I figured, since Diane was just at my house last night, she might like to see what I just saw when I looked to the right after posting on my "This... is not good" thread.
I'd say this little guy was maybe about a foot away? (finger placed for size comparison):

I know he's really small and not much for most of you to look at, but Diane loves spiders sooo much, she doesn't care if they're see-through!
Oh, and sorry for the pic phone quality- I really wanted to get all the little hairs but that's not happening w/out my good one.. enjoy!

Tell us what you really think, Vick.. LOL!
No, he wasn't dead yet- just wondering why I kept following him with the bright light and the finger.. he's dea- er, gone now though. I asked him what his lifelong dream was, and coincidentally enough, he'd always wanted to go white water rafting. Ha! Imagine that!

I've been trying to get Diane back on the forum tonight. She's glued to the Hallmark channel right now watching some girlie, mushy, kleenex movie. You better find some place to hide away CarCar. You know how she gets when it comes to spiders. Sounds like she and Vick would get along great. Diane could run off screaming and running her fingers through her hair while Vick delivers the fatal blow.http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/confused/confused0068.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-msn-smileys.php)http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0012.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net/free-unhappy-smileys.php)http://img2.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0011.gif (http://www.mysmiley.net)

LOL! That's alright, I know how she is with her girly movies too..
And- you hit the nail on the head with these two, when Diane comes w/in fifty feet of a spider:

That's right, Em! Desensitization, if you will. Comes in handy for all that trail riding- I get tired of being the web-catcher!
alittleoffkey
10-27-2008, 07:56 PM
Oh... erm... Carla, if we ever go trail riding together, I'm positive you're the best web-catcher out there! :innocent: :D
carla

Oh, wouldn't that be dreamy?? Let's go! I have NO problems being web catcher.. I even stop and talk to them sometimes.. :innocent:

That'll have to be quite the affair... Temple (you live near there, right?) is about two hours away from school (which is an hour and a half from my parents')! But we'll have to go sometime, we're way too close not to! :cowboy:
On edit: I promise I wouldn't make too much fun of you for appologizing to the spiders' for destroying their webs. :p
carla
10-27-2008, 08:09 PM
Definitely! And I appreciate the preemptive promise on your part. But something tells me you're just trying to lure me..
OH, and while we're on the subject of riding and GA, have you been to/seen this? I'm sure you've at least heard of it since it's kinda up your way--

Oh yeah, in Dawsonville. It's like 30ish minutes from the parentals' (depending on traffic... this time of year with the tourists it would probably take over an hour ). I've never been, though. Someone wanted me to go with them last year... but I can't, for the life of me, recall who. Were you thinking about going?

10-27-2008, 08:18 PM
Oh ya, and Diane and I would be watching girlie channels together. I love lifetime, its my regular channel, then lifetime movie channel. I have no idea what regular TV is...lol Hallmark will work too!!!

Yep, a young fiddler back (brown recluse sp.) I hear they can kill you from 5 feet away and are the "badger" of the spider world. Be vewy, vewy caful don't startle them, they can also jump 8 feet from the standing position. VERY dangerous, VERY deadly!!!!:nono:

O.K. Vick, sorry, this is how rumors get started. They can't really do all that stuff, they just inflict a bite that will kill the tussue and cause very large ugly wounds around the bite area, unless of course you are alergic to the venom. Besides, that wasn't a brown recluse, it was a cow spider. Now that's a dangerous spider. They say one bite can kill an adult cow. Carla!!! you GOTTA be more careful.

Never heard of a cow spider, but it dont matter, it would be dead anyway.
As far as the recluse, they are fast, and they can do some damage.
Seen a girl with a bite, not as bad as some Ive heard/seen pics of, but bad enough.

Hey Vick. What do you do about the spiders at the barn/run in? I get those really big ones on those really big webs. I am constantly brushing off my clothes and my hair. oooooohhhhhh...I just can't even write about them without getting shivers all over.

My sheds and run in get sprayed. I wait until I only have a couple bales of hay left, and go berserk. For the run in, I move the horses to the round pen or a grazing area, depending on when Im spraying, and go berserk...lol
I have a 2 gallon pump sprayer, all sheds get sprayed, the outside of the buildings, and the outside of the house. Spiders do live underneath the house, but if moth balls have insecticide in them, they dont any more..lol
