Here is what the shed looks like right now.

Hubby is out there with the skidsteer moving dirt around so we can put the gravel in when it arrives.

Oh how he wishes this were ours. :) But he is lucky enough to borrow it whenever he wants:

So exciting! We used every single INCH of that OSB for kickboard... so it was a good buy with no waste - I was a bit worried thinking we wouldn't have enough.

Reno will probably be going into this pasture for the week while we are gone, since I am still not 100% on all 3 horses being together while I'm away and just having my Brother in law over to feed 1x a day.

Ugh. Hubby just came in and someone else is using the dump truck, so we aren't able to get any gravel today. Which puts a HUGE stop to the run in and Reno being in there.

We are trying to think of other options though, maybe bringing in dirt with the tractor for a temporary fill.

Thanks WB, i'm really excited to have a shelter that is JUST FOR HORSES and not any messy cattle.

Does it NEED the gravel in there to use it temporarily? It seems safe enough as is. :)

The only thing that i'm really worried about its the outside where the tin is exposed on the bottom. Hubby is out there right now getting some dirt and we'll see how it goes.

Do you think it would be okay for Reno without the inside filled in so it's level? You can see in the pictures how much fill we need on the left side...

I don't think he'll care if it's level. Covering the bottom edge of the tin is a good idea... I have known horses to figure out how to cut themselves on that. They're mostly likely to kick at it though, if there are two horses fighting for space.

okay, we will see what we can get done. ideally we want Reno in here by tonight, so that I can watch him for the next few days to see if he does alright.

as of right now the 3 horses are out in the 80 grazing peacefully together, but you just never know.

Looks great! :)
I agree with WBay, I think Reno will love it too, and I agree with you - better safe than sorry :p

Well it's FINISHED!!!

We ended up getting a dump box from someone else that hooks up to the tractor, so after about 5 loads of gravel... we have a finished run-in!!!

And we moved Reno in. He seems to enjoy being by himself for a change and I know he's safe. And as soon as we let him out in the pasture, he ran right to the run in. I've never seen any horse so all about shelters and run -ins, but this horse is ALL about them. :)

thanks for all the help WB. i'm glad with our final placement, which is right smack dab in the middle of the pasture. and the osb, was a good cheap way to go for kickboard!

and now i can vacation almost worry free about the horses!

I like it too! The OSB is a lot cheaper than plywood, and is just as strong, IMHO.

wow that looks terrific!!!! ya may want to add a support to the center post....my big butt haflingers love to use it for a butt rub...i ran out to take some pics of ours so you could see what i mean...couldn't go out empty handed so honey and brandy had a treat while posing for you...they each have a 12x24 run in across from each other...i use the gates to lock them in for daily supplement feedings and during emergency lock down....the rest of the time the gates swing in and lock so their open to go in when they want...i simply throw the poop out the front and then drag all the poop around our sand dry lot...everything stays nice and clean without having any poop piles....your gonna love having your run in! good job!!

where did you find those gates. i am wanting to put something like that in ours for emergency if someone were to get injured and need stalling. and now that Reno is on grain... it would also come in handy in the winter for feedings, especially since mine don't get along.

they're called Breezy gates....got 'em 9 years ago online....it was the only way to get them but well worth the shipping....we have 5 of them and i can hang these gates by myself! i just LOVE THEM!! why they're not available everywhere is beyond me...try searching 'Breezy Gate'....i don't have the info any more but i'll try and find it too

thanks! i showed hubby the pictures and he seems to think the extra support is a great idea and he said it's super easy to put up. we have a lot of extra wood from the stuff we bought for the shed, so hopefully we can put it up next weekend.

I am off to google Breezy gates. :)
