View Full Version : Video of me and Monte

I had my trainer look at Monte and she said he looks a lot better and is only a little off. So the shoes did help. I still have to get pad on him. So that is a good thing.
Here is a video of me riding Monte. Please do not judge my riding. I look silly and this is a lesson. If you want to suggest something that is fine. All we were working on was trying to get Monte to trot and to stay trotting. Working on leg yield and neck reining. Ok here is it. I almost did not put this on because I look silly, like I have not idea how to ride. I am a trail rider not an arena rider.
here is a picture of his feet. Not good ones but all I had chance to take.
Do they look long? I know I need better ones.

I think you need a sports bra. You have a decent seat at times. I don't know why you are riding him 2 handed because that seems to throw you off balance wise. Looks like a nice horse!

The shoes would make any horse lame. The farriers in your area are not the best, thats for sure. I think the shoes are too small for one thing, lets ask the hoof experts.

I dont think a sport bra would help. plus you are suppose to be looking at the horse not my boobs.;) He does not neck rein. We are working on that.

Miracle Whip

Yeah but the motion of your chest IS affecting your seat. I mentioned it because you thought you were riding badly that day, and you aren't. Used to be larger lady at work and she walked on her tip toes she was so off balance. Monte sure seems relaxed, if you were riding poorly he'd be having an attitude.

Maybe try moving your hands BACK more? And turning your shoulder?

I'll shut up before I get in trouble.

I think you're right he's only a little off, but off enough that I'd not work him till he's got the pads and is more sound. You'll get there with your riding on him! I think you're doing just fine :)

Ok thanks. I felt like I was showing or something. I am usally more relaxed. Monte is very quiet. That is why I like him. He does better on the trails and moves right along. Did anyone notice a head bob?

Today we only worked on walking over the tarp and having the water noodle. I was wondering if I should go with a pad or that silicone stuff they put in their hoves?

FW,
I see that he's not bad but yes, every once in a while he is off. I'm sure the pads and time will take care of this.

As for the direct reining and teaching him to neck rein is a simple fix and I'm sure your trainer will help you with that.

As for all the other nonsense (PP/MW) stuff, just disregard ignorance!!!

Miracle Whip

You should post pictures of the hooves for the farriers. I didn't think that was the right size shoe for him. Can't help on the pads.

Pepper is a wonderful spice. So is Ginger. I waited a long time to come back on this forum(due to technical difficulties) and believe me, fighting with you, or reading your nasty comments WAS not what I was thinking about!!

WashingtonBay

FW (ignoring the noise) What's good about your riding is you're nice with your hands, you're not in his face for balance, and that shows good trust in him.

He doesn't head-bob consistently, but if the lameness is in both front feet, he won't. He'll just be reluctant, which he is, and once in awhile he makes a particularly ouchy step and bobs from it. I think he's trotting 'carefully' still.

You know what, cameras make me tense. Every time. I suddenly become so self conscious and stiff I look horrible, every time. At least I think I look worse than usual. I can't really test the theory without, well, a camera ;)

I'd leave that up to the comfort level, skill and advice of the farrier you have out. He may have his own opinion on that.

Joey A

Can't watch video on dial-up, but as far as pads... No silicone or equi-pak, these products are made to support the sole and make it weight bearing. You want just a pad with soft packing to keep the dirt out. You want to isolate not incorporate the sole.

I'm telling you... comondere some "White Castle" pads.

He's a nice horse, I know it's hard to sit the trot, I always end up posting.....even when riding western.

I wonder tho (attn: farriers?!), does the left front hoof have enough heel? Looks as if he needs more heel on that hoof, but heck, I am definitely no expert.... Also, it appears he may have rings (ridges) on that hoof also?

FW, I think you ride him just fine! You look good and quite relaxed, so does he. He is such a nice horse and to be quite honest, I didn't really see any "offness" consistently. You can see he seems to take short strides which could indicate that he's hurting some but I think with a bit of time and some help from the farrier, he'll be good as gold!

FW, My opinion Shoes look small. But he is not hurting like he was. I would get the pads on and keep riding him.

Thanks everyone. I really like Monte and want to do what is best for him to get him better. I have been trying hard to keep my hands still and sit up. I just posted this so you can see how he looks and that he is getting better.

