Ok, I think just about everyone knows about this thread now---->http://www.baywindfarm.com/forum/showthread.php?p=237405#post237405, but since it has gotten so long (I think it's like 6+ pages) I decided to make a new thread with pictures of Kota's new blanket.:)
Before I post the pictures though, I want to again thank the anonymous person who wanted Dakota to have this blanket and bought it for us. I don't know who you are (and I really think you should tell me, I'm a very curious person!;):innocent:)), there are so many nice, wonderful people on this forum it's hard to guess. But I am deeply touched by your kindness and very grateful. Dakota is going to be nice and warm this winter. He thanks you too.xD
I also want to thank Ashley (PatriotsDreamer) for all the time and effort she put into tracking down the blanket when the UPS people delivered it to the wrong house. I know she spoke to them on the phone and in person quite a few times and I feel kind of bad that she had to do all that! But thank you very very much, Ashley.:) The blanket looks awesome.:D
I tried it on Dakota this morning and made him model it so I could get pics for you guys.:D:p He gave me the funniest look when I put it over his head, he's never worn a closed-front blanket before and couldn't figure out why I was making him stick his head through a hole.:p I'm a bit unfamiliar with this style of blanket, but I think I got it adjusted correctly. At first I was a little concerned that it might be too snug up by his chest & shoulders, but I walked and trotted him inhand so I could see him move and it didn't seem to bother him at all or keep him from moving freely.
He looks really cute in it.:D
Pics!:p
Don't take Kota's expression seriously, he really does like the blanket.;)

I loosened the back leg straps a little after this picture, I'm not sure how snug they should be?
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc148/dakota_92_2007/kotasnewblanket008.jpg
This was the spot I was worried about being too snug, but I can fit my hand inside so there is some room, and he didn't have any problem moving out when I walked and trotted him. So I think it's ok.

You wouldn't want it any smaller, but it's OK - It will stretch some with use, where he needs it, probably.
I think I'd use it as an under-liner under his blue one, when it's really cold and snowy. I don't think it covers as much as the Saxon for just 'rain', particularly on his hiney. :)
Cyn's underblanket has the belly band like that, and I think they're real comfy.

Wow, I hadn't seen the other thread. What a nice thing for somebody to do for you! Dakota looks great in it! I have the same blanket in a different color but haven't used it in a few years. My mare's belly got too big for the belly band, lol.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I guess all brands of blankets must be sized a little differently. His blue Saxon blanket is a 72" and I have the front on the tightest hole when he wears it, it's very roomy on him. This blanket is also a 72", but it has snugger fit. But I think it's going to work out just fine.:)

Yep, I was thinking that too.:D It's going to be perfect for the nights when it gets in the teens and single digits- we get a lot of those. His Saxon blanket should fit right over it and he'll be nice and toasty.:D It will also work for days when his Saxon blanket needs to dry out (I bring it in the basement to hang by the wood burner, drives my mother crazy:D) and it's cold out but not wet.:)

Your Saxon has good coverage in the rear and a tail flap, right? If so he'll be quite toasty, and it's actually good that this one isn't bulky in the back too. Bay wears two weatherbeetas, his old one and his new one, when I double him up, and two tail flaps are sometimes too heavy when it's wet, for him to get his tail completely out of the way to poo. Messy :p

Right on! He looks very impressed and the blanket fits alright! I agree, I wouldn't want it any smaller but it wont hurt him! That's how the blue blanket that is now Sierras looked on Cawl last year, and he was fine! He had his bigger one over top of it so it all worked out well! I think Koda will be toasty warm this winter! Good for you and what a great person this mystery person is (I wish I knew too!! I'm also a curious george :innocent:) Whoever it is, what a selfless thing to do & again, the world would be a better place if there were more people like you (whoever 'you' is) in it! ;)

I'm so happy your saga is over. I've used belly band blankets because my old mare(RIP) hated legs straps. The blanket stayed in place without the leg straps. When you use it under your other blanket take the leg straps off, it will stay in place & give him more shoulder room too.
What an awesome horse Dakota must be to let you put that 'thing' over his head.
You're a very lucky gal.

