I am very nervous. I have been a stay at home mom for 3 1/2 years with my two kids. I just happened upon a job posting at our local library (was on their site looking up playgroup info and clicked job opprotunities). It's for Library Assistant and it's only 12 hours a week. It's one night during the week (library is only open until 8 p.m.) and then alternating weekends. And the pay is good. Really, really good. And I love books.
I went in today and picked up the application and started filling it out. I'm so lost! It took me forever trying to remember all my past work experience. I am also in the middle of updating my resume (HELP!!) and writing a cover letter.
The deadline is on Friday, Sept. 11th, so I have to get moving. Wish me luck! It would be the perfect job since we wouldn't have to pay for daycare too.
Wish me luck! I'm sure I could use it being out of the workforce for so long!

I'm sure you'll do great. :)
I had barely any work experience (none if you don't count babysitting as a job) and I got my first real job as a veterinary surgeon's assistant. I work 40+ hours a week now making about $1 over minimum wage per hour. It's gets hard sometimes, but my job is satisfying. :) Especially when the pet comes back for a recheck and is looking much better.

i don't know how much experience you have with typing up a resume. if it would be any help to you i could pm you mine so you have at least something to go by. let me know if it would be any help to you.
as far as the cover letter - try to do as much research about the place as possible. write down what you like about the place and why you would like to work there. let them see you did your homework and really want the job. tell them why you think they shouold hire you.

Thanks guys. I spent last night talking with my husband's brother who is very experienced with all things job related. He does the hiring where he works, so he helped me with my cover letter and resume. Thank goodness he said it did alright, we just tweeked it a bit.
So I'm hoping that I get an interview.
I know it's only 12 hours and I might be making a big deal about it, but I really think this would be a nice way for me to get out there and a foot in the door.
