Last yr, some of you may remember, I had a new metal roof installed.
Work was 100% guaranteed.
Guy came out once to put some extra screws in then never returned my calls again.
I got tired of calling and getting NO reply so I contacted the Attorney Generals Office.
It took some time to get a reply back from the company as they said they never received the first letter from the AGs office.
I finally got a reply from the AGs office with a response letter from the company, basically calling me a liar. Telling them that he would pursue this matter(he never called me)and threatening me with lawyers.
I was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooo pissed that I couldnt write, nor write back. Heck, I am shaking just typing this out cause it stresses me so much that one could lie then call me the liar, and try to get out of guaranteed work. Its my darn roof, I paid for it to be done RIGHT.
Its a big issue for me. If I lie, I want to be called on it, but dont tell me Im lieing when Im not. Lieing is a pet peeve of mine, I hate it. I try to tell the truth on what I know.
Well, guess what, as I was going through some paper work looking for something else, I found the original estimate, and guess what, it says what work was to be done AND that it was 100% guaranteed. I also found some notes he wrote to me, one was after he was done and came back. In the last note he even said, dont give up on me. Does that sound like someone who is not coming back? I dont think so.
So, whos lieing now.
I am responding back, sending the notes the company left me too.
I do not want him on my roof EVER again, but I do want the repairs done, and if any additional work I want done, Ill pay for it, not what needs fixed from his job.

What a nightmare. I hope you can get it settled. When my father had trouble with his last car he contacted the Attorney General and they got it all settled. Maybe you can try again now that you have all the proof. It is so hard to get anyone you can trust. I could write a book on our last construction job that was done by a so called friend. He won't be doing anything here anymore. The whole thing was so upsetting it's been like 4 yrs and I still don't enjoy the room I wanted so much because of the bad memories of getting it.

Good luck, hope it works out. Metal roofs are so pretty, wish you could enjoy yours rather than have this stress.

Oh, I understand your feelings, of not enjoying the room. One reason I dont like friends to work for me, unless I am not looking for quality work, just something tossed together(usually outside, not my home). I mean, it lets them off the hook if Im not 100% with it, know what I mean?

Thanks, I hope it dosnt take 4 yrs to get the roof taken care of.

Sorry to hear that you are going through all this crap. Remember to only send copies and document everything, even phone calls of who you spoke to, times, dates etc.
Good luck with them and hopefully they will come though.

Do you keep copies of your phone bills? Maybe it lists the calls you made to him?

I wouldnt need the phone list. He said I called many times. Thing is, he never returned those calls.

Be sure to keep the original documents, and mail only copies.

Take pictures of the problems if possible. You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. And do keep a log of all conversations.

I sure hope you can it taken care of. And IF you do talk with this guy on the phone, I would record it. I know we can do that here legally and I have done it on some occassions when I have had to deal with liars. Then I just play back the tape... It puts them in their place real fast!!

I hate it when something like this happens. I try to always save receipts etc. just for that very reason. I bought my daughter's first horse from a local farm and the lady that ran the place was the agent. I paid $4000 for him and all was well for about 2 months. Seems she never gave the money to the owner- a NYC policeman, and worse yet, she told him I never completely paid for him. I got a call from a lawyer and luckily I could fax her all the signed receipts and copies of the cancelled checks so I was off the hook.

Don't give up, that's what they are trying to make you do by threatening you and ignoring your communications, just give up and that lets them off the hook. If you have the proof, they will have to make good on the roof. I would also tell them that you will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as tell every one you know not to use them.
