I used Hazel and Vicor as models to show off our bargain hunting prizes!
First up is Hazel modeling the Gorgeous double bridle we found! Aweseom quality and very very well made! Hazel is the only one of our crew that has ever worn a double bridle so she was reluctantly the model.

After Hazel modeled it as a double, I took off the extra pieces put on my KK bit and saddled up Mr. Vic...
The saddle is a 18" close contact Prix De Nations that I found for sooo little money it was like we stole it! :-D

Vicklynn,
they use double bridles in higher level dressage, I think they start at 2nd or 3rd level with teh doubles, I'm not sure which level it begins to be "legal". We don't really nee a double it was just WAY too good of a bargain to pass up! Plus maybe I will get that fair with Vic! *cough cough* :hysterical:

Oh ok, cool! See how much I know about dressage..lol..I love the look, but have no knowledge. The closest I ever see of it, is Myst when she is free lunging.
Mr. Vic is very beautiful. I love that gear on him, it looks great.

Double bridles are used in upper level dressage...
They are also used in Saddle Seat; Arabs, Saddlebreds, NSHs, Morgans and the others of that type.

Sorry... I didn't mean to double-answer about double-bridles :)
Just for conversation, the bridle and bit you have is what they'd use in dressage... For saddle-seat the bridle leather and reins would be thin little dainty things, the thinner the better, flashy noseband and browband, and usually loooooooong shanks.
Me schooling on my little Arab stallion in high school, saddle seat, double bridle.

Very nice modeling Vic and Hazel lol. The tack looks really nice!
Yes, double bridles are used in Dressage. They are required for upper level FEI tests (Prix St. George, Grand Prix) and are optional for 3rd and 4th level. It has bradoon (a thin snaffle) and then a Weymouth (curb type) bit so yes there it two bits and 4 reins.

Heh... well, there are also bridles called Pelhams that are just one bit, two sets of reins... just to muddy the water. You may have seen both in use before but not noticed the difference.

Just to confuse you more, Vicklynn:D, a pelham uses one bit and two sets of reins like you described. I'll see if I can dig some pics or drawings up to show the difference.

Indeed, and may again... I found a picture in my folder from the traveling Lippizan show, though it's not super clear. Middle horse is in a double bridle, the one on her left is in a Pelham.