I had a blanket like this for my first horse(and that belly band was much more comfy for her prego belly..lol)...but it had buckles on the front...I wish it hadn't been destroyed in a flood...I loved it..had a detachable hood for it too.

It happened to me before too, with dhl - It was a live snake and it got dropped off in a wrong address. By the time I found it, the snake got sick from being cold. I was so frustrated.

He looks so cute in it! I'm so happy it finally got to you. I like his halter too, does that have a breast collar to match? A friend has a red halter that looks similar with matching breast collar they use when they run barrrels. Delta won't be running any barrels but I still want to get the halter and breast collar for her, red would look pretty since she's black. ANYWAY he looks adorable and he seems to be enjoying his new blanket.

Oh, on the back straps. My Weatherbeeta says you should be able to get about a sideways hand's width for tightness of the straps. I hold my hand right up against that giant muscle in the hock (or whatever it's called) on Buster and then turn it sideways. Maybe 4" or so of room in there.

It's very kind of you to offer to let me sell this blanket and buy him something else with the money I get for it, but I would feel really bad about selling it. You and Ashley have been so nice to me, I would just feel bad if I had to do that. At first I was concerned that the blanket might be a tad small for Kota too, but I think it will be all right and it might stretch a little bit too which would help. He didn't seem to have any problem with it (I walked and trotted him to make sure it didn't restrict his movement) so I think it will make a nice under-liner blanket for when it's really cold (we'll have a lot of days with temps in the teens and single digits in January and February). It should fit nicely under his blue Saxon blanket.:)

If I were to sell the blanket and use the money to buy another (depending on how much money I could get for it), I would probably get this: http://www.horse.com/Saxon-1200-Denier-Medium-Wt-Turnout-Blanket-BEA20.html And I would probably get a size 78". Which of course is way too big for Dakota, but I was actually thinking about this tonight and I have the perfect plan, lmbo.:p Miss Booty Butt (Beauty;)) has put on a few pounds since I bought her turnout blanket back in 2007.:innocent: I got her a 75", and it does still fit but it's adjusted as loose as it will go in the front. She can wear it (and still be comfortable) and she will, but I could also use it on Dakota. I tried it on him and it does fit him just fine if I adjust it way down. So not counting the new one (that I still love:D), he'd have two winter blankets that fit him (meaning his 72" Saxon and Beauty's 75"). Beauty has one 78" that fits her very well, plus her 75" that just fits. My goal is to have two turnout blankets for each horse, that way I can rotate them and the horses don't have to go blanketless when I have to bring the blankets into the basement to dry.
So if I were to get a new blanket, it might make sense for me to buy a bigger one for her, and then give Dakota her 75" (so he'd still be getting the second blanket that he needs, it just wouldn't be "new". Would you and PatriotsDreamer be ok with that? I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything!). Did anyone follow all that?:innocent: I think I even confused myself!:p
But yeah, with all that said, I still don't know. I may just keep the blanket I got from you (Mystery Person) and Ashley.:) It's such a nice blanket. Maybe I'll try it on Kota again before I make up my mind, but I do think it will make a nice under blanket for him.:)

Thank you!:D If I knew who you were, Mystery Person, you'd definately be on my Christmas card list!:D:p Like JackieB said, you truly are a special person.:) Thank you.
Beauty definately needs a 78". She has that exact blanket in a 75" (which is the one I'm planning on giving to Dakota), and it *just* fits. So a 78" would be perfect, plus her other blanket is a 78" and fits her great.:) I'm stuck in the house today with a fever and bad cough , otherwise I would go out and measure her. But that's not really necessary anyway, I know she needs a 78".:)
Oh, and about the 20 degree rating, that is a very good point.:) However, I know for a fact that she will be fine in that blanket even when the temperature gets below 20*, because she and Dakota both wore their medium weight Saxon blankets all last winter and they did great. I LOVE saxon blankets.:D http://www.horse.com/Saxon-1200-Denier-Medium-Wt-Turnout-Blanket-BEA20.html

