Well Samson has been going real well recently, sadly due to the amount of rain riding has been difficult, but I've been out to see him loads, helping around the yard (he lives on a mare free yard, all guys! four other geldings!) and I'm a sucker for geldings, they're gorgeous! I'll be sure to post pictures of them sometime ^_^

With the rain I've been helping the BO get the ponies out of the fields and into the stables, getting them fed, hayed and watered, and its so nice. I'm helping out of my own good, instead of being forced and manipulated into "helping", which is what was happening at the old barn.
Samson has his own stable, with a big pink water bucket in it (cause he LOVES pink ;)) lots of bedding.. and he enjoys it haha =P He still stays out 24/7, but on bad nights he goes into his stable.

I am doing schools showjumping on saturday the 28th November, for my new school, St Malachys. The jumps are going to be about 2'9, so I'll need to ride him every day this week to get him fit as a fiddle =P Dad's coming to video me so hopefully we can get some good footage of the team!

And he's been working REAL hard on accepting the bit, i've used NO ARTIFICIAL AIDS! So no bungees, no draw reins, no side reins, anything. I've been making him bend, setting two barrels up and seeing how tight i can go in and out of them. He's starting to lower his head in a walk, so its a start!

So some pictures from yesterday =)

you already know how rubbish I think these photos are don't ya? :p
I'm sure my adoring facebook comments gave you that impression alright ;)
Alice, I don't think you actually realise how much I am inspired by you & Samson.
You're the reason I tried eventing (and loved it). When other people knock me down,
you're there picking me up and dusting me off getting me ready to hold my head up high
and keep on walking :)

You are one of the bestest riders I know (: and pony's looking very good round :)
Think how amazing your gonna do next season eventing right!? :D:D

I honestly don't understand how I can be an inspiration, I do some of the stupidest things ever! (i.e. riding in converse cause im lazy!)
But thankyou =)

Samson has his own stable, with a big pink water bucket in it (cause he LOVES pink ;))

Gaaah! He does not love pink! She's pushing him into it.

Would someone please fill in Allie on the "rules" regarding pink and geldings. They are not to be broken!

:p:p:p

Beautiful photos! He's such a magnificent horse.

Excellent job on the vertical flexion (giving his head freely). Two things have really helped me with this in working with Buster. Both come from Clinton Anderson, who is a really famous trainer here in the US if you aren't familiar with him.

1. Lateral flexion leads to vertical flexion. All the bending you are doing is fantastic. It translates directly to Samson being softer vertically. Brilliant idea to add the barrels to the exercise. I've done thousands of those flexing exercises with Buster. Every time I ride him, but not so much at any one time that he ever gets bored with it.

2. The horse learns from the release. When Buster lowers his head, I let up on the pressure instantly. I let him rest for a few steps, then apply again and release when he gives. Eventually, we got to where Buster holds his head in that position with just the lightest contact on the reins and Buster not pulling on the bit at all.

Great job!
