Okay so I posted this before on H.com, however, we got some newbies or some may have missed the post. ;)

What do you do for a living?
Do you like it?
Is there a job change in your future?

If not a job, Are you a student?
If so what grade/school?
What's your major in school?
Where do you see yourself in the future doing?

Okay I'll start!

I work as a Full time Fire Fighter / National Registered Emergency Medical Tech. (EMT) for a local fire department. (Yep I'm the ambulance person!)

I love my job but thrive for more more more.

There is a job change in my future, I am currently in College to become a Registered Nurse. Only a few more semesters left! (Hopefully)

Who's next?

Job? OH ya, that place people go to work and make money.
Nope, dont have one of those.

My job, to harass people on WBs forum, and I do that so well...LOL

Im a stay at home wife. I take care of the house, dogs, cats, horses, and hubby when he is home.
We tried me working and him being on the road, didnt work, to much conflict in NO time seeing each other, and to much house work being done when he was home. So, I get to harass you folks when Im not cleaning.
Got my front room and bed room all polished today.

I used to work for Met. Life Insurance Co. but now I don't have a job except for taking care of the animals. I love that job, it's not really a job it's fun. When I go to the stable I help out there and again it's not a job. I love being with all the animals.

If I had a job I think I know what I'd want to do. I love old houses so I think I'd like to be a restoration architect to take old houses back to what they looked like yrs ago. You need to be smart to do that though and I've never been smart because I've had some learning problems. I think though if I could pick a job that's what it would be. I like to decorate too but I don't think I could do that as a job since not everyone likes my style and I couldn't decorate in a style I really hated so I'd get fired!

I would also like to train horses but I know that's even farther from my ability than an architect!!!! The pay isn't as good either.

My husband has a job, he's a 5th grade teacher. He loves to teach but he hates all the testing that they have to do now. He's looking at retiring this yr or next. He will still be in education though once he leaves the district he hopes to work with student teachers, he already has a job lined up.

O girl, just because you have learning problems doesn't mean your not smart! I know your smart! Everyone is SMART in their own ways & what makes them "un" smart is when they don't have the willingness to learn the "job" they want to do & just give up! You could do it & it sounds like it would be a lot of fun!

I work mainly in sales, but since I am a rep for a trailer company I also have to drive a forklift oftain.

I hope there is a change in jobs down the road, this job pays well, so no complaints there, this was just not what I had pictured myself doing long term.

Currently starting school (again) and going back for my batchler's degree in holistic health. My first time around I went for training as a fitness trainer, had hopes of training body builders, but "something" changed along the way and I changed my mind. The body building world, as much as I love it, just isn't for me.

I have a couple very different roads that I am going on that I did not expect when I was younger. Funny how that happens.

What do you do for a living? I am an Optometric Technition (basically an eye nurse) for an Optometrist and I manage the whole office as well. I do all the preliminary testing before the doctor does the exam and then also act as a receptionist/punching bag...lol.

On the side I do freelance writing for the Merchandising department of Horse.com. If you take a look at all the western saddles in your new Country Supply catalog, yours truly wrote them :)

Do you like it? The job with the Optometrist is ok for now, it definitely pays the bills, I like the hours, I like the location and it's not super stressfull. It also allows me plenty of Forum time between patients and calls. The writing job is ok, it's not constant but it's some extra money which is nice.

Is there a job change in your future? Maybe not in the near future but I will need to move on up in the salary department once I'm married and start thinking about kids.

What do you do for a living? I'm the only employee at a boarding stable (25 stalls) basically doing anything and everything that needs to be done.

Do you like it? Most of the time. I get to work outdoors with nice people and awesome horses. Sometimes it does get tedious though and it's really sucky to shovel horse poop when you have the flu :(

Is there a job change in your future? Hopefully not a change, just a promotion :D

If not a job, Are you a student? I'm a student, too. I'm superwoman, I do it all ;)

If so what grade/school? I'm a Junior in high school

What's your major in school? Don't have one

I'm a junior in High School right now. I'll be applying to college sometime next semester, probably around march. Right now I take a lot of science/biology based classes. I plan on going to CSU for an undergrad in some sort of biology based major (currently considering microbiology, zoology, equine science, animal science, and biomedical science, as well as general bio). Afterwards I'll apply to veterinary school and go for that, hoping to become a DVM specializing in Equines. If I don't get in (most people get in on their second time applying) I'll get some job for a couple years to get by before applying again. If it isn't meant to happen, I'll go on to look to do something biology related.

