Went to a gymkhanna this weekend and rode a Clydsdale!

It was a busy weekend. On Saturday I took my little cousin to her second gymkhanna. I let her ride my horse, Poppy. I took Blue just to get him used to the commotion since I want to show him soon. The water truck spooked him a little at first and he bucked a little in the warm up ring but other than that he behaved himself very well. I did poles and barrels on Blue just for fun. He doesn't really see the point of running around poles and barrels so I had a tuff time even getting a trot out of him, lol.

A friend of ours had her clydsdale there just having fun like me and we switched horses in the practice arena for a little while. I've never ridden a draft before and wow! It was so smooth and I felt like I was sitting on top of a mountain, lol. All the kids at the gymkhanna had fun watching the clydsdale run poles and barrels. It was very entertaining.

Here are a couple of pictures. I was the only one who brought a camera and only had a chance to snap a couple of pictures. Once I tacked Blue up I had my hands full with him and helping Leah out and didn't get to take anymore pics.

Wonderful pictures! And I will admit - I'm so jealous! I want to ride a Clydesdale (or some draft horse)! But how very cool; I'm happy for you. It looks like a fun day!

No, she had two on. I had to go back and look at the picture, I was thinking, did one fall off and we didn't notice? :rolleyes: No, in the action shot you can kind of see it but the angle of her leg hides most of it.

It was only Leah's second gymkhanna and it is the end of the club's "show season" so we just ran time only's at the end. We didn't really pay attention to other people's time to compare it. My friends and I just compared our own times against each other. Between me, Leah and my two friends Leah and Poppy were hands down the winners! Next year I think Leah wants to join the club and do this seriously but for now we're just having fun and getting her used to the gymkhanna scene.

Oh yeah, and being on that clydsdale is high in the air. She is 18.1 hands!:eek: You should have seen me trying to lift my leg high enough to get it in the stirrup, lol! I gave up and had to use the fence to climb up.:rolleyes:
