I apologize as this is my first thread and it's a question. I was at my friend's house and her cat was making a noise like a goose honking. She was just laying on the floor and suddenly she looked like she was in distress and making that noise..why would she make that? I jumped down and petted her trying to figure out what was wrong and she said "it's ok..she does that all the time" Is this a sound for a hairball or is it something more serious??
Sounds like a hairball to me. There is hairball remedy that comes in a tube that can help. Brushing or washing the cat regularly also helps that.

My cat does a weezing/honky noise sometimes after she gets a drink, not everytime but sometimes I think she drinks to fast or something and then she will sit there and make that noise for a while and then go on her way. If she does it for a long time though I give her a treat and I think the swallowing of that helps because she doesn't do it anymore after that but most the time she gets over it on her own. I had her since she was 2 days old though and she has always had a little problems drinking to fast and milk would come out her nose (really scary to see).

I agree.... hairballs... that apparently she was not able to cough up.
And Welcome, a hairball post is not a bad first post to make :)

thanks guys. I'm really not a cat person as I'm allergic to them but I hate seeing any animal in any kind of distress. A hairball would make sense though because just before that she was giving herself a bath. I guess if I would have put 2 and 2 together... I'm glad it's nothing major though. I have to go to the store tonight to pick up some groceries. I'm going to look for some hairball remedie stuff for her. Plus i'll give her a brush too. I'll call it an early x-mas present for her kitty.

There is a hairball remedy called Petromalt. It's in a big tube. Some cats love it and will lick it right off the tube, others need to be sortof force fed it. I take about an inch of it and put it on my finger, and then open their mouth and wipe it onto the roof of their mouth. Watch the teeth and claws once kitty catches on to this trick. ;)

lol I think she's used to being clawed and whatnot. When she got the cat she had to treat her for earmites. The cat was a stray. She wormed her, flea dipped her, and treated her for ear mites. I'm surprised she didn't know about the hairball thing though. I'll definately be picking her up a tube. Hopefully the kitty will take it with no problems..lol

Just wanted to say welcome to the forum, mygirlmaggie.
Nothing more I can add in the way of advice, except that as WB (WashingtonBay) said, that was a very good question to ask, and a good thread topic.
I'm sure everyone on the forum will agree that we're not picky about the questions asked- how else do we learn anything, or get good advice when we need it?
