Job rant

So, I've not been able to find work for what I have a degree in. That's fine for now, I'm more than willing to do other jobs, altho I do have some health issues that prevent me from doing very physically demanding work (heart trouble, had previous surgery for it, and herniated disks in my back). But, I try to keep an open mind and I'll try almost any job, right now I am waiting for this other job to start up shortly, and in the meantime, until they bring on the new employees, I thought I would go out and get a temp job in the meantime......so, this morning I went to this warehouse that needed some extra help. The work itself wasn't bad at all, in fact I enjoyed it, it was prepping the product for shipment and getting it ready to be boxed up. Trouble is..... it was hot in there (I can understand that, it's a warehouse, and I expected it to be warm) but no fans to be had in my area :eek: ....OK, so I just roll up my sleeves and roll up my jeans, no biggie. But then, I learn that we will only get ONE 15 minute break all day long!! :mad: You have got to be kidding me?! What happened to our labor laws in Wisconsin, I can't believe so many employers are pulling this (I actually had a similar experience not all that long ago). I know that, due to my heart condition and the heart meds I take, that I am not physically able to do that. Sure enough, after 6 hours I started feeling faint and light-heaed.....I went into the restroom too cool off and applied cold wet paper towels around my neck and wrists, went back out and tried to continue working.....but, I just couldn't do it. I just can't imagine why any employer would make people work all day with only one 15 minute break..... OK.....I'm done with my rant. :doh:

So, back to the drawing board!

You know.....if I could afford it I'd move to MN tomorrow..... I like it better over there, and there are more, and better paying, jobs over there.....and better labor laws too!

That really sucks, pardon my language! I'm a native Minnesotan and held my breath for the three years I lived in WI waiting to get back here. Are you sure you can't make the move?

**update** I just got a call for an interview tomorrow at one of my very favorite shops! I've got my fingers crossed it works out! Woo hoo! :)

Thanks! It would be a nice job, and fun.....not sure how many hours it is, but I'll find all that out tomorrow.
The computer job I had hoped to get is taking waaaaay too long, they still keep telling me that I will be one of the first to start there....but this has been going on now for a dang month! If they can't get their act together....to heck with 'em!

When I got out of college and couldn't find a job in my major (Accounting) I joined the Coast Guard. Best decision I ever made.

Good luck with the interview! Be sure to ask then about breaks so you know going into it if they are going to only give you one crappy 15 min!

Hmmmm...the Coast Guard......well, I DO live the water! ;) But would they take an old 52 year old bat like me?! LOL. And then of course I can't be gone very long due to my pets (no family to care for them).

Thanks! I know something will come up..... I hope... this job I interview I have today, I have never done this type of work before (store clerk), but this is my very favorite shop, I love it there, and I think it would be such a fun job and a lot easier for me with my health issues. :)

Well, I am back from the interview.....it went well.....but, don't they all, and then nothing comes of it.

I'm getting discouraged. I have found that when I apply for jobs that are not what I went to school for that employers always bring up that I would make much less than what I had previously made.....it doesn't matter to me, I just want a job, but I don't seem to get anywhere...... I am so frustrated. I wish I could afford to move. My area has always been bad for jobs, even in good times, and it has also been the lowest paying area in the state. Soooo...... I don't know.... I am about ready to just give up.....I don't know what to do any more. There are plenty of jobs elsewhere in the state (about 2 hours from me), the trouble is getting there.....I have no money to move right now, and no one to help me move..... :(

Thanks you guys! I sure hope it works out.....it would be a really nice job, and it's only 3 miles from where I live! Gotta love that! The hours sounded great and the work seems nice, and actually rather fun!