Peggy Sue
09-17-2009, 06:01 AM
I sent PM to you

on keeping your hands still if you give him a hair more rien and bring your arms back a bit it will help

Sitting up comes with time and the hint I gave you in PM you can post in open IF YOU want

I see him taking "off" steps not head bobbing lame like I thought, good job catching that he was off PERIOD most people wouldn't have noticed it when it is that slight

natisha
09-17-2009, 06:17 AM
I think he looks off too, more so on tighter turns. Do you have any boots you could try until you get pads on him?
He looks like a WP trained horse, like Peggy Sue suggested try to put more drape in your reins, he seems to slow when bumped accidently.
Your riding looks fine & so do your boobs ;)

09-17-2009, 08:22 AM
He looks like such a nice horse--I can't believe how much he looks like my SONY!! I agree that he looks like he could be a western pleasure horse. I hope he continues to get better--he looks like a great horse for you, FW!

Dakota Sunrise

I agree with the others, I think Monte looks off too. I don't see a lot of head bobbing going on, but it seems like he's taking kind of short strides and being a little hesitant.

As for your riding, I think you're being too hard on yourself! My riding looks very similar when Beauty is doing her rough trot. She's such a forward mover and it's so bouncy! So I know how you feel. I just concentrate on sitting deep and keeping my legs long and heels down, and that helps me quite a bit.:) Overall I think you have a good seat and hands- like WB said, you're not pulling on his face for balance and that's really good. So yeah, I don't think you look silly at all and you're doing fine!:) Don't worry!

Remali
09-17-2009, 10:10 AM
Another thing to keep in mind too.... once Monte's soreness issues are resolved he'll want to take longer strides and he'll be more relaxed, so he will be a lot smoother for you too, and easier to ride. I think you look fine!

09-17-2009, 02:23 PM
Looking good there!! :) I wanna come on Sunday. Not sure if I can yet, but I want to. I'll let you know. I'd love to watch Monte move. Did you ever get a hold of the other farrier for the pads? Darn farriers need to call you back.

farmers_wife
09-17-2009, 02:49 PM
I might be a little hard on myself. My trainer said that once he is feeling better he might want to move better and not keep stopping. I think he would be a nice WP horse because he is so slow. LOL
SWMS I called another farrier so hopefully he will get back to me. I have not been riding him. Well I jump on him bareback and ride him from the pasture which is right in front of my house.

Ok, my 2 cents. He looks good for the most part, and yes at times he does seem off, but not bad over all.
I hope the pads help.

As far as the bra comment, well, after seeing a vid of myself riding, I now wear a more secure bra when riding. I am thinking of spending the extra money on a fancy sport bra that dosnt give me ONE boob...LOL

I rode for years without one. Till after my first English lesson and 1 hour of nothing but trotting. I went and got one the next day. ;) An I am not very endowed either.

He does look a little off. I would take it easy on him till you get his pads.

I just seen one thing my trainer would be screaming at me about bend your arms at your elbows. Other then that you looked great for your first lesson with Monte. Your trainer is quiet my trainers barks orders the whole lesson.

Actually I'm in the dark here. I didn't watch the video, remember? I'm on dial-up. I can watch some you-tube stuff on my phone, but your's wasn't one of them.

Although, sadly... Yes, I usually do pay attention to the horses. Apparently when I'm with a horse I'm oblivious to everything else. I remember this specific occasion I was riding with a lady-friend (you know the platonic type) and she made a rather "aggressive suggestion" that I didn't catch on to until I got home.

My husband is usually clueless when it comes to that stuff, I guess I should be happy. He works at our friend's tack sales and there is always a girl there we call "Cowgirl Hooker" [We have since found out "She" is a man dressed like a woman!!!! OH WELL] and he never noticed her 'til I basically had to pick his head up and turn it so he saw her. He just doesn't notice things and she [he] is SO HARD to miss but he missed her at so many sales 'til I made him see her [him]. When we found out "she" is really a man we were shocked, not him, he said nothing surprises him anymore. If she was a car he'd notice her right off but he never notices other things. I have bought some new things for the house and he still hasn't seen them!!!! Wonder if I could sneak another dog in without him realizing it?! Probably not. Reminds me of one episode of the Osbournes when they had 2 cats that looked alike and Ozzy thought it was the same cat and I'm not sure if they told him any different. Some men just don't notice, my friend hides horses, they have so much land and so many horses if there is one she really likes but he doesn't like it and wants to sell it she'll hide it 'til he forgets about it then she'll work it and get it going good and he'll wonder where they got that nice horse!!!!
