View Full Version : Anyone ever have pneumonia?

Remali

Yes, I am probably going to go back to the doctor. I was there 2 weeks ago for a bad sore throat, and headache. I just cannot get rid of this, and it only seems to be getting worse. Last week I had the stomach flu, the week before that I had a sore throat and bad headache (headache never went away, still have it), and I have run a low-grade fever off and on the entire time. I've also had a persistant cough and a really stuffy nose. **groan** It's getting old. I had a mild case of pneumonia many years ago.....so now I am wondering.

If you do, I think you should feel it in your lungs.

I've had pneumonia twice... and never had a sore throat. To me that sounds more like a really bad sinus infection (like my mother and my brother have had... it's been going around our town). I'd go get it checked out before it does turn into anything more. ;) Feel better! :)

Awe, I'm sorry Remali! I have it twice and it's no fun. Definitely head to the doctors.

I've had pneumonia a few times, not fun.:(
Mine started with strep throat and then into my lungs. It got so bad that I could not make it up the stairs (25 steps) without getting dizzy, light headed, no oxygen.
I finally went to the hospital when I had a sharp pain by my heart and my left arm went numb.
After numerous tests, I was told I had pheumonia.
I got it in June, finally got rid of it in Nov. Got it back in May, caught it, treated it fast.
This is definately not something that I will ever put on the back burner again. I was a real sick puppy and TOO stubburn to get it treated right.
Oh, note to EVERYONE, "quick cares are not specialists, go to a real doctor or hospital"

I do feel a little short of breath....but, you know, it could be a sinus infection.... Hmmm.....
Yes, I better go see my doctor Monday if I am not better......

Yes, there is an Urgent Care here....if I feel worse I am definitely going in. Right now I took some cough med and some Tylenol. And a hot cup of chocolate sure does sound great!

Sorry to hear that you feel crappy :sick:Remali,, but agree with Arrow. If you had pneumonia you would feel it in your lungs. Get to the Doc. soon before it settles in your lungs.

I've had pneumonia. What I think you'd describe if you actually had pneumonia is chest pain and a lot of pain when you cough. Now... you may have bronchitis which can become pneumonia, and if you can I'd get in and get on some antibiotics and a real good expectorant to keep that from happening.... sooner rather than later.

Sorry to hear your under the weather. I swear by Theraflu and tylenol sinus. but not together.... Sounds more like a bad sinus infection which could easily turn into mild pneumonia if not taken care of. Did you get your flu shot yet? They may offer it at work...

I bet I have bronchitis and the dang flu.....that seems more in line with my symptoms. I even fell asleep this afternoon, and I NEVER ever sleep during the day. But, well, I guess I needed the extra rest.

MyHorseBiggs.....here is a good link about pneumonia.....

i am the queen of pneumonia.....get to your dr.
i got P when in europe for 8 months and then reocurrance for 10 yrs after ...finally got a dr that would treat me immediately....with pen and vit b and massive antibiotics....
feels like cement bag is on chest...you can get pluresy(sp) from coughing too much...which feels like someone took a baseball bat to your ribs in the back sides...
i sleep with heating pad on back or front....live with vicks....and sombra
use a viti(sp) pot and qtips to clean out nose....
wash hands when ever in the bathroom!!
the longer you have it the more scar tissue you develop in your lungs.....
get rid of it

i spent 6 months with athsma and allergy specialist...who found that until i am coming in on flight for life...my P does not show up on my x ray......so he documented my file to read....if she says she has it...TREAT HER!!!bless that man
get the shot ....get well...take care

Awww, Renee- I was hoping you were starting to get better! I'll second, third or whatever the count is up to now about getting in to see the doc. You've been sick too long!

Also, please update us when you do, and let us know what you found out.

Brochitis is going around here, that and the stomach/intestinal stuff. The girl who works next to my husband was getting bad chest pains, they took her to the ER and she has Pneumonia and Pluracy [sp]. She was very sick but is doing better now. If you feel really bad maybe a trip to the ER wouldn't be a bad idea. She got so weak she couldn't stand up, they had to give her oxygen at the school. Not trying to scare you or anything just hope you take care of yourself.

It really seems too early for all of this stuff to be going around. Feel better soon.

