Just thought id give you all a little update. Remember how scarlett flipped with me? Well its been a little over 2 weeks since the accident. I got my last surgery the friday before last. They had to cut the cast off my hand because of swelling and it was locking up and everything was trying to fuse together. So now i get to literally push the"junk" in the swelling back up into my arm manually, and i have to bend that hand( keep in mind i got 6 pins in it right now....NOT fun. I got to physical therapy twice a week. Come to find out My liver, kidney, and right lung was bruised. Remember how i was sick on every pain med they put me on? Well come to find out my live is not processing right and is not filtering out the bile correctly and depositing it which is making my skin itch and is trying to clot. In return i got a severe kidney infection from it. They now have me on a blood thinner and a very low dose of an antibiotic( 1/4 pill 2x a day, normal person takes 2 pills a day). I also cant take any other meds and have to watch what i eat and drink. I go back for another ultrasound wensday to see where we are at. thursday i have physical therapy, and friday i go back to my plastic surgeon to see where we are at with my hand, and if another surgery is in line or whether they will take the stitches out.
You all know i listed Scarlett for sale. I decided that the first reasonable offer would take her home. Well i had a family.( 30 yr old guy and his fiance, and the guys dad) came out and looked at her. It seems PERFECT for her. they have 158 acres, just two mini's right now, the dad used to breed quarter horses and was real big into them, the fiance is from japan but has been riding for 9 years. They know the situation, met the horse, was so gentle with her, and the thing that made me most happy.. she liked them. They all three rode her in the indoor and she was great. with 158 acres, its just going to be like one long trail ride everytime she goes out riding which is perfect for her. They want her more so as a companion horse to play with and spoil being groomed and doing groundwork with, they may breed her, and ride her occasionally. Well I had her listed for 1600, they offered me 1400, and its a done deal. they paid 700 down on her and will pay the other half upon pickup/ delivery which i thought was fair. They were taking her picture and the picture was being sent all the way to japan to her family. They are going on vacation and wont be back until after the 13th so she with me for a little longer which is fine. Im happy with her home, they absolutely loved her.
I did do something i shouldnt have done yet, i rode Dreamer today. He was PERFECT. It felt soo good just to get on and ride for a bit again. oh did i mention i found out he knows how to neck rein haha found that out riding one handed? i didnt even teach him that yet, he picked it up on his own!!!

Now be careful doing things you shouldn't. You're young and should heal fast... don't ~ push it! ~

What you're going through sounds so painful, you definitely must be one tough person. :) I hope something like that never happens again, just the thought of it is scary.
Congrats on selling Scarlett, it always feels like such a success when you sell a horse to a absolutely perfect home. You will definitely have to get soem farewell pictures so we can see her pretty face before she leaves.
Dreamer sounds like a dream! No pun intended. :D That bond you two have is just amazing, he sounds like such a smart guy!

Its up in the air right now. I really really really dont know if i can make myself get rid of him. selfish i know. But at the same time i have to look out for his best intrest which that might be. He has to be able to eat, i refuse to wait to the point he runs out of hay. I am really torn on what to do. That horse is my world, my everything, my child, my bestfriend, and my life. Not to mention he gets depressed and refuses to eat when i go out of town and someone else goes out there. Literally will not eat, not even hardly graze. Im scared to think of what might happen to him if i do sell him.

PD,
I hadn't heard about the accident!......what happened? Why might you need to sell Dreamer?
Sure hate that you were injured and going through so much. Take care of yourself! As much as I hate to say it, you should lay off the riding......at least till the pins are removed from your arm or you chance injuries that may never get back to normal. It won't be long till your back in the saddle so try to be patient. Best of luck and don't skimp on the therapy even though you may hate it.

