I rode him today. I actually felt good about myself getting off of him. (Which hasn't happened in a while) He def has a lot of get up and go but I was able to control it pretty well. I can canter him too! He actually listens when I want him to slow downnnnn.
He is FLYING thru this course that's for sure.

Well that's the important part!
He's a pretty thing, that always helps. :)
So what do YOU think about him?

Overall I think he looks nice. It's hard to tell for sure because many of the jumps are far away or behind another, but he looks a little tough to keep working on his hind end and therefore seems a little flat over some of the jumps, like he's kind of launching over a few of them and not really using himself. He looks better over some others though. I don't know, maybe I'm seeing things.

I'm not sure. He sticks his tongue out! Which is funny but not attractive for the show ring. Showing isn't everything to me tho. Apparently he isn't that easy of a keeper either. He is priced VERY affordable and it's so enticing! Obviously, I'm not going to buy him tomorrow I'm just tossing the idea around in my head and wondering what you all think of him. He was priced pretty high and now is priced dirt cheap which just makes me wonder ya know? Apparently the owner just wants him gone so she can purchase another horse (husbands terms for doing so) but I can't help but think something may be up... (she's even willing to take payments!)

Well as the others have said he does look very strong over fences. The fact that you say his price is cheap all of the sudden is a little odd. Would you be have a pre purchase exam done on him? Usually the tongue sticky out of the mouth thing is from pain or resistance. If a horse has mouth or tongue pain they typically react by pulling there tongue toward the back of his throat. Of course as you can imagine trying to hold your tongue back there is difficult. That's when they try to find another way to avoid the pain by hanging the tongue out of the side of his mouth.

Well, it could be they over-estimated value the first time, and have come to the realization that if they want to sell the horse quicker, they may have to make a deal
I've said before, there's nothing more arbitrary than horse pricing.
The toungue out can be a problem, but it depends.... there's also one of the touring Lippizzaners who sticks his tongue out all the time, and they said he just 'does it'. He's not resisting or unhappy or reluctant, it's just a habit.

Ooohhh I like him! I think he's pretty neat, if you felt confident and good about him.....that's a good sign!
With a good patient rider he looks like he has a lot of potential, and I like that he listened to you and slowed down for you really well.....looks like a fun horse!

my 2 cents you liked him, he made you feel good, he sticks his tongue out (so does Jackson), and you can make payments sounds like its a pretty good deal. so he has issues big deal .... all horses do..........Kevin
A few things about how he moves forward, generally carries himself, turns, and responded to her cues made me think there might be a few holes in his earlier work.

I'm hoping to get vidoe of me riding him. I'll post it once I get it. I would DEF do a pre purchase exam. I'm not willing to buy any horse with out a pre purchase exam. I'll keep you posted.

He looks like a good horse. My concerns were echoed by others. I would probably feel comfortable riding him now, but I don't know if I would have early on.
Looks like he has a mouth like a brick. There's some serious, heavy duty reefing going on there. You rode him though, and if that doesn't matter to you, then it shouldn't stop you. You'll get some nice biceps!

If they are willing to take payments...are they willing to give you a trial period?

hrm they may be willing to do that! good idea on the trial period.
Surprisingly Tiz, I didn't have to pull on him a lot (We weren't jumping either, though)...I've ridden a horse with a brick mouth and for days after riding her my arms were SO soar! I thought they would fall off! lol

Lots of horses get particularly keyed up and on the muscle when jumping a course, the ones that actually enjoy it do. :)
Could be he was just real fresh when they made the video.

Sooo I found out today that he is an OTTB as well! Registerd with the Jockey Club "Caliente" For some reason he is particularly calm with me. He has pretty good ground manners. He falls asleep when I tack him up and besides having to get on to him a bit for being in my space he is one of the sweetest horses I've dealt with. He's 11 years old. Used to be jumped extensively and apparently hasn't ever really been truly cared for. I fall in love with horses too quick. I did get video of me riding him but it's like 2 seconds long and HORRIBLE! :D So I hope to get more video tomorrow. Ironically, he's the first horse I feel safe on while cantering. He got slightly fresh with me but doesn't intimidate me when he does so. Hopefully I'll get some decent video tomorrow or Friday.
(He does this funny thing with his legs (particularly his back) they like lock up or kinda buckle when he's standing there after riding.) ?? I asked what it might be and she suspects he may have some stifle issues.
