I still need to talk to my vet about this....

But during Cane's surgery he was injected with halurenic acid (no I did not spell it right). When we do his 1 month check-up he will be injected with it again.

I am wondering if I should also put him on the HA supplements as well? Most of what I have seen is that it is good for joints and Cane's injury is the tendon. But if it will help then at the age of 5 he is worth it to help.

Let me know what you guys think.

Hyaluronic Acid helps keep the synovial fluid healthy around the joints, providing cushioning and lubrication.

Using a HA supplement in between injections, as well as after can help lengthen the duration between injections down the road, and possibly help get better benefit out of the injections.

I need to do some digging on the tendon injury aspect of it- I'm more familiar with what it does for joints, lol!

I have no clue what it is.
Sounds like Gypsy has it going on though.
Sure hope Cane heals well for you.

Hyaluronic Acid is an essential component of joint cartilage and joint fluid, providing both lubrication and shock absorption. Hyaluronic acid is what makes joint fluid “sticky.” Because it blocks inflammatory reactions, protecting cells in the joint, HA is especially useful in acute situations as well as flare-ups of chronic joint conditions.
It also suggests that some style of administration of the hyaluronic acid might reduce the excursion resistance in the tendon–pulley unit, facilitating post-operative rehabilitation and limiting adhesion, after tendon graft and possibly improve the clinical outcome of flexor tendon graft.

The treatment of injecting HA for tendons is controversial, but some studies have seemed to have a positive effect.

I would talk to your vet about adding HA supplement, it could increase time between injections but it may not have as good as results.

Thanks, half_passing_haffie! You saved me the work, and gave me new info at the same time.

You also did a much better job of explaining the HA. I'm lousy at explaining things- I know in my head what something is, and shat it's used for and why it works, but many times, i can't transfer it into words, lol!

That's why a lot of times I'll copy and paste, or pull up links.

Tanya, if your vet is worried about inflamation, ask him/her if MSM would help. I've seen amazing reduction in tissue inflamation if it is used at the proper dosage.

Thanks HPF-that explains why they did the injection when they did the tendon surgery and the stem cell injections. My vet comes next week to take out stiches and I will ask her then.

Thanks again guys. I knew it worked for joints, but the tendon part was new.