:( It kills me, but i think i might have to sell him. I have to think of what is in his best interest, he is like my child. I knew getting selling scarlett asap would help the situation greatly, so i took the prime oppertunity ASAP. This accident was so unexpected.
Dreamers board: $60
Feed: $15
vet bill for Dreamers knee: $108
Going rate for hay around here is $5.00 a bale with delivery which ill have to have for obvious reasons , ill need probably 120 bales to get me to first cutting, if you dont buy enough now, you cant find it later here.Thats $600
Gas to barn everyday @ 3.57 gal in car= 5. 71 a day= 177 a month if it stays that low here.
Thats $960 i would have to come up with for Dreamer for this month alone( mainly because i have to buy hay). Thats not including the board an feed id have to come up with until they release me back to work and not even on my personal bills.
A little good news is i do have a temp. insurance now, my old expired on the 31st of august because im not in school this semester( probably a good thing now), but thats
$400 a month, i have to have it for atleast two months to get them to help on all my hospital bills.
Truck payment is $317
insurance $75
cell phone 30
Gas elsewhere which right now i have completely cut out. I go to barn and doctor only.
Not to mention what i already have to start paying on hospital bills.
I do have 203 on my credit card that i had used for eminence I just paid 50 on it.
Thats 975 for this month alone
grand total of 1935, thats not including how much my hospital payments will be. I did sell scarlett for 1400.( 700 down the other 700 ill get on the 14th)im giving my dad the 800 he paid for her so that gave me 600. i currently have only 192 to my name because i have already paid nearly 800 in hospital bill and 2 days before accident paid 120 for both horses board, and 110 for shoer. so i have a grand total of 792. My parents are going to pay the 400 for my health insurance this month, and 1/2 my truck payment because my dad uses it too.
1935-= 1376 i have left to pay that i know of.
Out of the 792 i have
158 HAS to go to the truck which is due on the 10th
108 has to go to the vet as its due on the 12th.
177(approx)will go to gas just to get to and from the barn
60 will go to dreamers board due on 22
15 will go to grain tomorrow because im almost out
30 to cell
75 to insurance
which leaves me with 168 to go towards hospital bill payments that will also be comming due or to hay for dreamer.
i Literally have 11 bales of hay left, 9 of which are fescue and he refuses to eat it.
Thats why im pretty sure im going to have to sell him, like now :( The thing i am MOST worried about out of everything is having hay for him. i know i could find a way to get his board and feed, even 30 when the shoer comes out in nov. I just dont want to not be able to feed him in the dead of winter because i ran out of hay, that scares me the most.
I have literally poured my heart and soul into this horse, hes going to be 3 soon, iv had him since he was 5 months old and literally taught him everything he knows( you guys know that already). Hes my child, gets depressed when i go on vacation and refuses to eat, part of my daily life, my love, my other half, my best friend, and my childhood dream come true( how he got his name), but i have a feeling that is all down the drain and im literally bawling as i write this cause its so hard for me to type. I simply cant imagine my life without him, he is part of who i am, he is like a the little ridges on my fingerprint in everything i do, and the footprints i leave behind when i walk. Im literally breathless.empty. shocked how one thing could cause this. But because i love him, and i dont want to see him starve, i think i know what i have to do but someone might as well just shoot me now, cause i dont know how im going to function. He is not just a horse to me, he is my life, my dream, my child like your daughter or son, my fingerprint, my child, my best friend, and most of all who i am. I got to walk away from this computer and take a walk, clear my head, calm myself down, and think to myself for a bit, ill be back in a bit.

Can we as a forum family help out?? There are enough of us here, that if we each bought a bail or 2 of hay...$5 per bale, then she should have enough to get through the winter.
I would really hate to see you have to sell Dreamer because of the accident. Especially when things will get back to normal once you are on your feet.
Forum family...CAN WE ALL HELP if Patriots allows us to???

I can contribute $25. I'd like to offer more, but I'm self-employed now and don't earn very much money. But it really is the least we can do. Patriots and quest fairly moved mountains to help find homes for all of Rockyridge's horses. And she is a forum family member, of course.

Hello Everyone,
Please read Country Girl's request/idea above and think about whether you can afford a bale of hay or two to help out our good forum family friend, Patriots. Patriots's accident was just one of those things that we all understand could happen to any of us. If we can help her out with a bit of hay to get through the winter (assuming she will accept), perhaps she will be able to work out a plan for her and Dreamer to get back on their feet financially.
Patriots is a forum family member obviously, but many of you will recall that she (and quest) did so much to organize assistance for Rockyridge last winter (and then many, many people pitched in).
These are tough financial times, so please don't feel any pressure. But if you can, even one or two bales ($5 apiece) would help.

Im in. There is no IF she accepts, she needs to.
What I would like to know is. She has 11 bales, 9 that her horses will not eat. Is there anyone close by that can make a hay exchange with her. I understand about horses not eating certain hays, as mine dont like certain hay. At this time that leaves her with 2 bales. Hay is an asap thing.

