I keep marveling at the difference between Willie and Bandit. I've only had Willie a little over a week, but have had Bandit over 2 years.
Well I went away for 2 days for work. Tonight is the first time I could actually go out and do anything with the horses. Bandit? Couldn't get near the little brat. I could have pushed the issue but you know what? He is leaving Saturday and I would rather spend the energy on the horse I am keeping.
Willie was a little jumpy getting a lead on him, but it was more of a excitement than avoiding. He lead beautifully and we got to the arena. Didn't seem to take a step back at all in where we left off. In fact by the time I was ready to leave him I had tossed a rope over his back a bit and pet all over his face - yeah, you know the face he hasn't wanted me to touch much - right up front over the blaze. And *gasp* I got to touch ears!
So then I turned him loose. Later when I went out to catch him, he didn't want to get caught. Only took me about 5 minutes to convince him that yes, being caught was the way to go (he's lazy and he would rather be caught than work! LOL) and the very first place I was able to touch him was right on front of his face. So he seems to be getting over the head shy issue very rapidly.
Then leading back to the barn he spooked (kitty dashed between his feet and it was getting dark) but he jumped and side stepped and what not, but did not invade my space at all. Settled right down and went right back to the proper spot for him to lead from. We'll be hitting the trails in no time! :p
I'm loving this pony!