I have a part time job at a local veterinary clinic as a tech assistant. I like it for the most part. There is a job change somewhere in my near future to an equine clinic, because the clinic I'm at now is just small animals.

I want your job....Seriously, thought about changing to this due the fact that I love riding all over the area + (caring the gun is a plus JK).

Right now I'm with the casino world. Been with this profession for 20+ years. I still love my job and like meeting people from all over the world.
The money is GREAT (which keeps me in the business) with good benifits.
I do see a change in my profession soon. My husband are planning on buying a stable for me to operate.
I'm tired of city living, I need to find my roots back at the barn.

What do you do for a living? Full - time I am the weekend manager at a doggie daycare, and a full time mom, part time I work at a local nursery/produce/christmas tree stand

Do you like it? I love all of it. At the daycare, I am responsible for the running of the entire day. From assigning handler postions, to making decisions about sick/injured/not playing well dogs. I screen all new dogs, fix handler scheduling issues, finalize payroll, handle any and all other problems that crop up, take in drop offs, explain to new customers what we do etc. I work 40 hours in 2 1/2 days. One 26-28 hour shift and one 13-14 hour shift.

I am a full time mom during the week, and basically do your basic stay at home mom things. Take the kids to school, organize the day, clean, arrange transportation, do bills, make dinner, do the shopping etc. Than I make to do lists for everyone on the weekend.

My part time job is pretty cool. I took it because my ex decided to stop paying child support, and my oldest is schedule to have some pretty extensive things done with her mouth that insurance will cover less than half of. Expences on her are about to go through the roof, so I figured some extra money isn't going to be a bad thing right now. At the stand I pretty much did most of the nursery type work. Assisted customers in finding plants, gave info on them (shade vs sun, watering requirements etc). Now we are doing mostly produce and pumpkins which isn't a bad deal. I can take the girls with me so it works out ok.

In between all this, I do rescue work. I usually have at least 1 litter of bottle fed kittens (that go with me everywhere and my oldest daughter helps alot to), and one foster in my house and 2-3 at work. I help advertise the dog, screen adopters, do meet and greets, organize fundraisers etc. This, of course, is not a paid position unless you count the love of each pet; which in that case its my best paying job.

Is there a job change in your future? I kind of like where I'm at and what I do. I miss vet tech work once in a while, but truely love what I'm doing now. The pay is good, so are the benefits not much to complain about.

Where do you see yourself in the future doing? Somthing with animals. I've worked with them since I was 12 and I don't see myself ever stopping. I know that much.;)

Where do you see yourself in the future doing? I want to be a teacher or a livestock vet :)

Hmmm. . I see Texas A&M in your future. . .

That's where I went. Wanted to be a large animal vet. Got my degree in Animal Science, (Science Option), finished all the pre-reqs to go to vet school and realized before I ever applied that I would go MAD if I stayed in school for a single semester longer. Like seriously crazy. Lol. I sometimes wish I had been more determined than I was but at that point in my life I couldn't have gone on.

Once I graduated I got my Insurance Adjusters liscense and worked as Claims Supervisor at a company in College Station. Then my hubby and I decided to move back to our 'home' area and start a family.

So now I'm a stay at home Mom with a burgeoning side gig as a photographer. Hasn't taken off too much yet but mostly because I haven't started advertising since I'm waiting for a few more purchases before I'll be comfy selling my skills out there in the real world. (Yikes). I am so not a person who wants to be her own boss. But the thought of not doing it is worse than the thought of doing it so here I go!! I do know one thing. I would LOVE to go back to school and take photography classes. I'd do another 4 years of that!! And that is saying something for me!

What do you do for a living? I work for Washington State Fish and Wildlife in the Inland Fish Program. I oversee all the trout, warmwater fish and grass carp in six counties in southwest Washington. I operate an 18 ft. long electroshocking boat to do warmwater surveys; I do angler surveys write technical reports; work extensively with the public; have a huge Youth Fishing Program with the help of hundreds of volunteers.