Dear Miatapony, I do not understand your angst. PatriotsDreamer practically gave her blanket away, she could have sold it for more than twice of what she did, she chose not to partly because she remembers the kindness shown to her during her hay crisis. Kindness begets kindness. ;)
The blanket DakotaSunrise received will work very well for her needs. Therefore she has no reason to sell it. I offer another so she and her horses will be prepared for any weather which may befall them. My reasons are my own.
I did not offer her whatever she wants, just a blanket. Her receiving a gift in no way takes from others on this forum or anywhere else.
Dear DakotaSunrise, please do not let let anything mar your decision or pleasure. :)

Either way, you have shown a lot of compassion and caring for a fellow forumer and thank you so much. You are a great person and I'm thankful you are who you are!
I wish you happy hunting for your new blanket!

Being that I know miatapony very well, I will tell you that her concerns are not that some mystery person is being generous but that a mystery person who is admittedly an adult is giving expensive gifts to a child (yes I know DS is a later teen-but she is still living with her parents). My concern as a parent is; has this Mystery Person made contact with DS’s parents to make sure that it is appropriate to be sending a possibly $100 plus gift to their child.
Honestly the first was a nice gesture but now it looks creepy. Not that DS doesn’t deserve this kindness-I am sure she does, but as a parent I would have concerns.

Seriously guys? Just let it be. It's not creepy. I am pretty sure this is a nice guesture and to try and turn it into something else is wrong.

AppyLover, My concern with the creation of the MysteryPerson Account was the risk of just that... that what little security we have with a "known" identity on the internet, is lost when even that is kept secret, and it sets up a considerable risk for any of us to give out our information too freely to someone who is unknown, but particularly with a minor.
I can assure you that in this case, I know who it is, and it's not creepy, it's just someone who wants to do a nice thing... but I'd also like for the MysteryPerson idea to fade off into the sunset, because even the best of intentions just draws more attention, not less, when there's a shroud of mystery and secrecy about it, and I know that is exactly the opposite from what was intended. - we live and learn! :)

ok MP this is nice of you but really you can share the love with others on here also ?? i can understand helping out one person but buying them what ever they want is not a good thing .. why not sell this blanket and use that money to put towards buying a new one that fits better.. im not trying to be mean.
I think I see what you mean, miatapony, and you do have a point. And originally I admit that when Mystery Person told me I could choose another blanket if I so desired to, I thought she meant I could sell the one from PatriotsDreamer and buy another with the money. It took me a long time to realize that she meant she'd buy me another on all together! And I admit, I was floored! But I never once thought it to be creepy at all and I still don't. I personally have no proof of that other than gut instinct, but WB and Country Girl know who Mystery Person is and have assured us all that's it's just someone with a really kind heart who wants to do something nice.
And I want you to know that I'm not taking it for granted and being giving whatever I want is not going to my head. I've never ever, not once in my life, been told to just pick whatever I want and have it be given to me free of charge. I come from a poor family who just never had the means to do that, and I never expected them too. I have been raised to work for what I have and to give to those who have less than I. I can thank my parents for that, they are good people who have taught me well. We have been giving to local food banks and Toys for Tots and other similar charities for as long as I can remember and it taught me to give with an open heart.
This time I am the one receiving the gift, and I am very grateful for that and deeply touched. I was absolutely shocked when PatriotsDreamer told me the blanket was on its way to me, paid for by some unknown person who just wanted to help me keep Dakota warm this winter. I cannot thank that person enough, and I'm sorry if this whole thing caused some people to be concenred, and I'm also sorry if anyone thinks I don't deserve it. I guess there is nothing I can do about that except assure them that I didn't ask for anyone to give me anything and I won't take it for granted. I can also promise you that the annonomyous good dead won't stop with me. Christmas and Thanksgiving are coming, and my family always pitches in to buy food and toys for local families in need, all of it done annonomously of course. (I mean you guys know because I just told you, but the people receiving the food/toys don't know who its from). We can't afford to give much but we do what we can, and I'll be putting in a little extra this year with Mystery Person's kindness to me in mind.:)
Thank you again, Mystery Person, very very much.
And this...
"And I want you to know that I'm not taking it for granted and being giving whatever I want is not going to my head. I've never ever, not once in my life, been told to just pick whatever I want and have it be given to me free of charge. We have been giving to local food banks and Toys for Tots and other similar charities for as long as I can remember and it taught me to give with an open heart." DS
is why it is a pleasure to give you a gift, Dakota. Enjoy this simple act of generosity, unencumbered. It's obvious you will pay it forward if and when you can.

