View Full Version : October is not my month.

I was "let go" at work because they feel I don't "fit well in the environment." I have many choice words I'd like to use, but I'm thinking the WBs wouldn't appreciate it here.
I'm so frustrated and angry with my main boss (there are 2 doctors who own the hospital...1 just happens to make more of the decisions than the other). At my 3mo review, I was told that I had about another month to improve on things like multi-tasking and if there was no improvement, we'd part company. My 3mo was back in August. I felt I made huge strides and lots of improvement and felt like I was finally getting the hang of things. But apparently not because today I was told they were letting me go. The doctor who told me is the second one who has less of a say and he seemed genuinely unhappy about it and said he'd give me wonderful references. He said the first one had a list of reasons why I wasn't working out and I'm so angry that none of it had been discussed with me. I was really led to believe that things were improving and I was doing good. This came out of freaking no where.
I did just do some interviews at another vet hospital but had that whole process interupted by my car wreck. So I don't know if they're going to still be interested. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see. I'm also hoping I'll be eligible for unemployment, but I don't know since I've only been working here for 6mo and I'm thinking in Ohio you have to work full time for 1 year before you're eligible.
Maybe I should sell Rebel. I love him to death and I really don't want to, but he's a huge strain on my budget and I don't know.....god I don't know. I really don't want to. :( I wish I could find a barn to keep him at for very cheap until I have all this crap figured out. I don't know what to do.
Sorry if this is hard to understand or too emotional, I just found out about a half hour ago.

Aw man. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Major hugs. I really hope it doesn't come to having to sell Rebel.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your job, don't give up on Rebel just yet, file for unemployment, you may be able to get it.
If they were sort of not telling you everything about why you were let go or what the first doc had to say, you have every right to go back there and request to look at your personnel file. The more I work with doctors (of any kind) the more I dislike working for them, they are usually pretty difficult.

11-11 I am so sorry to hear about your job. I know it's probably overwhelming right now, but you don't have to make a decision about Rebel today. Take a deep breath. It sounds like you have other leads that you can follow up on tomorrow. I think once you start taking forward action you will things will look better. But if you need to vent? Go for it! That's what we're here for. :)

So sorry to hear this bad news. We were all hoping you had found a home there for a while anyway. Good advice above. You don't need to make a decision about Rebel right away. Give yourself a little time. Things have a way of working out eventually but it may not always be the road we'd like.

Man, that is not good news. Im sorry your going through this.
You know my ups and downs I had with City, in thinking about selling or leasing. That never happened, I just couldnt do it. I actually got major sick to my stomach, migraines too.
I think you should wait and see what decision you need to make.
Maybe someone could pasture him out for you for awhile while you get back on your feet.
Or free lease him, but only to someone you know will care for him.
Prayers up for a good turn around. You've had enough issues to deal with.

I'm sorry girl. Keep your chin up and follow up with thoes other jobs. And don't make any major decisions about Rebel while you are emotional! You'll figure out how to keep him and get another job.

Second time I've been laid off since February.
This is the worst year ever.

11-11 I'm sorry to hear about your job. There is some really good advice above. Don't do something rash.
Good luck and I'm sure a new and better door will open for you.

All of my coworkers that I've talked to since I found out have been incredibly supportive. It doesn't make sense to any of them. And I think I'm eligible for unemployment after all....so now I just need to decide what I want to do, whether to continue working for the next couple weeks or take a break. I guess I'll finish out this week and go from there.

We'll be thinking of you. Sorry it's been tough, but it looks like things might be getting a bit brighter already.

Sorry this happened. It has to be rough. Hope you find something else soon. And good to know that you qualify for unemployment if you need it.

ahhh sorry. This is a tough year for a lot of people. You have to remember that they're probably more people out there just like you or worse off. Keep your head up, and like the others said, don't make a decsion on Rebel just yet. See if your rents are willing to help at all? also when I was younger & was going through some major financial changes I leased my horse out to help pay for the cost of him & his board. It worked out wonderfully. He was being used, and excersied while I worked my butt off to get myself caught back up. And he was at that time, one less bill I had to worry about. Just take a breath, sit back & think about things before you jump to any rash decsions.

I was on unemployment through April, took a short course and then started working in a new field. I was also let go for "not fitting in" just 2 weeks ago. It happens.

Bummer! What a rough time for it, too.
I guess you knew you weren't staying there, though, if you were already interviewing elsewhere? Maybe the doctor found out and got miffed?

I am sorry to hear that they let you go. You should be able to get unemployment and the place that you board might be willing to work with you if you let them know now. When I lost my job last year the barn where I am they were willing to accept a little bit every week for board until I could get back on my feet. A lot of people are in the same boat so more places are actually willing to work with you on finances. You should be able to file by computer now. Good luck and never give up hope.

I was trying to either leave or find a second job because my paychecks weren't cutting it as it was. I kept it on the DL and only told one coworker (another doctor who was like my best friend and confidant while working there....she's been my regular vet for years now) who offered to be a reference for me. I did let it slip to another receptionist who I believed I could trust, but I didn't tell her I was trying to leave, just that I was trying to find a second job. So I don't know if maybe that did happen or what....I highly doubt my vet would have been the one to say anything to sabatoge me - we have a business relationship as well as a friendship, and she's not the shady type. If anyone said anything, my guess it would have been the other receptionist.

I'll find out in 2 weeks or so whether I qualify for unemployment. Joy! Luckily my BO is allowing me to work Saturday and Sundays cleaning stalls and feeding for a $100 reduction in board every month, which is a huge help. I start next month since I've already paid for October.
Thanks for the good luck...I need it!

Jessica, if you're still looking for a cheap place to board Rebel (although I do love your current barn, but I understand it might just get to be too expensive) let me know and I'll keep an eye out for you. I'm always browsing craigslist and horse sites.

Hang in there!

Awe, thanks Arrow. :)
Vickie, for now I think we'll stay put since I'll only be paying $150/mo if I help clean stalls on weekends (and crap, it's ONLY 7 stalls). Although if I end up moving home, I'll have to figure something else out...but lets hope it doesn't come to that!
