I was wondering if anyone here mixed their own foods up? I know for myself the feed here has risen in cost, and was looking for the cheapest, yet best food for her. If you see what I mean. I want her to get everything she needs(and I'll pay a little more to make sure she gets what she needs), but I know some people can mix their foods and have more in it that the horse needs, versus some foods.
So if your mix your feed, what do you put in it? Does it appear to work better or worse then other foods already prepared? Any info you can give would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sharon

Right now she's getting Dumor StablEnergy twice a day, about 3 lbs each feeding. She is one light work. I do groundwork at the most 4 times a week (depends on weather), and she gets rode at the most 4 times a week. The rides are only short 1 -1 1/2 hr rides.

Sorry I can't help you, but I'll be interested to hear what others have to say.

With Heidi she had a scoop of chaff, a scoop of 'calm and cool', sugar beet, biotin, garlic and corn oil :)

They used to sell a complete feed with all this in but it was just wayyy cheaper for us to 'make' it ourselves.

I mix mine, sort of, lol. I use Uckele's Equi-Base Grass, which is a vitamin supplement for horses on pasture or grass hay that don't get any fortified grain. I mix that with 1/2 scoop of plain whole oats (a 2qt feed scoop) and 1 scoop of chopped pre-bloom alfalfa hay. The Alfalfa helps the supplement stick and the oats are "just cause". My horses are doing very well on it! That's all they get for their "grain". They get a bale of bermuda between them, about 25-30 lbs of hay each, plus whatever they can nibble on in our small pasture.