I didn't realize this turned into such a drama. Unreal. Dakota S. enjoy your blankets, you deserve them. If every teenager was like you the world would be a better place. Don't let anyone let you feel bad just enjoy what will keep your baby warm and enjoy knowing that someone on here cares enough that he is warm. Do not let anyone step on your happiness.

Dear DakotaSunrise, 78 it is then. Good girl. :) Are you sure that is the blanket you want? Schneider Saddlery -sstack.com has nice blankets also. Please feel free to check them also, you may find one more to your liking as they offer some with the belly bands which you have shown interest in. ;) When you have decided please let me know and i will have it shipped directly to you-or your neighbor. Thank you
I'm off to check out Schneider Saddlery's blanket sellection before I make my decision.:D If anyone has a blanket suggestion feel free to post it (as long as it's not too expensive, I don't want to go any higher than what the Saxon ones cost. I don't want to take advantage of Mystery Person's kindness).

What does it mean when a blanket says "Euro fit"? I kind of like these ones, but I have no expereince with them and I don't know what the "Euro fit" thing means. I also need something that is really water proof, which is something I really like about the Saxon blankets. But these I believe are only $69.00, so that's a better price than the Saxons, which I think were like $85?

Euro fit means a little higher on the neck than the standard "american" blanket which is better shaped for a QH and will sit too low on a narrow-chested horse. Dakota would probably do better in a Euro neck then Beauty, but if you get them the right size, they'll work on either horse. It just rides higher on the neck with a smaller opening. And that's a good thing for keeping rain out. :)
Weatherbeeta makes their Euro necks like this:

On Cyn those low gussets work nice. I actually think the higher gusset works better on Bay who has a higher shoulder and gives him more movement. He's not worn the kind Cyn has, yet, but I don't think they're making the green one he's got any more, so I may have to go there when his needs replaced.
Yes, they can put their heads down fine with them...
On a day this cold, they're probably wearing two blankets, there's one on under these, and that makes Bay's a little tight-looking or bulky in the chest.

Ok, well I was thinking about it when I was out feeding the horses tonight (my dad has had the computer all evening so that's why I haven't been on until now) and I decided that while the Euro fit looks nice, it would probably be more suited for Dakota. But this blanket is for Beauty and she is full QH and I don't think that style would fit her as well. Kota is leaner with higher withers, but she is very stocky. I guess I should probably stick with that I know. I've had very good luck with the Saxon blankets and I know that style works well for Beauty and the 78" will fit her great. So that's probably my best bet, although I will definately consider the sstack.com blankets if I ever need to buy Dakota another blanket, because the Euro neck would be great for him I think.:) Thanks everyone for your input.:D
So, Mystery Person, if this one is okay with you price-wise and everything, I guess I've made me decision. http://www.horse.com/Saxon-1200-Denier-Medium-Wt-Turnout-Blanket-BEA20.html Size 78" please.:) Thank you soooooooo much!
