Jackie B wanted some more horse stories-

Not sure these are as good as my others but anyway -
I'll toss them out and see what you think-

The best ride ever.

Once upon a time, in 2004 I do believe,
I'd just got home from the Lolo Trail Ride with the Sheriff's Posse.

What a group of helpful, considerate folks!
Wow!

We rode up Wendover Ridge (Lewis and Clark trail) to Snowbank Camp.
Passed the Orofino prisen gang, doing trail work.
Very courteous outlaws.

Next day we cut out over 100 trees on the old trail.
Got it cleared for one mile.
Took a break at Cayuse Creek, ( mm 63) grass for horses for lunch.
Camped at Doe Creek Junction. (about mm 56.5 )

Next day rode to Howard Camp, (mm50) then on to 12 Mile Saddle.

At 12 Mile Saddle, Dennis took her horse to Harlan Updal's -
the outfitters camp, because of an old shoulder injury.
Harlan loaned her a old horse (for free) to finish the ride.
Her horse is a 4- 5 hour drive from town, and Harlan will bring it
to Pierce- Weippe- in about a week.

Now ain't Harlan something else?
Unbelieveable! Great kind outfitter. He is good to his horses too.
He picked Dennis's horse up at our camp-
delivered a horse- took her horse to his camp....

What a sweetheart!

Sunny's leg wound- from my dum picket line wreck-
from 30 days ago- got worse. So we took him to the vet.

The vet said we did the right thing, bringing him in.
I'm never sure about those things. Am I over- reacting?
More doctoring - his leg needs a little help.
Different drugs to fight infection, and different drugs to
help heal him. The vet left on call, 5 minutes after our arival.
Our timing was just right. When he saw us, he stopped whatever he was doing, and helped us with no appointment.
We have a good vet.
He takes care of us, and he knows his stuff.
He has to go fix-up a 2 year old Throughbred stud horse- who ran into a barb wire fence, in the lightning storm last night.

Tomorrow we go back to camp,
Come home Friday again for a Forest Service
resoulation meeting.

I had a good time.

About 3 of us rode the trail, and the other 3 rode the road.
The trail is a bigger challenge than the road, that is for sure; and
bring a chain saw. :)

We took Norm Miller on the Lolo Trail in in 2004 also. And that was the year of our camp cats.

Oh, wow! That sounds like such fun- except for the few horse mishaps, of course!

Can hardly wait for the camp cats story!

Sunny's picket line wreck that year was all my fault, and I nearly killed him. Life in the mountains is not very forgiving and mistakes can cost big time, so its best not to make them. He was eating hay on the picket line and had it widely scattered, so I gave him enough rope - to hang himself I guess. Never tie a horse with more rope than what it takes to just get his nose to the ground, or less.

We was visiting with an old, almost retired Powel logger, who taught us many things.

Mistake number two- I should of checked Sunny before bed, but I did not. Too distarcted by visiting. At 5 AM I hear thumping. What could that be?
