What is a safe age for minis to start jumping or driving? I have a mini gelding that is 40" and 2 yrs old, he was given to me to eventually use as a kids pony since he is too big for shows. I have had him for a year, and I'm always surprised by how quickly he catches onto things. I have been ground driving him and he does well with that, I was planning on starting him with a cart at 3. I was just wondering if the same rules apply with minis as with big horses as far as what can be done at what age.

Thanks

I am pretty sure in shows that they have to be at least to compete in a driving class which and same with jumping

He might be too tall to do AMHR/A Shows. They have an A Division, which is 34" or less and a B Division that is 34"-38".

I would probably start his training around 3.5-5 years old, but that's just me. Don't jump him to early or he might have joint problems later on, and don't ask him to pull a cart too early. You can start desensitizing him to thinks like bridles, but I wouldn't ask him to pull or jump anything yet.