This may not be a good idea for you. But $300 something a month is a big truck payment so I'm assuming it's fairly new. That's what our truck payment is and we paid 11000 for the truck. Is there anyway you could try selling the truck and buying a less expensive one? This may not be plausible for you but I'd think it would help
even if you only sold the truck for what you owe on it, it would get rid of a big payment and if you took out another loan for a less expensive truck, you wouldn't be paying as much per month.
As I said, it's just an idea. I've been in some fairly tight situations before and it was an idea i had and used at the time. IF we had problems right now the truck would be the first to go.
I don't mean to sound offensive if it sounds that way!Just trying to help. If I had the extra I'd buy all your hay for you!

I just wanted to thank everyone that has been thinking of me lately. Im working out some nitty gritty stuff with country girl to see how we will go about this. I think my sister is getting me a couple bales to try out from this new guy this weekend but that will only be like 2 or3, but hey, its something! I got one bale left that Dreamer will eat, i have been mixing in a flake with two flakes of the fescue, and he is eating SOME not all but SOME of the fescue, which is better than what he was doing. I think i can make this bale stretch some.
Someone had asked if i could trade my truck in for a cheaper one. Funny that you said that, my dad and i were already looking into it, but its looking like we owe WAY more than what we will get out of it. between trading it in and getting something cheaper, we wont save very much money monthly at all. its an 04 silverado if you were wondering not that it matters. Its more of a hassle and loss then what its worth to trade it in for something cheaper.

Patriots Good luck sounds like you may have something figured out for hay. Is it possible to get a round bale that you could put in the barn with a tarp over and feed him off of it? Most roundbales are cheaper than squares, just an idea.
As far as the truck I was thinking more of trying to sell it for what you owe, then taking out a smaller loan for a cheaper truck???? I know it wouldn't be immediate $ saving for you but maybe it would help? That's what I did before. I got the Amount I owed the bank and sold it for that, that way the payment was gone and took out a smaller loan for a less expensive truck, you can do it that way or just advertise for "taking over payments or paying off" . That way I wasn't pay as much a month. You do lose money that way as you're only getting out of the vehicle what you owe, not what you've paid already but the payments aren't as much per month with a small loan.
If i was closer I'd help all I could but I'm quite far away and money is tight for us right now, this economy thing sucks///

I'm in for a bale or two. I know that's pretty lame, one bale of hay, $5.00.:( But I'm not that far away from being broke myself and I can't afford much more. But I do love good causes, which is why I buy a toy to drop in the Toys for Tots box every Christmas and also add to the care package boxes they have out that time of year for the soldiers overseas. Then there's the homeless shelter, around the holidays my family kicks in $10.00 each (so $40 total) and donates it.
So count me in for $5.00. I know it won't help much, but still.

I'm spending my life savings on the horses so I can't contribute monetarily, but I can offer a few suggestions
Dreamers board: $60 Talk to the barn owners and see if they will take a deferment on payment, or even let you work off some board. I know you're laid up, but maybe you can handle throwing grain to horses?
Going rate for hay around here is $5.00 a bale with delivery which ill have to have for obvious reasons , ill need probably 120 bales to get me to first cutting, if you dont buy enough now, you cant find it later here.Thats $600 This is always something I really don't care for, but if you need to, do it! Get a complete feed. You won't have to feed hay then. You can save money on that. Maybe suppliment with alfalfa cubes and spred them around the pasture of dry lot to give him something to do. Or you can use it to REDUCE the amount of hay you need to feed. Cut it in half. That would be $300 instead. Talk to Harley's Owner. She hasn't fed hay in years. At least do it til you get back on your feet again finacially.
Truck payment is $317 Someone already suggested this, but sell the truck for what you have left to pay on it and get a truck with smaller payments. I know they are convenient but can you get a car instead? That would even save on gas.
cell phone 30 Is there a cheaper plan? Maybe cut texting out and get less min.
Another thing that I mentioned on the other thread was post on craigslist that you need someone to deliver hay. People will offer for a lot less than that! Mine gets delivered for free generally since the guy works in town right by where I keep the ponies.

