What the heck is up with this. Finally shirts are being made longer to cover crack butts because pants sit so low at the waist (short rise jeans) Now today I have bosumage busting out everywhere on the girls!!!!!!!!!!!!! COVER THAT STUFF UP!!!!!!
I am so tired of 4 inches of clevage showing on this kids in jr. high. The high school is even worse. We do not need to share the wealth on this stuff.
Don't even get me started on jeans that cost $100 but have the rips, tears and wear marks already in them. So then they pick at the stuff and make a huge hole, usually in a not so great place.
GRRRR
Thanks for listening to me rant.

I know what you mean about fashions, but I unfortunately I think you can say that for every generation. I look at my mom's pictures from the 70s, 80s, and even some of the 90s and just laugh. Fashion is an odd thing and most young people don't find it ridiculous until their older and have children and look back at the photos saying, "Well that was the style back then..."
As for the shirts, yeah they can get really bad, but really not in my neck of the woods. Right now I see more flannel shirts being worn appropriately because of the amount of buttons. But I have seen quite a few girls who look like they could stand on street corners, at my school its usually the freshman and as they get older they get a little more modest. As for the jeans, yeah that is completely insane, I never buy jeans with holes and tears in them, if I want them heck I can do it myself with sand paper or just being my typical clumsy self. Usually I pay the typical 20 buck jeans from Kohls, they work just as well and I can never see myself spending 100 dollars on pants.

Going to Catholic schools my entire life I never had the opportunity to wear anything but a uniform to school. My grade school and high school is extremely strict about the uniform code. And they have gotten stricter about what can be worn on out of uniform days.

because pants sit so low at the waist (short rise jeans)This.
Unfortunately, unless I constantly wear a belt, no matter what style of jeans I wear, they end up halfway down my butt; because jeans that fit my waist will normally end around mid-calf and jeans that fit my legs have 6 to 8 inches between my hips and the waistband. :(
But yeah, I don't like it when you can see someone elses underwear. Especially if it's a thong. Just so wrong.

Grunge- I look at what I wore in the 80's & 90's and while it was weird I was not spilling out of my shirts. Funny thing is some of those fashions are coming back into style, neon colors, sneaker styles, skinny jeans.
I just wonder what their parents are thinking buy them this stuff and letting them dress this way.

Very good point, and yeah it's weird how history or fashion in this case seems to repeat itself. I think some parents honestly just don't care, which is quite sad. Some others probably don't want to get in the arguments with their kids, others don't want to be seen as the "bad guy", and the rest have the attitude of "that's how girls dress these days" or "everyone else is doing it". It's sad really, and I see your point TLC. Responsible grown women don't dress this way, yet 13 year old girls are.

O poor Vick. That is so gross. I work at a water park over the summer and I can't tell you how many guys take that "style" and apply it to their boxerless swim trunks....my manager always yells at them, "hey don't you know crack kills."

I've never been known as a fashion expert, my favorite clothes, 70's, 80's and beyond, Tee shirts and jeans for summer, flannels and jeans for winter. Only difference is the flare of the jeans, most of the time. I like the low rise, I have never had hips and they fit me better. But I wear a shirt the appropriate length to cover all skin.

I'm with you Tates. Tank top and jeans in summer, flannel or sweater and jeans in the winter. Unless I really want it to nothing shows.
I like the longer shirts because it evens me out, but I am annoyed at them being too low cut. I really don't have much cleavage period, but I hate when shirts go to low. The only people who are attracted to that kind of thing aren't the kind of guys I want to attract.

I guess I'm lucky. My son is 13 and doesn't care for the crazy fashion. He has no need to show his undies. Regular jeans and simple shirts from his karate school are his favorite.

I will admit - I have a confidence boost when a shirt I wear makes "the girls" look nice. And I'm not trying to attract anyone - already caught someone. :D
I do try to dress for the occasion though. If we're going to a family thing, I'm not going to wear a shirt that's lower cut and I'm going to try and cover up my tattoos. If I'm going out with friends, I'm going to dress a little more for bar hopping or whatever.
The low-cut jeans thing.....that's a toughy. On the one hand, I think the jeans that are cut to sit basically right at the crotch are ridiculous. But on the other hand, if you're built similarly to me, it's darn near impossible to find a pair that seem to fit right....that aren't either too low or too high. I don't want to look like a prostitute but I also don't want to look like I'm wearing the proverbial "mom jeans." :p And unfortunately, I've yet to find too many pairs out there that wear somewhere in the middle of those two extremes....
I've taken a real liking to the longer cut shirts because I can get away a bit more with jeans that don't want to sit where they're supposed to. LOL. Still an obnoxious problem to have....and yes - I do wear belts!

Eleven- Gap has some NICE mid-waist jeans. They don't sit at your pubic bone and they aren't above your hip bones (mom jeans)
Hey I will admit I dress different for work then I do when I hop on my Harley and head for a ride. BUT- it is the under 18 that have the "girls" showing for all to see and the pants sitting so tight and low I can tell exactly what they are wearing for undies.
Thanks for not making feel like an old prude about this........ LOL;)

The most baffling thing about the low rider tight jeans is I've never seen a girl they are flattering on. Lots of really pretty girls, they make them all look either too fat (because they're too dang tight) or like they have no butt at all. I just don't get it. They don't look attractive!!