Do you like it? I really like it. Some days, it's really tough. Trying to protect the resource AND make the public happy is tough. People assume because you work for a state agency that you're automatically some beaurocrat butthead that has no care the people or the critters. Most of the time, it's just a wicked cool job though.

Is there a job change in your future? Not unless the new President has different ideas on how state agencies are run - then maybe. I've been doing this job for 17 years now.

Where do you see yourself in the future doing? Still working for the Department, making lots of good things happen. :)

If so what grade/school? Junior in college, changed my major today so I've got a couple years left at least.
What's your major in school? Was Psychology... is now teaching highschool english... we'll see if that sticks. :innocent:
Where do you see yourself in the future doing? I want to eventually own a boarding/breeding/training/lesson barn that's handicap accessible and eventually I want to do equine-assisted therapies.

I'm going to get my substitute teaching license soon(ish) and start sub-ing on Mondays and Fridays (just have class on Tues and Thurs) to make sure I'll like it. Being a sub isn't being a teacher but I'll at least get some feel for it. Until this point I've only ever trained horses and worked in a library. It'll be a new adventure at least. :cowboy:

I'm a registered nurse. I work at the VA hospital in Milwaukee (about 1 hour drive) 24 hours /week, 3 rd shift so I can take care of critters during the day.
I also board horses, give lessons & do some training ( usually with problem horses).
I am also an insomniac which allows me to do the above.

I sell Real Estate for my real job and make jewelry for a fun job and will be making leather/fur items in the future for extra income and enjoyment. My goal for RE is to have my own brokerage in a year or so and maybe even have agents working for me. That'd be awesome!

What do you do for a living? Web designer for software development company.

Do you like it? Yes ... and they let me work from home! Been there for 14 years.

Is there a job change in your future? NO WAY!

What's your major in school? Advertising / Graphic Design

Where do you see yourself in the future doing? Having my first baby in 2 weeks, short maternity leave and working from home again and caring for all my babies which include; 1 human baby, 2 horses, 2 dogs. Redecorating our entire home over the next couple years too! oh and of course riding once again! ;)
ALSO ... photography. I've been doing that for extra income on the side. Horse Portraits is my main thing, people eat em' up! Since I've got my own popular horse websites, it's easy advertising for me.

I'm a student :)
Over here (In the UK) I'm in Year 10 - but grade 9 for the US system (you have no idea how long it just took me to work that out!) :D However, I'm in three classes that are the equivalent of US grade 12. So....I've skipped 3 grades!

We don't have majors over here :p But we have GCSEs in Year 11 (your grade 10) and then the option to stay on for 6th form (your grade 11 and 12). In 6th Form you get AS Levels and A-Levels, and then the A-Levels get you a place in uni.
I'm doing ...17 GCSEs; I think.
And 3-Levels :D.

I want to go to Stanford to study Computer Programming but I don't think I can afford it. So instead I'll go to one of the vet schools in the UK and become a vet:D.
...Or a doctor, but I don't get on with people too well ;)

Also, I don't have a job because I need National Insurance before I can be taken on anywhere :(

Currently I am a student majoring in Human Development and Human Studies. That will lead me to a variety of jobs in the future. Currently I have 3 jobs! I work between my classes in our Business department, then every other Sunday I help at our church nursery, and now I am also training horses! It sounds like a lot, but it pretty much works around my schedule. My favorite job has to be the horses;) I really don't mind any of them at all!

What do you do for a living? Well, up till 5 days ago I was working in a medical office doing data entry, but it was a temp job thru a temp agency (it was supposed to be long-term tho, 6 months with possibility of maybe becoming permanent), but when I got pneumonia they pretty much told me I can't take time off and when I was off sick they told me to wait and return later on for another job....**sigh**....

Do you like it? Loved it!

Is there a job change in your future? Probably, I am always keeping my options open, altho I went to school for medical office/Coding.

If not a job, Are you a student? Graduated in 2001 from technical college.

What's your major in school? Health Information Management, I have an Associates Degree in Applied Science and I'm a Registered Health Information Technician.

Where do you see yourself in the future doing? I would like to get back into Coding, but right now in this area there are no jobs in that field. So I'm sort of pondering a change, and I'm not quite sure just what that may be yet, until I find the right job I'll do whatever.

