Laurel had a horse show yesterday at Averett University which has it Equestrian center in our county so it was a nearby show. Started out raining....every show we've been to this year it has been raining. But at least it was warm.
She had a 1:45 ride time which was nice, no crack of dawn loading. Get there and they are running really late. She did not ride until 3:00. The dressage judge was taking time after every test to speak to the riders and give them comments. Everyone was getting restless. It wasn't a Ride A test for crying out loud.
So the whole time Rum was really antsy, would not stand still when he was tied, and pawing the ground. So we were taking turns walking him and he was not behaving, being pushy, walking ahead, not stopping, etc. Which was really strange for him. We just thought maybe because he didn't have a trailer mate or he didn't have hay. We thought it was going to be a quickie and we would be back at the barn soon so we didn't bring hay, which may have been a blessing in disguise. (see my other thread in the horse health section) Laurel was really crabby too. She was getting upset at Rum for acting up and having to wait that long was tough on her. At one point I was ready to cash it in and head for home. I had just had it with her. But we stuck it out.
So it quits raining, flys come out, Rum is still antsy, but they do their dressage test. Went really well, Rum picked up his leads correctly, which they have really been working on. Change tack, warm up and then the jumping round. They go clean!
Rum got his first Blue Ribbon! This was the same show last year where he got second. so one year from his first show he gets first. He was fine was Laurel was saddled up, he loves his job. She said she can a really big difference in him during the jumping round, she didn't have to push him over the jumps at all, he just took them like they were nothing. So Rum and Laurel beat out the Averett University team for first place. I did a happy dance when I got the results.........so proud of them both.
Get home, get some BarBQ at the firehouse across the street and settle in for a relaxing evening doing some sofa surfing. Nope, get a call from BO that she thinks Rum is in the early stages of colic. So off to the barn we go........well we are thinking now that the poor guy must have been acting up because he wasn't feeling well. Laurel is feeling really bad because she was so tough on him when he was just trying to tell her he wasn't well. We didn't need the vet to come out, Laurel monitored him for several hours and felt he was fine. All his vitals were good, he was relaxed and sleepy. The barn owner was out to dinner but was home later. She was monitoring him as well. I finally got to sleep but had some wild dreams.........restless night to say the least. Sorry no picts, can't locate my camera and Laurel's is out of commission. I was hoping for a new camera for Christmas. May need to get one sooner.
As far as I know now, he is doing fine.
Now on to the Virginia Horse Trials!
