grew older. I'm sticking to my riding for right now :)