Sorry you are feeling so bad Remali. Don't take too much cough medicine tho..Sometimes it is good to cough. Unless it is uncontrollable or if it keeps you awake thru the nite.

Feel better. Get to the doc 1st thing on Monday!!!:)

Thanks Diane.....good idea. I just took one dose earlier today of the cough med, it is OTC Robitussin.
I took a nap today ( I almost never sleep during the day), and that sure helped!

Just the expectorant, or the cough med?

carla
10-25-2008, 07:24 PM
I'm w/ Diane- if you have chest congestion, I'd only take a cough suppressant at night if you need it at all, and an expectorant (or at least a mix of both) during the day. Or I'd just go to the doctor, lol!

You sound like me, though- I've got to be pretty danged sure I can't get by w/out the doc before I'll go!

Gypsy Rose
10-25-2008, 07:29 PM
Cough suppressants can actually do more harm than good, except for helping you sleep. They definitely don't help you get the fluid out of your lungs, lol!

Just the expectorant, or the cough med?

When you cough it is your body's way of getting rid of an irritant.such as mucus in the airways or lungs...If you suppress a productive cough it could possibly lead to bronchitis and/or pneumonia.

Expectorants are good to loosen up any mucus and helps you get it up and out!!

Gypsy Rose

Diane, you explained it better than I just tried to in my previous post- we must have just about cross posted, lol!

That was the reason I asked her, though- I wanted to make sure she wasn't taking the suppressant. I myself get so blocked up that a suppressant will not only make me worse, but stop my sinuses from draining, which then leads to a sinus infection- yuk!

Diane of Buck's Hollow
10-25-2008, 07:43 PM
Ha. I guess we did cross post Gypsy and I wasn't sure you were asking her or me. LOL I always had trouble with my sinuses. The doctor I worked for in Family Medicine would never recommend cough medicines to our patients. Unless, of course, the coughing was just killing them and if it was non productive.

Yep- just blocks everything up- I even have to take a break from my Claritin at least once a week, or I end up blocked up, lol!

I just got home from the ER. after 2 days of not being able to breath I went in. my o2 was down to 83 EEKKk. Did x-ray and I have double lung. I was feeling fine till Monday and I have gone down hill. I refused to stay over night, so I was sent home with a neb machine and anitbiotics!

Mine started with not being able to jog as far as I used too, sore throat, ear ache, then constant wheezing with no relief from an inhaler.
Thing I found to help lossen the crude was a vibrating disk I had a in a neck pillow, I put it on my chest and back and it helps a lot.

That's different- could you explain more about it- is it like a massager?

Thats what it is. You can get them at walmart or the drug store. I put 2 batteries in and lay on it if I can lay down (my lungs fill) and lay it on my chest.
When I worked in the hostpital years ago we did this with some patients. It helps I do it a lot, throughout the day.

Sorry I didn't get back here sooner......the cough med is an expectorant. I don't take it very often and when I do I usually take half a dose. I'm thinking if I don't feel better this evening, maybe I better drag my butt in to Urgent Care.

I would go sooner then later.
I went this morning at 3am. went from pneumonia to DOUBLE lung pneumonia. I can not even lay down. I am cough it up but guess that yucky bug got in there better then I thought.

Welcome to steriod land... I will be a uber B**** for the next week. sighs!

I just got back from the doctor.....she sort of thinks I may have viral pneumonia, told me to just rest, drink a lot of fluids, and take it easy. In case it doesn't get better, and in case it may be bacterial, she did write me out a 'script for antibiotics. Blaaaahhhhhh......I sure can relate to how you feel mustangluver....I hope you get to feeling better soon too!

Thanks you guys! Yes, you bet...I have been resting in bed.....watching TV (my computer desk is in my bedroom so I just popped on here). I have a nice big glass of water so I stay hydrated, and I'm just taking it easy. I' coughing a lot but I didn't take any cough med tonight since I took some earlier today, like everyone said....probably better to just cough and get it over with. I sure am tired tho, geez, I feel like I worked my butt off all day or ran a marathon....but I didn't do a thing all day. Hey, yes, I'll take the $100 too! lol.

Hope you get better quickly Remali. I'm sorry I missed this post until tonight. I had bronchitis as a teenager and tried to play basketball. Big mistake. I can't imagine having the pneumonia instead. Lots of rest yada yada, you know :).
