Sooo... if I'm not on much this weekend- that's why! :(

You'll do great! :) Mine was a breeze overall, compared to how doomed I just *knew* I was (all four impacted BIG TIME as well).. aside from the run-in with the Vicodin in the beginning. But once I got that out of my system I was good to go.

Let's see.. I think staying upright for a few days helped me a lot, especially with swelling. I slept either on the couch with a few pillows, or in the recliner.

Definitely no smoking/straws, like Kevin said. But if you do get sick and throw up, don't stress.. I made it through that without dislodging any clots. :)

When you start your saltwater rinse (probably tomorrow afternoon), resist the urge to swish.. just tilt your head from side to side and let gravity do the work. It's much more comfy/safe that way.

Yep, syringe-clean the empty holes, but not until the seventh day.. you'll be AMAZED at how much of your food gets packed in there! LOL I joked that was why I was still hungry after eating.. none of it made it to my stomach!

Just-warm broth is your friend, as well as any soggy saltines you may put in it. ;)

Pancakes were good on day two or three for me, too.

Good luck, and let us know how you're doing!

Definitely no smoking....

She better not be doing this anyway! She'd have her Uncle JackieB on her case like you wouldn't believe. :)

I have to have oral surgery on Tues. I am a nervous wreck, not wisdom teeth just regular ones but the roots are curved so they won't come straight out. I'm terrified of getting knocked out, I'm terrified of bleeding, infection and everything else. I have an infection, got anti biotics had an allergic reaction, got different ones and my intestines can't tolerate them so I'm stopping them. Then she said the infection can travel if not taken care of so that has me scared. I hope I'm alive after Tues. Can we tell I'm scared 1/2 to death.

Hope yours goes real smoothly, a friend had it done last week and sailed through it all so that should make us feel better, I just have alot of phobias especially of dentists, my dentist actually wrote that on the paper work for the surgeon....PHOBIC. Makes me feel so special. Let us know how it went, I'll be waiting to hear! My friend was told no riding for a week but she was back riding after 2 or 3 days, nothing hard just walking. The only thing that really bothered her was some swelling that went down pretty fast. I don't think mine will be as bad since the teeth are there they just have to be pulled out, my friend needed actual surgery. GOOD LUCK.

Oursarge.. my 82-year-old Granny had a molar pulled just last week, and she did wonderfully.. wasn't knocked out, so you should do even better.

Have you ever been put to sleep? I hadn't before my extraction, and was pretty freaked out about it, but it was nothing. Kinda neat, actually..

I've always hated going to the dentist, I leave nail marks in her chair! I was only knocked out when I had my tonsils out when I was 6 and I remember being real sick after so I've been a wreck. My cousin said it's not bad, not scary but I seem to be scared of anything medical! Thank you for the support, I hope that I can stay calm and get through it. I wish they could have done it that day then I wouldn't have had to have to think about it for a week!

Hugs to you :grouphug:! I hope things go well. :) I've not had mine out yet, knock on wood. Dentist told me I've got two top ones but that's it, and they may have to come out because I have a smaller framed mouth. But knock on wood, so far they are okay. Just as soon as I say that something will happen. lol :p

Hope all goes well and keep us updated!
Take Care of yourself too! :)

Don't worry guys- no smoking for me. :)
It went okay for the most part- the sedation was *so* weird... I just remeber freaking out about the needle, then getting a little dizzy, and then I was awake in some other room, lol. :p I was sort of out of it for a while. :innocent:
I got sick from the pain meds (I forget what they're called... starts w/ an "h" & ends w/ codine?) last night, though. It was horrible! My dad had to run to the store to get some more gauze. :o
Doing better today, though. It's just really hard to eat/ talk 'cause I can't really open my mouth much. And my head's kinda huge, but I took a lot of ibuprofen so the pain isn't too bad. Thanks for the tips, everyone!

So happy you made it through, did they give you hydrocodone [sp] I think that is strong stuff. I am dreading having to go, if she didn't scare me about the infection I'd skip it. I worry about getting knocked out and the pain after [I can't take Ibuprofin] I do have Tylenol with Codeine I take for headaches, hopefully that'll be strong enough for the pain. When I had my teeth out the regular way I didn't need any pain meds at all, it never hurt but since the roots are curved on these teeth I'm nervous. Mine are not impacted or wisdom teeth so I don't think it'll be as bad but I'm still scared and most scared I'll need anti biotics since they make me so sick. Glad you lived through it, hope I do!

Glad things went well! I hope things continue to go well.
My dad is allergic to codine basically. He can't have it or things get real messed up. So he had to have other pain meds.

Glad things are good though, hope ya get better real soon! :)

Sorry I missed this thread too! How are you feeling? If you aren't able to eat so well try some slim fast...it doesn't taste the greatest but it gives you the energry you need and coats your stomach. :) I would have given you a few other tips before the surgery but I'm sure you're doing fine now.

lol JackieB knows how much I love teeth ;)

Whew! Horseaholic is here now, so you're in great hands, doc. She loves to help people take good care of their teeth. You just ask her anything you want and she'll help.

Seriously, one thing she can help you avoid are dry sockets. I don't even know what dry sockets are, but I know they are to be avoided if at all possible.

oursarge- yeah, that's the stuff. my parents said it's pretty much vicoden, lol. I'm sticking w/ the ibuprofen, even though it's not working the best, but there's noooo way I'm taking the other stuff again! And you'll do fine, don't worry. Just make sure you have some food in your stomache before you take the antibiotics (if you need them), it'll help. :)

Yeah, I've heard about them, I dunno really what they are, either.

Thanks Gypsy, Annie, Pandora, JackieB & Horseaholic! :) It still hurts quite a bit, but the swelling's down & I can eat/talk a bit better now, lol.

Dry sockets, quite simply, are when the gum tissue does not heal over the bone completely...therefore leaving your bone exposed which is VERY sensitive and painful.

No spitting! ;) Blood clots are a good thing. They promote healing and keep everything covered. If you keep spitting the blood out of ur mouth your spitting out that clot and continue bleeding. (Which I assumed you aren't still bleeding or you would have mentioned it ;) ) However, a little blood on your pillow is normal.
