Prayers for Rum Please.......

My daughter had a great day at the show today. Rum got his first blue ribbon.....

He was not himself. Very antsy, pawing the ground alot, not behaving. Which is unusual for him. He was also camping out in the trailer. Beth, the barn owner called about 7 pm to say that Rum did not seem right to her and may be in the early stages of colic.

She said he was in the pasture, was pawing the ground a lot and pacing the fence line. She brought him in and said he just seemed lethargic. She felt he needed to be watched and since she was going out to eat wanted someone there with him.

Called the vet to get him on standby. Go to the barn. Rum had mushy poop with 2 balls around 6:30, was drinking and eating up to that point, but Beth took his hay away. He had good gut sounds, heart rate was 44, no sign of dehydration. Beth did not think he was anywhere near needing Banamine. Called vet back and gave him an update. He recommended walking him and hand grazing for 10 mins, and offered to come out if we needed him. Laurel called and said he is acting fine. Beth said we could give him some hay at 8:30, so Laurel was going to do that and see how he is.

I hope he's ok! That doesn't sound like very much fun at all. I'm glad the show went well though.

Yes the weather has been changing here. I have come to hate the changing seasons now that I have horses. Rum goes through something every time! That is one of the first things I thought of........

I haven't heard anything from Beth overnight. It was so hard getting to sleep. I considered bundling up and camping out at the barn, but I knew Beth would be checking on him and let me know if anything was amiss.

I am so grateful to have a BO who lives on premises. It really makes a difference knowing someone is there and can spot any changes that might indicate something like this. I really appreciate everyone being there for me, thank you.:grouphug:

He is doing fine! Thank goodness we didn't bring him any hay for the show and had a couple of hours where we were walking him. And bless our BO, Beth for being there and noticing that he wasn't "quite right". We really dodged it...........and I think Laurel learned a lesson that when Rum acts like that, he isn't just being a doody head, but that he is trying to tell her something.

My son is in from Asheville to take picts for a photog class he is taking and will be at her lesson today. I wish he would have been there for the show, because we didn't have our cameras but he couldn't make it in time.

Sorry to keep you guys on pins and needles yesterday. Hubby was home so no computer time for me, then I had to wash a weeks worth of laundry so I could go to the laundromat and dry them (our dryer is out) so I was really busy yesterday. Then my son came in to visit from college and we had lots of catching up to do and we all went out to eat. Been quite a while since we did that.......

I cannot thank you enough for all your prayers. I know Rum and my daughter felt them. And having been there on "poop patrol" more than once. I knew exactly what to do and what to expect. This is my first colic scare!
