Petra asked me if I could let you all know that she may not be able to post much on the forum for a while. She took a spill off Trigger on Saturday, and has broken both wrists.
I hope she has a speedy recovery, and is able to post here and ride again soon!
Sending healing thoughs your way, Petra!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I know the feeling of being somewhat helpless. I had surgery on both wrists at the same time this spring. I was off work for a while but I didn't miss a day of typing here at the forum. I'm glad to see you are up to the task of typing too!

Thanks everyone. it means a lot to me knowing you are all thinking of me.:grouphug:
my husband and my son are absolutely wonderful. it just sucks when i'm alone. i manage to do quite a bit with my feet. i am completely dependent on my husbabnd as far as my personal care.
i think once the pain goes away i'll be able to use my fingers. i can feel them, it's just too painfull to move them now.
montysgirl, i have no clue what actually happened. i saddled up trigger. got on him asked for trot anbd he started bucking like a rodeo horse. the first buck send me flying over his head. i landed hands frirst. only later i found out from my dh that he was trying to work with him on his days off. said he got bucked off too. nothig happened to him so he didn't tell me about it. wish i knew, i would have worked him in the round pen first to see what's up. trigger has never done anything like this before. he is little stuborn, quite lazy, but very laid back. i haven't seen what was he like with my dh since i didn't even know he was doing anything with his horse.
i'll know more once my wrists heal back up.
vick, i asked my husband to take a picture.:D
i have my xrays too if you want to see.
i got really good in using the mouse with my foot! i even managed to resize the pics lol

:) thanks vick
the bent in my elbows doesn't allow me to reach my neck (that really sucks - especially when there is a mosquito sucking on me and i cannot kill it), but i can scratch my face, not with fingers (they hurt) but I do it with the edge of my cast. yay!
Gypsy Rose

Wow, Petra! That is totally cool how you do that! I can't believe they ran the casts all the way past your elbows, though. Any special reason for that?

To immobilize the two bones in the forearm.... they did it to me too when I broke my arm.
But I only had one ;) The only thing I couldn't do was wash the opposite armpit. I feel for Petra.

lol i was about to say to make my life miserable. but wb is right.
see i can get washed everyting, but what's under my cast...he he i have a very good supervizing skills...my poor husband does things he never even imagined to do...should have seen his face when i said i need a shave lol
My husband fell out of a swing and broke both of his wrists when he was in third grade. It was during the school year, and his sister had to feed him at lunchtime until he got his casts off. Scarred him for life, I'm sure.
It sure gives you an understanding for how lucky it is to have all working parts, doesn't it? Next time, Petra, remember...Tuck and roll!

Petra you are an inspiration [not sure if I spelled that right] I never "met" anyone like you. I couldn't type with my feet if someone paid me! I hope you'll be back to riding real soon, I'm sure you'll surprise the Drs and be riding sooner than they ever expected.
It would be nice to be able to read Trigger's mind to know why he is doing this all of a sudden. He's been doing so good. Take care of yourself, you know we're all thinking about you.

yay! i just came back from a doctor. good news - i don't need surgey. i'm supossed to go back next friday and if the bones stay aliggned as they are now they will just put a casts on me without any surgery. i'll have to wear them for 8 weeks though. the doctor was very impressed with the work they did in emergency room. said that the initial x-ray of my right wrist looked pretty bad; she didn't expect them do such nice job. she already had me scheduled for thursday's surgery. i was very happy to see her cancel it.
thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers everyone! it must have worked! :)

Gosh - I missed this until just now... so sorry to hear about your injuries! I certainly can't imagine what it would be like to have no hands - you poor thing... being that dependent on others would just kill me. Kudos to you for figuring how to type with your feet as that has to help pass the time! I'll be crossing my fingers for a speedy recovery.

yes she does, but i cannot convince my husband to sit me up on her. trust me i ask every day. he looks at me as if i lost my mind.
i cannot climb up with no hands. if i could figure out how to get on i'd be riding every day.
this is going to be such setback in her training. :(

I don't think she's going to forget much, Petra. If anything, it will give her more of a chance to grow into herself, and you may be pleasantly surprised when you can finally ride again. She may need a few reminders, but I'm betting she'll be better than ever!

sometimes the best thing for the young ones is a break, I started Moosa late in his two year old year then turned him out for winter and didn't ride him again until MAy of his 3yo year and I swear he learned from WATCHING the other horses. I know it is killing you but it is not hurting her at all a few reminders and she will be better then ever !!!
If I was close I would come and put you up there :)

Tell him that if he doesn't, that's it for those phenomenal baked goods you make for awhile after you get your casts off. :)
I don't think it will setback your training at all. Crystal will pick right up where you left off.
This time will pass quickly.
The vet is holding your job for you until you can return, I hope?

my poor husband is terrified that i'll get hurt...i think he'd give up on whatever it would take just to keep me safe. i think he was taking my pain worse than i was...it was pure torture for him to see me in pain. he is freaking out when he sees me opening the door with my feet - he thinks i'm going to fall.
i keep asking, but i know he will not change his mind...
thanks for reasuring me about crystal everyone...it did make me feel better. :)
i just miss her so much...
yes! my job is safe...i'm very happy about that.