Men: Has the economy affected you much? My FL just got laid off and he was in the same business.

Rackin: Thats awesome I wish I could work from home but I don't think I would get things done. Congrats on the soon mom to be!!

Pinky: You have me totally confused! LOL Maybe I'm not awake yet, but a DR that's great. WE need good ones!

WP: Your a busy girl yourself!! I was majoring in that my first year of college but switched to nursing full time & took human services as a minor.

Remili: Is coding different from transcription... I always wondered that... I don't know much about that aspect of the medical field.

Remali
10-29-2008, 08:20 AM
Yes, Coding is different from transcription. Coding is where you apply (usually numeric) codes for a patient's diagnosis or procedure, and then that is how the hospital, or clinic, gets reimbursed. I would also love to do transcription, altho I'm not a very great typist, lol! I did just apply for a transcriptionist job tho, so we'll see if I get called or not.

I just read back over my post and confused myself! :D
I do know that I have a GPA of 4.0 - my school told everyone who said they wanted to go to the USA for uni :p

Also, I have no idea if my GPA is good or bad, they only tell us things and never explain!

Pinky - A 4.0 is like having straight A's - yes, it's very good and will get you in a lot of places with some very nice scholarships. ;) I don't know what would get lost in the translation (of you being from England... I'm not sure how international students work this stuff out) - but fastweb.com offers tons of scholarships, you could apply for a lot of them. :)

Thanks for that ALOK :) I want to go to the US for uni but it'll be really expensive (even with scholarship)...hmmm :D. Anyone fancy renting out a room to a student in 3 years?:innocent:

Wanna edit my poetry analysis? It'll probably be a semi-epic fail xD. I don't pay much attention in English Lit:)

I run an auto parts store in a small town in upstate NY. Been here for 3 years now, been in auto parts since I was 17, so that makes it 9 years now. I'm also a mother of 2, married for 3 years, and have my horse. But dad lives next door so when he works late, which is a lot lately, I take care of the 7 horses in the barn. Then add in my 3 dogs and 2 cats, plus the 50 hours a week I work, it doesn't leave much time. Oh. and I also am a member of our county's Sherrif's Mounted Unit for the last 8 years. I like my job and the people I deal with, but I am looking into changing, just don't know what yet. I guess I just want soemthing with better benefits, since I don't have any. Anybody figured out how to add more hours to a day yet?

Yes I like it, though it can be tireing sometimes!
Nope I'm not going to change, it's like the only job out there for people my age, and I'm happy with it!

Yeah I'm still a student.
And I guess you'll just have to wonder about the grade won't ya? :p

I work at an auto repair shop.
I love my job and I love my coworkers, they are all guys and pretty easy to get along with.
I really don't see any job changes in the near future.
I did study to become a vet assistant, hoping to become a vet tech and work with an equine specialist here in Arizona.
But go figure huh??

Ok folks, I have no job and neither does my husband! And we have supported 2 horses for two months on our savings. We drive 30 miles one way to look for work. I have unemployment, Bob does not...

Here is the kicker!! I took a temp to permanent job, and was let go after NINE, count em, nine days! The assignment was until the end of the year at least. I am hearing impaired but I could not hear the instructor very well. So guess who gets to take a loan out against the truck to buy new, state of the art hearing aides?? I hate the behind the ear version, but unless I want to have a moron job I need them. The aide that I have is in the ear but its not powerful enough. Bob and I said we'd stick them on with duct tape...since behind the ear aides never stay put.

Its been a long day... :poo:

I have two jobs. Job one that pays most of the bills. I'm a GIS ( geographic Information systems) specialist. basically I make maps. I've done mapping of wildland fires, Mapping to assist with the Greensburg tornado incident, and currently I'm in charge of digitially mapping all of the land parcels for the tax assessors office in the County that I work for.

My second job is an office assistant for the County literacy Coalition.

I taught elementary school for 33 years before I retired in 2004. Loved my school and the people. It was like a family . I even miss the kids. I taught first grade for 7 years and then found my niche in third grade. I got to work with lots of other teachers because I ran a full inclusion classroom. There was never a dull moment!!
