I love reading about alternative health care becoming more mainstream so I loved this article in this weeks TheHorse.com.

I know of two vets that are charaprators (spl) and was told it works wonders.
Was at a clinic and saw a number of demo's on a horse and you could actually see the results by this practice.
All kinds of neat stuff out there.

Well darn it! I didn't know you tried acupuncture - what for? I have never had the opportunity but I hope to get there with either my sciatic pain or my jaw clenching/teeth grinding... but insurance isn't cooperating. :(

Two years ago I had one of my horses acupunctured for a low grade kidney infection. It worked and he's been fine ever since.
I have a friend whose Arab mare has horrible joint pain. She has had that horse to UT Knoxville for x-rays and various therapies (including HA injections) over the last three years.
Nothing helped for more than a couple days. The mare got progressively worse.
The owner finally found someone that does acupuncture and for the first time in a long time, the mare not only walked pretty much free of pain, but actually went into the pasture to join the herd.
There's a whole book of events regarding this horse and that is not to say this horse may still have to be put down this winter.
Point-being the acpuncture was the only thing that relieved her knee and hock pain to the point where she felt like being a horse again, and felt safe to be with the herd instead of standing in a corner up by the barn.

Hopefully, the use of acupuncture and other alternative healing methods will become more common. The main thing is to make sure with any alternative therapy, that you choose someone who has the proper training.

hahah, WB!! Too funny. Don't hippys have pipes not needles most of the time? lol :)
This is funny seeing this thread because just yesterday my Mom and I were talking on the phone about Acupuncture. I wanted to see if it would help her with pain so I started calling around to see who does it in our town and what the session cost is. Most prices ranged from $75-$55 for an hour long session (human).
I think I am going to get her a session after this week. She said she could start it up next year but I think I want her pricked, poked and prodded soon!! :) Love ya Mom!! Heeeheee Hope it helps, if not at least you showed some restraint and didn't punch the poor guy for poking you! She needs practice in self restraint too...So, this might help in two ways :)

My friend's horse is 34 years old. He has long been retired but last winter started to go downhill...could barely walk...he's doing great thanks to accupuncture.
