A friend just sent me this test and I am almost smack in the center - only one point to the left and one point down! Not being very "politically minded" I'm not sure how accurate this test really is... what do you think die hards - WB, HF, JB???

I was one point to the right and one point up. I thought I would come out way on the right of everything. I'm not a right wing loon like I thought I was:).

maybe we need a strong 3rd party who kinda encompasses all of that ;)

Well, here's mine:
http://www.politicalcompass.org/facebook/pcgraphpng.php?ec=6.62&soc=0.41
I admit, this is after I re-evaluated some of my answers because it put me kindof in the middle too.
I think if you tend to only go so far as "agree" or "disagree", you'll stay in the middle, and that's the way I tend to answer. The first time through I didn't answer anything "strongly". I mean, I'm not the type to SHOUT.
On parents being able to spank kids, I agree... if I "strongly" agree does that mean they should hit them harder? That there are no limits to what's acceptable?
On some of the corporate stuff, I think it was intentionally trying to get a leftist result and I could see that and it biased my answers.
And on things like the Patriot Act question, IMHO, there are many who think we've gone too far in the name of the WOT, primarily because they don't like Bush. And I think that bias is written into a lot of the questions about authority. I mean... who doesn't think that some acceptance of authority is necessary in society? Society, our jobs, our families, all have rules. That's not wrong. A child needs to learn to accept authority as part of maturity. But I felt like I was some kind of fascist if I answered that way.
I was just a little put off by some of the questions... :)

I took it twice myself and found I got a vastly different result too. As far as authority, look at nature, heck look at horses. There is a chain of command in everything within the animal kingdom. Without authority and submission, you have anarchy. Without our laws and people to enforce the laws we are in trouble. That seems to be where we are headed. Take a close look at our schools today. Children who have not been taught to respects elders, authority or respect anything for that matter. Our teachers should be paid much better than they are for the job they have. These kids are the ones that will take the helm when we are gone. And thank goodness I will be.....gone that is.

Hm, I learned something similar in my political science class. Except it was curves and waves versus a grid and a dot.

By the way RM I was J/K about the top left, but left for sure. The differences are what have always made this a great country. We can be on extreme opposite ends of the scale, but still meet somewhere in the middle and get on with business.:)

Oh yes, dear SM, definitely left of center! But more lower left. Almost smack dab on Gandhi!
I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is our differences that make us what we are as a country. I respect everyone's right to their opinion, if I agree or disagree with them, and I don't hate them for it.
It worries me to see so much hatred towards political candidates just because someone disagrees with them, that is a real waste of energy, IMHO.

I agree, it's scary how far some have and will go against those that don't agree with them on either side. I hope we don't continue with the bipartisan trend we've been into the last few years after the elections are over. Once the elections are over, we need to all start working on correcting what's wrong and quit worrying about who is on what side. We're all Americans, and if the ship sinks, it won't be just half of the ship that goes down.

Interesting results! I guess we're all a little closer to the center than I would have guessed. Due to WB's comments I went ahead and retook it and tried to see if I thought wrong on any or felt more "strongly" about any issues than I originally thought. All it did was move me down one closer to libertarian.

The Political Compass
Economic Left/Right: 6.12
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.15
I've got to admit that this surprised me. I knew I was pretty far right economically, but I've always considered myself to be pretty libertarian. Of course, like WB, I felt some of the questions were loaded. There were a lot that I really have no opinion on because it's none of my business......So, I'll stick with calling myself a "Constitutional Libertarian."

Hey Mom, we're neighbors on the graph.
I have to be honest, I much prefer the names on the leftist libertarian side. But I did think some of the questions were vaguely worded.
