View Full Version : Drinking out of rubber buckets

Not sure if this is the right place. I had to buy water buckets for the horses for our weekend camping trip. I bought some nice rubber buckets for them. Caspian drank out of his find, but Josey would not touch her water in that bucket. She kept drinking out of her neighbors bucket which was a hard plastic bucket. Is there any reason why she wouldn't drink out of it? Is she just picky? What can I do to make her drink out of it so I can use it next time?

Well, they do sortof smell like a tire. It might give the water a funky rubber taste.

You can try feeding her in that bucket for awhile, see if that gets her over it... or add flavor to the water..

Or, the most sure thing might be to just bring her plastic bucket.... we all have our quirks. :)

put water in said bucket and let it get some algea in it ... I know gross but it works LOL I have a plastic bucket I am doing this too now and it is killing me not to empty it

some of the new buckets have a funny smell to them so when I get them new I gross them out and it takes the rubber smell away a bit

DO NOT USE BLEACH TO CLEAN THEM

I don't use any rubber hoses or buckets for water. They contaminate the water. Have you drank from a commercial quality rubber hose? It's awfull. I actually use RV/Marine hoses approved for drinking water, and plastic or steel water buckets/ troughs.

You do have a point there Walkin... and so does Peggy Sue... New rubber bucket and new rubber hoses have a pretty strong taste/smell... but it does dissipate with time and use.

I love drinking out of a hose, especially a new one after the water has run for a bit.

I love drinking out of a hose, especially a new one after the water has run for a bit.

I always drank out of the hose as a kid and loved it.

Apparently I just have a very picky horse. I decided not to deal with it. I'm going to exchange them for the plastic ones she likes. Spoiled horse!
