Dang Dallas gave me a heart attack when I pulled up the other day. I was driving the diesel and usually when I pull in they all come over to the fence. But not Dallas, he just laid there and didn't even pick up his head!! I kept calling him but he didn't move!

Then as I backed the truck up to unload some hay, he decided he would get up and come see me. Darn horse!!! :deadhorse::poo:

Our Cyn's a heavy sleeper... I don't even worry any more unless the carrion birds start circling. ;) They sleep hard every afternoon if the weather's nice.

It was particularly spooky when we approached this time... 'cuz she had the teeth thing goin' on...

We have lots of vulchers out here and they are always circling close by, so I never know.

Dallas is usually my spunky one and when he doesn't get up or at least twitch, I get REALLY nervous!

I had that same scare once this summer. She didn't move until I went over and pushed her while 7 other horses looked on. That's definitely not a good feeling.

Does she make teeth-grinding noises??? Do the eye balls roll back and forth??

I can't even tell you how many times I've ran out to the pasture in my jammies and flip flops after looking out my window and seeing a "dead horse." I swear, they do it just to try to give us heart attacks.

They love to scare us!!! My horse Dice sleeps very heavily...one day he was asleep in his stall, I came into the barn, did some things and he never woke up.
The funniest part was that he would snore, then fart, snore, then fart. I was hysterical but nobody was around to witness the whole episode. He never did wake up, even with me laughing.:hysterical:

I remember Dolly doing that too me. When you see you horse lay flat out all the time no big deal. But when you never see them lay flat out. Well it is pretty scary.

Gypsy's done that to me a time or two, and at her age, it really scares me when she does it now.

Darn horses. Buck did the same thing to me back in the summer. He was laid out and I couldn't do enough yelling to wake him up. It wasn't until I went to the pasture gate and the chain hit the metal gate that he finally came to. I was trying to think of how in the world was I going to call and tell Diane that Buck was gone. What a goober.

LOL!! Our horses "die" daily...When we were first moved into our house we had quite the "experience" I woke up to my neighbor knocking on the door frantically. When I opened it he greets me with "What can I do to help!!??" I'm like....ummmm Roger...what would you like to help with??? Uhhhh??? He proceeds to tell me that he heard over the scanner that the sheriffs were dispatched to our place due to the "Horses appearing to have been shot"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After Roger saw the horses all standing grazing at this point he was thanked and sent on his way. I then called the sheriffs department to find out what the heck was going on! The woman I was forwarded to just started giggling when she figured out who I was. I guess a "passer by" saw all of the horses stretched out in the front pasture soaking up the morning rays and called it in. The woman I was talking to had taken the "complaint" and told the woman that the horses were probably just laying down. Apparently the woman became totally flustered and says "I know for a fact that horses DO NOT lie down. These animals have been shot!!" I was actually still on the phone with the dispatcher when the sheriff drove by and she put me on hold and comes back to tell me. "Officer so and so says the horses look AOK!! LOL!!! They were actually apologising to me for having to send someone out. :p The greatest part was at this point my father had turned on his scanner after we had called him and caught this message go over the air...The dispatcher says something along the lines of "Residence on rt 62 checks out fine and the owner would like to inform everyone that horse do in fact lie down!" What a way to start a morning!!!

Sad thing is I saw one of the Animal Cops shows (it wasn't Houston) where one of the officers said the same thing (horses never lay down)... her sole basis for entering the property was that the horses were laying down. The place was not the best and the horses could have used a little pampering, but the horse knowledge used as the basis for potentially seizing the horses was alarmingly thin and should give all of us pause.

Has Dallas finally accepted Joe? Nice pictures, I HATE when they do that.

When I was watching my riding instructor's horses I saw Peanut (her miniature horse) laying in the hay out in the pasture. I remember my 8 year old sister freaking out and yelled out the door, "Peanut are you dead?" He popped his little head up and whinnied...took that as a no. ;)

That made me remember that same thing happened to me. A lady stopped by our place all excited because Buck was out cold in the pasture and she thought he was dead. I had to wake him up just to prove to her he was o.k. It's good to know that there are people out there that care though.

I am not sure. They seem to get along now, but there is still a fence between them. I can tie them next to eachother on the trailer with no problems, but to turn them loose together, I dodn't know.

Although Dallas is great on the trails, he still tries to bite any horse that is beside him. He doesn't care if a horse is in front of him or behind him, but if they are next to him he reaches over and tries to bite. Luckily I know this and can stop him but it sure pisses me off.
