Whats a chupacabra
the name literally translates to goat sucker, a mythical "monster" that destroys livestock. Gets blamed for the deaths of a lot of stock esp in South Texas. this is about the 3rd report of one in the last 6 or 8 months. Peyton its funny you said that because the last one was exactly that a coyote w/ mange...............Kevin

My wife has a hard enough time with mounted deer heads. I'd like to see the look on her face when I brought one of "those" home.:p

We have a coyote that my dad shot in Alabama mounted at our hunting camp. He has to stay outside because he stinks. But if he were hairless, he'd look exactly like that thing. Maybe I'll shave him and take a pic :p.

I saw that yesterday on yahoo as well. Some comments that were made also suggested a type of hairless dog. Other comments were a dog with mange, as well as thoughts on the intelligence of the captors.

This isn't the first time. Someone down the road from me shot an animal last year that they claimed was a chupacabra. It had come into their yard where their small children were. Of course it was on the local news and I took one look and told my in-laws and husband that it was a coyote with a severe case of demodectic mange. They sent of samples to A&M for DNA testing and that is exactly what it was.

This new one is either a fox or a small coyote again with mange. I didn't get a really good look at it because they didn't show any photos from good angles.

People have to remember that just because "I've never seen anything like this before" doesn't mean that someone else hasn't. That's usually the what everyone says---they haven't seen it before so it must be something new. Well, most of us haven't seen a HUGE chunk of what the world has to offer so it's not uncommon for us to see something we've never seen before but for it to be something completely normal and common in the world.

Oh my goodness, what a pitiful looking thing. RocknK, I'm with your wife---NO dead animals on the walls of the house.

I used to work next to a guy who did the "monster hunting" thing. He was older and could spin a great yarn about all his adventures. He's hunted Big Foot, Abominable Snowman, all those. He said they never could get any cold hard facts. The witnesses when threatened would admit they were either making it up to cover up falling asleep while sheep watching or it was a animal like this one who just has a case of mange. It was fun to listen to him talk, though. :D

I remember when the show Unsolved Mysteries did a feature on chupacabra--only at that time they were mostly seen in Puerto Rico--and the description of them then was of a more upright creature with glowing red eyes. They must be mutating! Just as well...we haven't had any up here yet, though I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they migrate further north and across the border...an ugly dog like creature with no hair is one thing, an upright creature with glowing eyes. <shudder> That would be too much for me!