PD contact the hospital and tell them the situation minus the horse ... many times they will write off large amounts of the bills to "charity" meaning you won't have to pay ... also contact the state and see if you can get any assistance there.. the trustee's office will help with meds and food and utilities... check with local churches some of them may have a needy person's fund no cash but meds and food help for YOU
some will even hand you a gas card for help with getting to and from doctor

i Literally have 11 bales of hay left, 9 of which are fescue and he refuses to eat it.
Thats why im pretty sure im going to have to sell him, like now The thing i am MOST worried about out of everything is having hay for him. i know i could find a way to get his board and feed, even 30 when the shoer comes out in nov. I just dont want to not be able to feed him in the dead of winter because i ran out of hay, that scares me the most.
The 9 bales of Fescue - I suggest you try posting this on craigslist if he really won't eat it. Then you can have someone come out and pick it up (hopefully for the same price you bought it for!) and use the money for hay he'll make better use of. At least the ad would be free! Alternatively, most horses WILL eventually clean up all the stuff they don't particularly like if you just plain don't feed them as much the next time until they do. After 2 days or so of that, they generally just give up and eat it.
The shoer - delay the appointment a few weeks or more - we are moving into Winter now, so the hooves shouldn't be growing nearly as fast as they would during the warmer months.
Board - are these people that you have been around for a long time and gotten along with? If my boarder were to approach me with a situation like yours, I would definitely take minimal payments or none for a few months until they got back on their feet. It can't hurt just to do a sit-down with them and humbly explain how far over-stretched you are.
Hospital - they will wait for their payments for a fair amount of time if you are communicating with them consistently and maybe sending in very small partial payments. It is probably unlikely that they would submit you to any collections section for at least 3 months, most likely not for a very long time if you called at every bill and re-explained the situation and what steps you are taking and sent in a modest payment (even $10). Also, definitely do a meeting with the person at the hospital in charge of low-income arrangements for assistance.
Best of luck to you - don't give up!!

For all who was wondering where i live, on horse.com its says Edwardsville illinois. I actually live in Glen carbon( they are basically one town) one of those you say glen carbon they say huh? you say edwardsville they say " i know where that is". im sure you all know of towns like that. its 30 minutes outside of saint louis on the IL side of the mississippi river. Now I live in glen carbon. Dreamer stays in Ofallon illlinois, which is 20-30 minutes from my house. i think like 19 miles there and 19 miles back to be exact. As for getting cheaper board... i already have the cheapest around its only $60 per month which includes shavings. They are probably already losing money on keeping Dreamer there. There is only one other horse out there now besides mine.
Mercury mentioned throwing grain, i already do that sometimes which is why my board is cheaper, along with matenience, and house sitting while they are away.
Putting him on a complete feed makes me feel uncomfortable. Horses are grazing animals they graze 70 percent of the time, and its what he is used to, id rather not change his feed as this is what he has been on his whole life.
I do think you have a very good idea on selling the fescue bales on craigslist. he wont eat it. i tried tough love and he literally dropped weight refusing to eat it. Its really nice fescue he just doesnt like fescue. Ill keep that in mind.
Everyone keeps saying sell the truck its a big payment..... even if i sell the truck I will still be making payments on it because i owe way more than what its worth, no one is going to take over payments on a vehicle like that. Even if i did find someone and still had to pay some on it, by the time i took out a loan to get another one cheaper, and then figured in how much i was still paying on the old, it would come close to evening itself out, if not being more expensive in the long run.
Mandi- I asked the BO about putting in a round bale and thats a no go, i also dont have anywhere to store a round bale ( my hay is stored in extra stalls right now and you couldnt fit a round bale through the enterance of the stall.
42 mentioned delaying the shoer. That is something i absolutely cant do. His front left hoof is deformed( not BAD, its normal and right for his conformation) and the side always busts off. He is currently on a 8 week schedual when really he should be on a 6 so that is already delayed.
I do plan on talking to the hospitals about the bills as they come in.
Im almost wondering if selling Dreamer isnt what is best. Countrygirl and i have been PMing back and forth trying to decide on what to do. i have given her my hay guys info But id like to wait to contact him until we decide on how we are doing this. Shes been wonderful support through this whole deal. I have given her my phone number and we plan to talk on the phone a bit.
I want to thank everyone for their wishful thoughts, suggestions, and just simply being there for me. It means a lot, more than you know. it really does.
How does everyone feel most comfortable about doing this? I want everyone to feel comfortable. I dont know if my hay guy will be down for this part of him keeping track, he is a busy farmer in mid harvest right now but Do we feel most comfortable calling the hay guy, sending him the money for x amount of bales or doing it via paypal, and i take a pic of the hay when delivered and a reciept from the hay purchase? I want everyone to feel 110% comfortable and confident that this is really where their money is going. so lets vote on that.

