J has an interview for a job in Portland! Yea!!!:banana::happydance::cheers::happydance: :clap:
He heard about a job with a company over in Portland and while looking into it found out it is owned by someone he used to work with! So he called him up and told him that he was looking for a job and to move back to Portland (not exactly the truth but we will be only an hour from his kids). The guy asked J what he had been doing and what he had experience in now, J told him allegro and the guy told him they were in desperate need of allegro designers! J has a phone interview set up for next Tuesday at 10:30 am, they aren't even making him go there just a phone interview. Apparently there are several people working there that J used to work with so we're pretty sure he is a shoe in but are trying not to get our hopes up to much, you never know... But I can't seem to help it! Move over Cheval, looks like Portland here we come!!!!!!

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys! I love Portland, I'd move back there in a heartbeat if I didn't also have 4 horses and three dogs to move.

hahaha! We'll have 2 cats, 2 big dogs, and Koda to move. I'm gonna have to see if I can trade 2 ton of timothy for a haul to Portland for Koda and almost a ton of hay. That shouldn't be hard, the 2 ton was over $350 and it shouldn't take $350 in gas to go from the Spokane area to Portland. Should it?

Thanks! We are real excited too! I have a good feeling about this just have to get the arrangements out of the way.

Okay, it is roughly 750 miles round trip. If the truck got 15 mpg at $2.70 per gallon it would cost $135.00 round trip for gas. At 10 mpg it would cost $202.50 round trip. So I bought 3.5 ton at $160.00 a ton and I figure Koda will have eatten the better part of the .5 ton by the time we move, take a ton with us and trade 2 ton for shipping of Koda and hay... Whoever I get to ship is gonna get $320.00 worth of hay so worse case senario is they pocket $117.50 worth of good timothy hay. I know I will end up buying more hay when I get there but doesn't that sound like a good deal for whoever ships? Gonna ask the neighbor with the huge stock tailer first and if they aren't interested I'll ask my cousin with the 3-4 horse slant. Just hope there's enough room in the trailer!

Tomorrow's the day! If all goes well they will have J fly down to Portland to view the offices and do the 'formal' interview. We are already house hunting and have some that we'd like to view. A couple even have property for Koda so I wouldn't have to board him! Keep those fingers crossed everyone!

Wow, that's wonderful! Things are looking up for you, keep us posted..... wouldn't it be great to not have to board Koda?!! :)

Oh yes, I want that so bad! J is worried about getting Koda there and actually asked me about selling him and getting another horse once we are settled. He had valid questions that actually had nothing to do with money like is Koda everything I want in a horse, is he my dream horse, etc. I was honest and told him that I didn't know and really wouldn't know till I was able to have him closer and spend more time with him. I know that when we are together more like last year we click better then we have this summer but that I wasn't giving him up till I gave us a chance. I was very adamint and prob over reacted a bit, this isn't the first time someone has told me to sell Koda just the first time it was J. Last time when it was M that said that J was pissed and wanted me to tell her off since she rides Indie about as much as I do Koda right now. I was a little shocked that he suggested it, I mean if it was a longer trip then Idaho to Oregon and us not having a trailer then I could see it as being something that would need consideration.

Wow, good luck to you! Sounds like you are more excited about your potential move than I am about mine :) If I had a larger trailer I could at least get you to Seattle, which is a lot closer than here, but alas, my two horses are gonna be squished in mine on the way over. Good luck finding a hauler though!

Thanks Quest and Ponies. J is gonna see about a signing bonus (they don't do moving expenses unfortunatly) so I'm hoping that we get enough to maybe buy a little trailer and tow it behind one of the trucks. But if not I do know of people I can borrow trailers from, hopefully with them towing it in exchange for hay!

I think we would click too. When we are able to spend time we are really good, we just need the time and proximity!

Well in about an hour and a half or so I should get a call from J letting me know how it went. I hate waiting!

dame_wolf
08-11-2009, 12:22 PM
Well not exactly the news I was hoping for but still not bad. J said the interview went good, they did a lot of talking about J's qualifications and what he has done. They guy told him that when they hire people they hire for long term employment and that they are looking to hire 3 people in about 2 weeks and that he'd be calling J back. I was really hoping to give my 2 week notice not have to wait another 2 weeks before knowing anything. Still, sounds encouraging.

Oh dang it, I was hoping they'd offer J the job on the spot, but a lot of places do take longer nowadays.....it sounds great tho, and very promising, I bet he will get the offer in 2 weeks! And OMG would I ever love to move out there and rent the place you are going to be leaving.....I tell ya, if I had the money to move, I'd be doing just that, right now! :)

I hope you can take Koda with you, it's not like you have to haul him all the way across the country. Go with your gut feeling I would say, if you want to keep Koda, I think you should keep him.

He's going with me. If after we have time together we just aren't clicking then I'll worry about selling and trying again but I'm not giving up on him without a decent chance.

We found the perfect place to rent just outside of Portland too! 6 bed, heated shop, barn, on 19 acres with a pond! I was gonna get a part time job and then board some horses so Koda would have hoofed company. We were hoping to call on it tomorrow and set up a time to see it when J had his formal interview but that's not gonna happen now. Maybe we'll be lucky and it will still be avaliable in 2 weeks when he is offered the job (still optimistic).

That sounds like a great place! Too bad you have to wait another two weeks.
I think it sounds pretty promising though. If they didn't like him they would have let him know already.
Good luck!

That's how we are taking it too, that they would have told him no instead of will call in 2 weeks.
