Nope don't get them..mainly because I hate needles and because even if you get the shot a side effect is possibly getting a mild flu..so like wth? lol

My kids get it yearly, but I don't. I'm not sure this year--I don't know if there's a regular flu vaccine available, or just the swine flu.

absolute BS, with the old vaccine from years ago this was a possibility. This was due to the fact it was a "dead virus" vaccine (which is a bit of a misnomer since viruses are technically not living). when these "dead" viruses were injected, the body created antibodies to the virus based on the markers on these viruses, these antibodies are known as memory lymphocytes. When the body is exposed to the virus these memory cells are activated due to recognition of the markers. The drawback to this was if you were sensitive to a particular strain of the virus the "dead " virus could cause a mild flu. Now with the NEW vaccine no viral component is in the vaccine, it is a synthesized version of the marker, that develops the memory lymphocytes. Now you can develop some mild flu like symtoms the fatige and achiness are the most common. But it is most certainly NOT the flu.....Kevin

I never have gotten the shot and it's probably been 10 years, or maybe even more, since I've gotten the flu.

I'm not in a real high contact situation with lots of people, any more... except of course, over the interwebs...:)

Over here, they've started giving swine flu vaccines already :). Is it worth getting it if I've already had swine flu? I never get the normal flu shot, and I've got a cold at the moment from surfing without a wetsuit in 0*C weather. My fault though xD.

I work in a nursing home and we are required to get the shot. I don't think I had a flu shot last year (was not employed) and I had the flu so bad I ended up in the hospital, severely dehydrated with uncontrollable diarrhea. If you can afford the shot then you might as well try it, for $24.99 you can get it at Hy-Vee and $25 costs less than missing a day of work or visiting the doctor.

No you already have the H1N1 antibodies, you might wanna ask you Dr. if you should get the "regular" flu shot..............Kevin

After somewhat recovering from what I highly suspect was the pig flu I suggest get the shot! The reason I didn't go to the Doctor was I told my wife ifn' I'm gonna die, its gonna be right here in my own bed & not in some Drs waiting room. When I ran out of Nyquil I briefly considered putting a bullet in my head! Side note, if it says on the package "compares with Nyquil" don't believe it. Like comparing moonshine to Crown Royal.

My husband and the kids get a flu shot every year with no fail and no repercussions from the shot. This is my first year getting one since 1994 (very bad experience then) but nothing this year knock on wood!!!
We get ours at Walgreen's which is free under our insurance.

We will also be getting the h1n shots when they come out in Oct.

My son gets one every year and so do I, because of the nature of my job.
We have not decided about swine flu this year, because of what is supposedly in it. I need to do some research there.

I think we must have gotten a bad batch in our area then cause several people I know that got the shot got sick. Not just the fatigue and aches but the fever and vomiting too.

I don't get the shot.

My mom used to make my sister and I get it when we were young. Then when I was an athlete we got them for free and were "highly encouraged" to take advantage. Now that I'm diabetic, I'm supposed to get it every year. I actually skipped last year and was ok, but I don't think I'm going to try that again this year...

Nope. I did once take the seasonal flu vaccine after making sure it was a) not from a modified live virus, and b) did not have the additive squalene. I will not be taking either the seasonal flu, or the H1N1 vaccines this year.

According to a press release dated July 13, 2009 ( and pasted below) . The World Health Organization declares that the H1N1 vaccine is "new technology that has not been extensively evaluated for safety in certain population groups" AND, even more disturbing, that they are "promoting production and use of vaccines such as those that are formulated with oil-in-water adjuvants and live attenuated influenza vaccines. . ." .

The oil is water adjuvant - other wise known as squalene - was used with Gulf Veterans, where hundreds of thousands developed serious neurological side effects, including death. Here is a passage from investigative reporter Gary Masamoto, whose book "Vaccine A" documents the facts:

. . .In 1978, the Pentagon began developing an anthrax vaccine of unsurpassed safety and purity. Soon, however, military scientists learned that their new vaccine, though pure, was also ineffective. To remedy this they added an oil called squalene—an "adjuvant"—to stimulate the immune system. What the scientists didn't know, but should have known, is that squalene causes autoimmune diseases: chronic and even life-threatening diseases like lupus erythematosus, crippling arthritis, and multiple sclerosis. Matsumoto reveals that even very recently, squalene-laced "vaccine A" continues to be secretly injected into Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel. Should these vaccines become widely used, Matsumoto predicts, we should expect a man-made epidemic of unprecedented size . . .

More about this important book here. http://www.vaccine-a.com/book.html

What follows is the World Health Organizations HINI alert from July 13, 2009. It expressly says that an oil based adjuvant will be used in the HINI vaccine. What will happen to the children, once our schools are turned into immunization clinics?

I've never gotten a flu shot ever. I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea for me though, considering whenever I get sick I always get it way worse the most other people. Even when it's just the common cold, my brother and parents will get it and be over it and back to normal within a week, but it always sticks with me for at least two weeks, and my symptoms are always worse. I've been like that my whole life- when I get sick (and it's not that often) I get really sick. Weird.

It was mandatory in the army and now I work in a hospital. Also, when we fly we are in very close quarters so I get the shot. I don't recall ever being sick from a flu shot.

Nope! Wont be getting the regular flu vaccine or the live virus h1n1 vaccine. Totally against both, and I work in the healthfield and in NY they are trying to make both mandatory. I just got bloodwork yesterday to check and see if I have an egg allergy (which I think I may have). If that's the case all my doc has to do is sign a form and I am ok. Otherwise, they are saying we can't come back to work after Nov. 30th if we don't get vaccinated which I am so furious about! Alot of nurses, etc. are contemplating leaving their jobs because of this. It should be your choice to get the shot or not.

I've always been anti-meds and much more into holistic cures!

I've always been anti-meds and much more into holistic cures! I had heard of the mandatory vaccination. Do you think they could really do it? Even if 1/4 of staff refused that would put your staffing levels dangerously low, probably worse than if people were out due to illness. It will be interesting to see what happens.

I've only had the flu once in my life, and I was down for the count for a week. I have seen people go to work and complain that they have the flu. NO THEY DON"T. If they had the flu they wouldn't be able to pick their head off the pillow much less go to work. I travel a LOT and I got a flu shot this year. I missed last year but I've been fortunate I guess not to catch anything. I'm just waiting on the swine flu vaccine which will be out this week I understand. I'll be in line for mine.

Ragnar Danneskjold

I don't get flu shots, mainly because I don't seem to catch the flu either, so I don't bother. It's been many years since I've had anything that seemed like the flu. Colds every now and then, and that stupid travel crud that I picked up in Vegas... but nothing that really lays me out on my back.

I'm not anti-meds or anti-vaccines. I think they do a lot of good for a lot of people. I just don't worry about the flu. I think much of the talk of people that get the flu after taking the shots... is that they've simply caught a different flu from the one they got the shot for. There's lots of flu viruses out there, and every year they (whoever they are) does some estimates of which virii are the most likely to be the most common flu that year... and develop the vaccine for that. But it's still a crap-shoot. It doesn't necessarily stop one of the other ones.

yeah I meant to include that in my rant yesterday, and like sundays man said most people who come to work complaining about the flu dont have it, they have a cold...interesting side note do you know how many viruses modern medicine has developed a cure (not a vaccine ) for?
