I had something waiting in my inbox to cheer me up when I got home from my disastrous doctors appointment. *tries not to think about it*. Though, considering what was said today, these videos shouldn't really cheer me up .
Doing it right: YouTube - T-Boarding, Doing it Right.
Doing it really, terribly, disastorusly wrong: YouTube - T-Boarding, Doing it Wrong.
I hope everyone gets a good laugh and is inspired to wear their helmets by this footage :).

*snort* Thanks for making my day WB :D.
Though it must be said:
flip-flops = fail
the underwear/shorts(?) = fail
no helmet = meh
the fall = epic winning lol :p

Ouch! That was some fall. As long as you fell, it might as well be on video though, right?
Do you and your friends ever video your surfing? That would be cool to see.

That was a horrible fall. She could easily have been killed or worse (there are worse things than dying) when her head struck the pavement. Her guardian angel was with her that day.

Nice one, Pinky. ;) :p It's a good thing you had your helmet on. :)
As for the video, WB... LOL! I'd definitely say there was some ownage going on there.. Her face was totally owned by the pavement!

GR - Apart from giving myself a dead leg, nothing about that fall actually hurt. Though it should have judging my the way I slammed into the floor :cowboy:.
Gaited - If I'd been wearing shorts and flip-flops while doing that, I would have resulted in a trip to A&E. The tboard is heavy and flip-flops offer no protection (not that I've made this mistake already...:innocent:).
Jackie - I'm glad we got it on video :). I might try and send it into a clip show. My mates have always been reluctant to video me surfing because most of their half-decent cameras aren't waterproof. I won't be surfing now until snowboarding season is over so I'll try and get some videos in the summer :).
Peace - I definately gave my head a good whack. Though I don't remember that part of the fall...I remember turning, then thinking 'Oh, s***', then being on the floor.
Allie - Thanks :). I do love my t-board but the injury count on them is so high for me and my friends, I'm going to have to put it away until summer :(. And you're welcome to come and have a go on it if you want ;). I promise you can use a smaller hill xD.

That video - yours - the sore one - made me make that noise of emphatic pain. Like, "nyauaerghh" kinda noise. >.<
Oof.
It does look very lovely and smooth...that's why I'd like to try snow boarding or skiing...and the softer falls...:L I've skateboarded before and that ended well...:D not.
We wanna see more boarding videos!! It's a cool change from horses, actually :)

Ouch! That looked like it hurt. You looked pretty good until you got to the falling part lol. Definetly wearing my helmet lol.

Kitty - The 'ouch' from my friend at the end of that gets me xD.
I'm going to Tamworth snowdome in a month or so - if you book them now, train tickets are around £20 return! :). I'm also coming up to Liverpool in a few weeks ;). Seriously, Tamworth snowdome is awesomesauce and lessons are about £30.
Unfortunately, the only boarding videos I have left are from the summer when I first got the board. As a result, they're fairly boring :p.
Fjords - Things always look good until the falling part ;). I just tend to get the falling parts on camera xD.

I was wondering where you went snowboarding. You have to go pretty far north before there's mountains and snow, right?
Also, I was wondering. Do you speak or understand Welsh? Do you hear it spoken occasionally? Probably not in the city, I would guess.
And finally, are there checkpoints between England and Wales, or is it like we have with different states where you just drive through? Since Wales is a different country, I was wondering about that.
Cool country. I'd like to visit someday.

I was wondering where you went snowboarding. You have to go pretty far north before there's mountains and snow, right?Actually, there's no natural slopes in the whole UK :(. We have Dendex (which is pure evil and ruins boards) and indoor slopes, but it's the wrong climate. I usually fly down to the Alps for a week or longer to snowboard :). It's about a 2 hour flight I believe.
Do you speak or understand Welsh? Do you hear it spoken occasionally? Probably not in the city, I would guess.I both speak and understand small amounts of Welsh :). Not enough to hold a huge conversation, but a enough for a 15 minute chat. I have to admit, outside of my Welsh lessons, I never hear Welsh spoken. It's a dying language and no one really bothers with it anymore. We still have our road signs in both Welsh and English though :).
are there checkpoints between England and Wales, or is it like we have with different states where you just drive through? Since Wales is a different country, I was wondering about that. There aren't any checkpoints between the countries in the UK :). If you come to Wales via the Severn Bridge, you have to pay a £5.60 toll, but there are no passport checks etc. If you go any other way, you can drive straight through. Wales isn't normally considered a different country these days - it's just a little add-on to England. Though if you say that to a valleys person they'll get very angry and deny it profusely ;). Most Welsh don't really like the English. Most Scots don't like the English. Most Irish don't like the English. And the English don't like anyone xD.
If you visit in the next three years, let me know :D. Beyond that, I'm either going to be in Canada or Liverpool.

Thanks for the mini-education on Wales, Pinky. You live a very interesting life, that's for sure!
My nephews both live in Vancouver. I'll bet you would love that city if you move to Canada. It's really progressive, and you would have abundant snowboarding opportunities nearby. I've visited many times and thoroughly enjoy Vancouver.

I wouldn't really describe my life as interesting ;). Though last time I did the downhill mountain bike track up the scenic drive, I did look around and think how much I'd miss that particular part of Wales. Wales doesn't offer anything to attract youngsters unless they want to live in the heart of Cardiff, people are leaving quite quickly.
How close is Whistler to Vancouver? I'm going to get my CASI (Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors) level 1, 2 and 3 while I'm out there on my gap year and I'm planning on teaching out there for a few months too :). My dad visited Canada a few years ago and said that it was the most beautiful place he'd even been to - it really sounds like a great place, though I'd imagine it might be a bit cold for surfing most of the time ;).

Pinky they do surf here, but only during the crappiest stormiest weather, in full wetsuits. :)
Pinky
10-29-2009, 07:08 AM
Well that's awesome :). How far north from you would I be WB? I'm currently planning on going to Canada, Florida and New Zealand, though the NZ bit is subject to change if I get a job in Canada.
I usually only surf in a full wetsuit - we're lucky if the water is 10*C in the middle of summer!
Edit: I just had a look on the Google Maps link :). Ta. So I'd be a... 2 hour flight from you? Hmm. Can you recommend any good US/Canada based airlines for me? At the moment, I'll have to go UK--->Canada--->UK--->Florida--->UK--->New Zealand--->UK. Surprisingly, it's actually cheaper to do this than UK-->Canada-->Florida-->New Zealand-->UK.

If you zoom out a couple clicks on that google map, and follow Interstate 5 south, I'm near Olympia.
We're about 3 hours south of the Canadian Border... at freeway speeds :)

Travelocity will bring up virtually everything available. I've had good luck flying American Airlines and Northwest. However, I guess you'd have to make sure that your Northwest pilots remembered to land when they got to your destination. :)
When does a gap year occur? Between secondary school/high school (I think maybe you call that college) and university? Does everyone take a gap year?
Pinky
10-29-2009, 08:05 AM
I did look at American Airlines but couldn't find anything flying from Vancouver, I probably didn't look hard enough :). If I flew Northwest, I'd probably have a map to make sure we were going the right way and the pilots weren't 'arguing' in the cockpit xD.
Most people don't take gap years, but for the ones that do, it is often between the end of sixth form (you'll be between 17-18 years old in the final year) or at the end of your university course :D. They aren't very common because of the costs involved and parents not wanting their children in other countries, but I'm paying for it myself and my parents don't really care :p.
WB - Would you mind me paying you a visit? :innocent:.
