I saw a Weaver leather/synthetic saddle yesterday, it didn't look all that bad for a synthetic saddle and it did have leather on it (basketweave pattern).....it was similar to this one.

Anyone know about these saddles?

No, and excuse me if I offend anyone. ICK That is just my horsey opinion...

Are they just made poorly or just real uncomfortable? Of course I would love an all-leather saddle, but I need to keep my costs down right now.

I just dont like the looks.

I hear ya about costs. You can find a Cordura saddle, they have leather on them, and are quality saddles in a Big Horn, but still need to not go for the lower priced ones.

Im a Big Horn fan, have been for many many yrs. IF the right product is bought.

Some of that other cordura stuff is(I have one to prove it)cheaply made.

Well, maybe I should just wait.....save up money over winter....and try and get something like my old saddle that I used to have.....like this one below...... I sort of tend to agree with ya Vick! lol.

I owned #105 in this saddle. You will see it a ways down.
Not a bad price for some of those, but beware, you go lower in price, unless it is on sale or ebay, you may be finding one of the not so quality saddles. The ones that have the felt on the horn? A no no in my book.
I own a southwestern pattern one now. Im sure you've seen it. WB owns one, I think the Arab one.

Aww, now that IS a pretty saddle. I love leather, had an awesome one, just hate toting the weight around any more. Those things are heavy man..lol

I bet after owning a softee Circle Y I'd be disappointed in a cheaper-made saddle anyway..... I have heard very good things about Big Horn saddles tho. Perhaps I can find myself an older used Circle Y.....hmmmm......

Nice saddles, but not cheap tho, guess I wouldn't want to pay $600 for a synthetic saddle...in that case I'd rather look for a used all-leather name-brand saddle..... Hmmmm.......

This was the saddle I really liked. Bummer.....it sold....

I don't think the saddle design you linked in the OP is unattractive at all, I guess it's a taste thing. :). I think the leather trim makes it a little dressy actually, though I'm not familiar with them in person at all.

I will second that Big Horn is a good brand in synthetics, we're real happy with ours.

Yup WB, it is a taste thing.
Why I said, my opinion.

Speaking of taste, when I come see you, are you going to wear a bra, or are you going bareback....LOL

You guys crack me up.....lmao!

Probably bareback, but I'll do my best to make it not real obvious either way. :D I will have the advantage of being in the middle of December big sweater season, after all. :D

I don't thing the Weaver saddle looked bad. I'm not much a fan of synthetics myself, but I can understand the cost issue!

My friend just ordered the weaver synthetic saddle with the ostritch trim on it from jeffers. She loves it, and from what I can tell it's very well made, looks and feels just like my old Wintec western. And I've never had a bad piece of tack made by weaver.

That is good to know AUEquine. I am really picky about saddles, but when I looked at that Weaver saddle it seemed sort of nice! And I do like the idea of a very lightweight saddle too. I especially liked the leather basketweave touches on it.

Renee, I think that saddle would be too big for Koko. I have a real nice Fabtron leather/synthetic saddle, and it's super comfortable and well built. But it has full QH bars and is too wide for Fleet. And he's a tank!

Aha.....I did wonder about that too. Semi-QH aren't quite as wide, right?

I didn't even know Weaver made saddles. Haha.

Semi and Regular QH bars run the same size. Full QH bars are wider.

Thanks Vicklynn.......I thought so, but wasn't quite sure.

I have a horse that was ridden in the weaver synthetic before I got her. I bought her as a 3 yr old, and that was the only thing that she had been ridden in. Now, over a year later, we are still working on her back, it took us over 6 months just to get her top line to fill in before even getting on her once we brought her home. The saddle may be fine for some horses, but the saddle combined with poor riding made this horse look horrible. I could tell that this saddle never fit her when I saw them throw it on her back, so there may be completely different results with a different horse.

The looks of it aren't really my style. I'm not a big fan of Wintecs either, with the exception of their lamicel, although I don't really like the skirt on their lamicell pleasure saddle. I have had good luck with Abetta.

Gosh, that is too bad it messed up the horse's back....I guess maybe it all just depends on the saddle and the horse's build.

I know I don't want to try an Abetta.....a friend of mine bought one brand new and he had a ton of trouble with it..... Sooooo......maybe I will just keep my eye out for a good used leather saddle.....

I've gotten 2 Big Horn corduras from Ebay and I love them. If you take some time, you'll find what you want. 14 and 15 inch can be tougher to come by, but 16 inches and up are often listed.
The most I paid was $325- that included shipping, saddle, 2 leather headstalls (both with reins)2 blankets and a D ring snaffle.

Happy Hunting :cowboy:

I saw a Reinsman leather/cordura saddle in a magazine.....I love Reinsman saddles, so this would be one I would maybe consider if I go the cordura route for a saddle....

The weaver looks to be a typical mediocre quality synthetic. I'd wait until you can buy leather myself, I don't like synthetics.
