Well, I travelled to GSU with the Hunt Seat Team for my first IHSA show on Saturday. I ended up winning 3rd place in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences. I drew a 15.2hh bay TB gelding named Elvis. He was pretty ugly, poor thing. I was told to wear spurs and ride him agressively towards the fences, but not to mess with his face, just pull and realease. I guess after I went into the ring, the lady told my coach and team captain that she was afraid he was gonna be a stopper. Glad she didn't tell me that! We got around the course pretty well. Apparently he's a jumper, and I don't know why she made me wear spurs, because he was trying to haul. Her advice about not touching his face was ridiculous too, because I had to hold him the whole time. He kept trying to duck his should to the insdie and fall on my leg, and he jumped to the right over the jumps prett sharply. But I guess it looked pretty enough for 3rd.
Overall our team came in 4th. Everyone rode pretty well with only one or two hiccups. It was a ton of fun. We have a home show here in Gainesville on Sunday. The roster is being sent out tomorrow and I signed up so I really hope I get to ride.

Hey congrats! You guys look great! Glad you had a good time and congratulations on the third. Hope the next show is just as pleasurable of an experience.
To be completely honest here, his heart doesn't seem to be much in the jumper field. He's got really really open legs going over all those fences. All the same, I'm glad everything went pretty well! Thanks for the pictures.
You have beautiful form over fences, by the way. :) I haven't seen too many riders who don't overreach as they're going over the jump.

Thanks everyone!
Fork- Thank you, I've been working on that. The last time I was jumping regularly, it was 3'6"+, so I'm having to focus on not overjumping and hilding my shoulder since these jumps are so small.
Elvis definitely is not scopey nough to do the bigger stuff, but someone has been doing him in the jumpers, and not very well, because he drops his shoulder and cuts corners big time.
Peace baby- He wasn't horribly conformed, but you can't tell in the pics really that he has a really ugly head. He seemed pretty sweet though.
Michelle- Yeah, it rained off and on all day. It was kind of sucky, but it could have been so much worse so I didn't really mind. It got pretty bad during my flat class though. It think there aren't any pics of it because of that. No one wanted to get their camera soaked!

Nice job! It's nerve-wracking competing on a horse you've never ridden before. I wasn't on the eq team when I went to UF, but a couple of my friends were. Enjoy the experience!

I really dont mind riding strange horses, I used to do it all the time when I competed in high school. It's more the team aspect that gets me, that I'm not just riding for myself. That's one of the things I like about IHSA over NCAA. But I have no nerves... never have, even when I should, lol.

Great job! You are an amazing rider to just draw a horse and then compete on it - jumping!!!!
