Ok, so I'm thinking about getting this saddle. There is a used one for sale with a round skirt, 7" gullet, ralide tree, dark oil, smooth leather which is a huge thing for me (I hate roughout), and it's in wonderful shape. It looks like ones made by Longhorn retail for over $750...which isn't horrible. It's not a circle y or anything though.
I originally wanted to get a Bob Marshall treeless but they are just too much money and I'm thinking I can deal with this as while I save up for a treeless in a couple of years. The owner is offering a refund if it doesn't fit Dixie as long as it's in the same shape.
Do you guys know anything else about these saddles?

I just did some more research and found a buisness information page for a Longhorn Saddle Shop that does mainly custom saddles and then I found a distrubtor for Longhorn saddles, most of them retailed over $1000.

This is sort of off topic, but I was just curious- why do you hate rough out saddles? I've never ridden in one with rough-out, but I was thinking it would be great for gaming and eventually I wanted to get a rough-out barrel saddle. So i'm trying to gather opinions on them! :D
Ok, Back to Topic! xD Sorry!:innocent:

Haha, that's fine! It's really just a personal preference...I guess I should have been more specific. For gaming, I wouldn't mind the roughtout seat but I'd really rather have smooth fenders. I often get rubbed from roughtout fenders and I don't feel like I have as mobile legs as I do with fenders...I don't exactly know why, I just don't like the thought of my legs sticking to the fenders, I'd rather they be more independent from the fenders. Does that make sense?
But you never know until you ride in one, I know some people who absolutely love them. Isn't your barrel saddle a roughout? I'm off to search for pictures!

Just checked and yeah, it looks like you've got the roughout on the seat and not the fenders. That's how I like it if I am to have roughout and it would be beneficial in gaming.

Oooh! Suede, I didn't even think of that! That makes so much more sense, the coloring and everything. I'm calling this one of my blonde moments, I was blonde when I was little ;) And actually, I think they barely ever have roughout on the seat, stupid me, it's always suede. Gosh.
Ok, well then, I like the suede too. I just don't like the roughout fenders so now I'm back to my original statement, I don't like roughout saddles. :)

Longhorns are okay, though they're not as good as they used to be ;). I would give it a shot though. If it fits you both and is comfy, then go for it! I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a used Longhorn though, no matter how good of condition it's in. You can get a nice used Circle Y for $300-600, depending on how used, so just keep that in mind.

Oh, and I LOVE my Bob Marshall! :D I would definitely get one once you can swing it. Go 1" up in size though, as they do run a tad small. I bought mine nearly new for $1,000, $400 off new price. They hold their resale value VERY well ;). Just be sure to get a good Skito Treeless pad (http://www.aretesaddlery.com/tack/tack/saddle-pads/skito-pads/treeless-skito-pad/prod_95.html) with it. Those are the best at distributing weight and keeping everything in place. If you get the "laminated foam" option, it provides even better weight distribution and some "twist" to the saddle, which helps make it more stable and comfortable. I could REALLY feel the difference between my old Skito (regular foam) and my new Skito with the laminated foam.
Good luck saddle shopping! If you'll let me know your seat size, tree size, and budget, I can do some digging for you.

Thank you luvs!
The longhorn unfortunely sold, it was only $200 so I figured it would go quick. But thank you for all of the information, now I know. :)
I currently ride in a Circle Y Bob Marshall, it's owned by the stable. I love Bob Marshalls so much!! They're great for both barrel racing and trail riding, my two loves. I know all to well about the resale value! My budget for a bob marshall is around $600-$800 and I really do not want a Circle Y, I'd rather have a genuine Bob Marshall. The Circle Y often pushes me forward in my seat.
If you find any good deals on Bob Marshalls, let me know!

What size BMSS do you need? Do you want the Barrel model or will a trail model due? Any preferences on look? I'll keep my eye out for you.