Im not sure how you cant wait with next to no hay. You need to make that choice quickly.
As far as the truck, no way. Thats a small truck payment, and even IF you could sell it, which isnt likely, you will NOT be able to buy another. You are not working, and no one is gonna sell to you. So, I vote, keep the truck.
Get the fescue on the market ASAP. Do what your heart tells you to do with Dreamer. Even if you decide to sell, that wont go quickly. Get the hay ASAP.

*Hugs*
I honestly don't have anything helpful to say or do apart from I really hope this all works out for you in the end.
I would send money but as minor I can't. I've got a bit of an idea for something but I need to work out logistics right now.
Best of luck *another hug*.
Wow, I must have missed this thread completely. So sorry to hear what you are going through. I'm glad Scarlett sold quickly for you. And here is a big http://bestsmileys.com/hugging/5.gif

good grief.....the poor woman needs some money to buy hay and she needs the money NOW....either you want to send her some money or you don't...it's not like we know nothing about patriots and i think it's a little rude to be questioning her financial responsibilities...she's not applyin' for a loan...just post the address and let those who want to send some help do it

Patriots, whatever you want to do, we'll try to facilitate. I think no matter what you could use some help with hay. Even if you did sell him, it wouldn't be tomorrow, and I think many here would like to help you avoid having to do that at all if we can.
Magayle - Maybe I missed something, but who is questioning her financial responsibilities? Granted, I just scanned through most of the responses, but it seems like suggestions to try to help have been made, nothing else.

Dreamer - Like everyone else said, RIGHT NOW you need HAY. There is no time to wait and see what happens. Even if you do decide you need to sell him, he isn't going to be sold before you need hay. I'm sure I speak with a lot of people here when I say that we want to help you AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Please have Country or you post a paypal addy so we can start donating. Then you can do whatever you think is best with the hay picture, etc.

I'm in for something. Just post the best way to send it, PayPal or check. I know PayPal is faster but they might take fees out but by the time checks got there and cashed it could take weeks [Our mail service is pathetic and Monday is a holiday].
Will the hospital take small payments? When our nephew was born his parents were young. There were complications and the hospital bill was way more than they expected. They could only pay back like $10. a month or so and then when they got on their feet they were able to pay more, I think they eventually got him paid off, he's 26 now! The hospital did work with them. I find this all so sad and any of us can be in the same position at any time. I just hope that Dreamer doesn't have to be sold, I think that would be so hard.
Hopefully this little bit will help.

How I wish I could help financially but we are strapped right now!!! I'll be praying for you and just wanted to say hang in there. And I'm very proud of our little family for rallying. The horse community are wonderful people in general but I think this bunch is just fantastic. You are certainly wonderful as well Patriotdreamz. You really rallied for someone when they needed you and now it's your turn to be helped. Hopefully things look up for you soon!!

How does everyone feel most comfortable about doing this?
I don't mind sending the money to either you or Country Girl, but I'd really like to use PayPal if possible.
I definitely wouldn't ask your hay guy to keep track of a bunch of little donations. If it is a feed mill with an account like we did for RR it would probably be OK, but not an individual who just keeps track of everything himself.

I have to agree. I think it would be better to send money by Paypal to one account. That way, you can really keep track of how much you have received and after you buy your hay, you can use the rest for board or whatever you see fit!

I am so happy you found her a loving home
I am sorry about your accident. I am afraid I was out of the loop so I apologize for not saying anything sooner...
It takes time to heal. When I broke my pelvis early this year.. it was a nightmare. (Another reason I went "poof" for so long) But it will take time.

Patriots as far as the hospital thing goes, I had to go to the er b/c of an ulcer on my eye, ( bills were expensive!) and they ( hospital here )work through a charitable org that decides by your income etc and sometimes they'll pay all the bills. Just an idea, i know everyone has already given you a bunch of good ideas. Just trying to help. If I was closer I'd have my daddy do Dreamer for free! He's a farrier, but that's a bit of travel time...
If someone can get an address I'd like to send a couple bucks, crunching numbers here and like everyone else we're broke too, but I'd still like to help.