Gap jeans are also really expensive. :( I do have a pair from there and I like how they fit....but I was only able to buy them because the Bank of Mom was in town. :p

I went shopping with my friend and her teenaged daughter, she told us to wait outside the store, I think we were making her nervous. I could not believe $90. for ripped jeans, we wore ripped jeans, we wore them 'til they were worn out, they were special, they were also cheap. I actually like the low rise jeans because they fit me better, but I find them on e-bay or on sale. So many of the styles now are the same as when I was in school only way more expensive. Oh yeah then we went in Victoria's Secrets. I NEVER knew things so small could cost so much! She dropped $100. in there and came out with a tiny little bag. She spent at least $400 and only had 3 tiny bags.
The school district here still has a dress code and the girls can't wear those little shirts, they have to wear shirts that cover them up. Things I see when I go places shock me though, one girl from the stable stopped in one day after being at the fair. It's a good thing she wasn't going to ride a horse because she'd give everyone a show she was maybe an inch from coming out of that shirt, we all got a show as it was and it wasn't pleasant! When I had a good body I covered it up so I don't understand all the skin showing now.

Jess--GAP has a store at the Jeffersonville Outlet Mall....you ever been there? I've bought jeans from there way cheaper...same with Old Navy..they've got a store there too. If you want to look up the place it's Prime Outlets Jeffersonville...it's sorta near-ish Cincy, but a bit closer to Dayton, right off 71 on US RT 35 I believe.

Yup-Gap has outlet stores, sales onling and I love the Gap sale rack. I have literally bought my son Gap jeans for $8 at the stores of the sale racks and nice jeans for myself for $20. Just try to check the sale racks everytime you go.
WB- I too see some really attractive people dressed so badly they look unattractive.

Hmm, interesting thread.
Obviously everyones opinions are going to be a little bias due to the times they grew up in. Being 17, I know the pressure you feel to dress and look a certain way. I wear low rise jeans, I couldn't stand to wear anything higher than than, I can't stand when they touch my hip bones. I'm 5'9 and a size one so you can just imagine finding something that fits around the waist and still be long enough! So I usually end up paying quite a bit for jeans ... even if they're already pre-ripped ;). But hey, that's the style I guess. Name brands have a huge influence on who we even hang out with at school... You know you're "cool" when you pay $120 dollars for a sweater that has a seagull monogrammed in the back! People like that I cannot stand. No one should be that materialistic IMO. You should be shopping for what YOU like, no matter what store it's from.
When it comes to showing too much.. I agree, you should not be able to see your whole chest or your g-string hanging out of your pants. But most girls aren't going to walk around wearing a turtleneck either. Even at this age I believe girls still want to feel sexy.. or just crave that attention. I know that probably sounds stupid but... I don't walk around in a sweater and mom jeans even when no one's watching lol. What exactly is too much showing? Boob wise, tightness of the pants? Are short shorts and tank tops a crime too? Call me guilty then haha

Oh dang! I completely forgot about Jeffersonville....I drive by every time I go down to visit my friend in Cinci. I've never stopped there but would like to since I'm strapped for money so much, lol.
I'm leary of outlet stores.....there's a JC Penney outlet store on the east side of town that's very hit and miss. Sometimes you walk in there and there's a ton of cute and cheap things...and other times (most of the time) it's a bunch of ugly crap, lol.

I don't wear "mom" jeans and I am a 36 yr old mom. Jeans that sit on your pubic bone are too low, if you can not reach up to grab something with out your whoha showing then there is a problem.
1 inch of clevage is fine- 4-6 inches is a bit much. Tight pants are fine, we just do need to see the muffin top over the top of the jeans when the shirt is too short to cover it. Short shorts are in, but if you are just standing there and the bottom of your butt check is hanging out then they are too short.
Sexy is one thing- trashy is another- and I don't think ANY teenager needs to feel sexy or is wise in years enough to fully know the difference.
As far as designer stuff goes- You can have a closet full of it- I don't care, but the clothes do not make the person.

Try seeing your teacher's thongs!! Now that's just wrong.
I take pride in the fact that, if you see me out of my school uniform or jodphurs, I'll be wearing jeans that show no offensive areas. :p
Admittidly I have shortshorts, but my bum does not hang out of them at all.. they fit perfectly and only come out in appropriate weather. I can't help but laugh at the girls in my school who'll happily hang around the street corners, in the dark with an armload of guys wearing a tiny, skin tight, cleavage - no scrap that - boob showing top and skirts that barely cover their bums. Do they not realise how cheap, trashy and 'easy' they make themselves look? Heck, I'm only fifteen and I sound middle-aged.. but atleast I am proud of who I am and dress in an unoffensive way; yes, I have abit of an edgy style, but it's not in the least offensive.
I used to struggle with my self confidence endlessly but I've learnt to accept myself and my style without feeling I need to buy every designer top, follow every trend and be exactly spot on with fashion. And you know what? I get a ton more compliments than the girls who do that get.
